Couch to 5K - Run 1 done...

I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

That's a good point tits, I may repeat the run on Wednesday instead of moving up to build my confidence. Either way, I will make sure I go out as have fallen off the running bandwagon before by avoiding the next run after a bad day and then never quite getting back in to it.

@moita I found the first run of the week easier than I did today. Hope you have found it ok?

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 04/05/2020 14:19

Hi everyone, @BlahBlahLand I'm pretty slow too. Did my fastest 1k today at 8mins, looking at a 40minute 5k if I could keep that pace which there is no chance of. I think 40 minutes is still slow so I am a running snail.

Still proud of completing w6r1, found it harder than the twenty minutes on week 5 despite having stops. Did try to go faster though spent the 5 minute warm up faffing with my music and armband which wouldn't have helped. Still covered 4.1k do distance has improved.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 04/05/2020 14:21

w4r2 completed. It was ok but I really felt the step up to 5 min blocks of running with shorter recovery breaks. That’s how wk4 is on my app, anyway, I know the NHS one differs slightly.

Hope you’re not too sore after your fall, @titsbumfannythelot.

moita · 04/05/2020 16:17

@FallenSkies was much better than I expected actually! Realised how much a good night's sleep impacts on my running

choc27 · 04/05/2020 19:01

@mama4321 well done, it's definitely easier doing the 25min run the second time isn't it! On W6R3 I had to slow down a lot in the middle but w7r1 I managed to stay at my usual pace. So I ran a tiny bit further but not much! W7r2 tomorrow, I haven't even looked at what it is yet!

BekindStayhome · 04/05/2020 19:26

W4R1 done and it felt fine. But, I downloaded strava after reading comments here and can't make sense of the visualisations. I think it might be because I don't run much faster than I walk! which is a bit depressing!

GuyFawkesDay · 04/05/2020 20:00

W3R3 today.....was good. Find the first longer run harder than the second. I feel like I've got more of a groove on by the end

Mummyme87 · 04/05/2020 20:08

I’ve just restarted C25K. I did it in autumn and got up to week 7 run 3 then bailed as it was pitch black. But I was running for 29mins straight!!
Started a couple of weeks back and have gone back to the start. If you don’t use it you definitely lose it! Will be doing W3R1 on Wednesday

CeibaTree · 04/05/2020 20:25

Well done to everyone especially those just starting. It really is a effective programme. I did week 7 run 1 this morning, it was an effort getting started, but after the first uncomfortable 5 mins the next 20 went by quite quickly :)

HappyLemonSadLemon · 05/05/2020 12:11

Great to see everyone doing so well. I can't believe you got so close to finishing @Mummyme87. I hope you get to finish this time.

I'm on w4R2 now. I'm going to have to stop running with my dog because quite frankly she is an utter pain in the arse. It's a shame because I feel safer running with her and she loves (and needs!) the extra exercise but after her tom-foolery and generally upsetting antics yesterday she's lost the gig.

choc27 · 05/05/2020 16:39

W7r2 done this morning. I definitely find the middle bits of a long run harder than the end!

Baseline2815 · 05/05/2020 17:23

W8R2 done. Had to stop twice for traffic lights (preferable to being smooshed under a car!) and then added on 2 mins at the end which wound up being steeply uphill. Done, at least.

ChanklyBore · 05/05/2020 17:44

W5R2, just back. I did 5 mins walk, 8 mins run, 5 mins walk, then 8 mins run, and I felt OK so I thought I’d push it to 10 mins run. And that was OK and I thought, I’ll run to the end of the five mins warm down, so 13 mins, then I’ll do the five mins warm down tagged on the end, to better prepare me for the 20 min run I know is coming next.

Well I only went and ran the twenty today Blush Grin

It’s the furthest I’ve ever run in my life and I am grinning all over my face!!

resipsa · 05/05/2020 18:49

OP just popping back to say although I finished it on Sunday, I ran 5K again today. Warning: it's addictive 😉

Well done @resipsa!!

Ive just started week 1...
Can anyone tell me what app they use to get music to play in the background at the same time? I tried opening the ordinary free youtube and playing it but it didn't work at all!

BeMoreZenLike · 05/05/2020 19:18

Do you have an app?

TisTheSeasonToBe · 05/05/2020 19:27

@BeMoreZenLike I have an app for the c25k bit.
Not sure which music app will let me play both tho?
Happy to download any recommenced music apps, even if they have a small cost.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 05/05/2020 19:43

@TisTheSeasonToBe I use Spotify, you can use it free but there are lots of adverts so I pay a small fee for all four of us to have an account.

@resipa well done again, did you get faster?

Well done to all the new starters too.

resipsa · 05/05/2020 19:45

@RonBurgundyspanpipe
No - a minute slower! But I wasn't as pumped for the finish, now I'm an old hand 😉

I use the ZenLabs app for c25k which works with whatever you use to play music on your phone. I have an old iTunes library stored (from pre-streaming days) and Spotify for streaming, which is a monthly subscription service. If you have amazon prime you’ll also have access to amazon music. I never use it (though I do have prime) so no idea what the back catalogue is like but thought it was worth flagging up to you just in case you have prime and didn’t need to shell out for another music service.

TisTheSeasonToBe · 05/05/2020 22:51

@JonHammIsMyJamm thanks for that - I do have amazon prime but didn't realise it had music!!
fingers crossed it will play with the c25k run app at the same time!

GuyFawkesDay · 05/05/2020 22:54

I use the NHS one and I have Sarah Millican talking to me over my Spotify.

W4 starts tomorrow. Argh!!

wantingahome · 05/05/2020 23:15

Love that I found this thread! I started last week so tomorrow I will be doing week 2 run 2 😊

rarathenoisylioness · 06/05/2020 07:41

Did w3r2 this morning. For some reason found it quite tough. No idea why!!

Bubblysqueak · 06/05/2020 08:55

wantingahome I've just finished my second run of week 2...and I survived! Hope you have a good run.
