I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Well done @titsbumfannythelot. I started week 2 today, so we’re at a similar point Smile. How are you finding it?

titsbumfannythelot · 19/04/2020 19:59

I've found it ok so far. Although my legs are incredibly tired afterwards. I found a post running yoga stretch on YouTube yesterday which I did afterwards, which felt nice.

How are you getting on with it?

JonHammIsMyJamm · 20/04/2020 07:07

Not too bad, thanks. Yesterday, at the end
of w2r1 I could feel some pulling in my calves but no lasting issues. I’m glad I’ve got the fist week out of the way Smile

quertyuiop100 · 20/04/2020 07:52

W1R3 completed this morning. I was out at 6.30am and it was so fresh and lovely. This is the first run that I've managed to complete all 8 runs in their entirety. Think I'll do W1 again though next week so I'm confident enough to move onto the next stage.

HappyLemonSadLemon · 20/04/2020 08:09

Glad your DHs revised programme is working for you MrsG. Lovely to see more people joining the thread too.

Still on W4 here. I've done three runs now but am going to do at least one more W4 run because I'm not quite there for W5. I think I've got a bit of a mental block about week 5 so I'm going to make sure I'm properly ready for it before I embark on it.

BlahBlahLand · 20/04/2020 09:11

Week 5 run3 completed albeit slowly. A big thanks to all of you especially @Runningonempty84, there’s no way this slightly tubby 50 year old could’ve imagined running 20 minutes without stopping.

Baseline2815 · 20/04/2020 11:06

@BlahBlahLand Congrats! As a fellow slightly tubby 50-year-old, I know what a major accomplishment that was. I just finished W5R3 yesterday, and start Week 6 tomo. (I'm leaving a rest day between each run as I'm paranoid about injury!)

I feel like that jump - from 8 minutes to 20 straight - is one of the biggest challenges in this programme. I'm also worried about Week 7, which is just 25 minutes straight, 3 times over. But I reckon we'll get there if we made it this far!

mama4321 · 20/04/2020 11:47

I did W5R1 this morning, and it was absolutely fine. I am a bit wary of the next 2 runs this week with the big jump to 8 then 20 mins, but so far I have been amazed how relatively easily I have gone from week to week even when I have felt doubtful of my abilities, so I will try to trust the program.

Happy running everyone.

CeibaTree · 20/04/2020 12:10

Everyone is doing so well :)

I did week 4 run 3 this morning, it was a gorgeous sunny morning for it :)

I just had a look ahead at week 5, and run 3 is a 20 min run! I can't see how I'm going to be able to do that in a few days time!!

Have a good monday everyone :)

BlahBlahLand · 20/04/2020 12:29

@Baseline2815 well done to you too, sending a virtual pat on the back.
It's such a great feeling this sense of accomplishment.
@CeibaTree, don't worry, read what @Runningonempty84 told me, it's a mental rather than physical challenge.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/04/2020 12:32

Can I join?

Restarted (again!) This week, done oy two but W1R2 this morning in the fresh was gorgeous. Loved it.

Haven't run for more than 10 minutes since about 2004 so hoping I'll make it to the end!!

HappyLemonSadLemon · 20/04/2020 13:09

Early morning running is amazing isn't it. Love it.

titsbumfannythelot · 20/04/2020 15:24

Absolutely fantastic @HappyLemonSadLemon especially in this glorious weather. Must keep this up for the mental health Smile

HappyStripper · 20/04/2020 19:08

Was just searching for a C25K thread and yay I found it! Just finished week 3 run 1 and am definitely seeing an improvement. The 3 minute runs were hard but manageable and I did manage to keep going the whole time. It’s starting to feel really good and perks me up in the mornings.

The one thing I am kinda struggling with though is that on days that I run I am then a tired slug the rest of the day and don’t have the energy for much else. May need to start eating more.

resipsa · 21/04/2020 07:08

Another beautiful morning here! Lockdown bliss and torture in equal measure. W7R3 done for me. On to 28 mins next...

Couch to 5K - Run 1 done...
JonHammIsMyJamm · 21/04/2020 09:12

w2r2 done

It was ok. I do find I’m getting achy calves though, which is annoying.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 21/04/2020 09:13

The world to yourself, @ememem84

Baseline2815 · 21/04/2020 09:56

Just finished W6R1. Not too bad - felt at the end like I could have gone a bit further. Not, ya know, much further! How this plan intends for me to run 25mins by Saturday, I've no idea.
JonHamm does stretching help your calves at all? It did mine.

titsbumfannythelot · 21/04/2020 10:00

There are some you tube yoga stretching videos which I find helpful, it might be worth trying those @JonHammIsMyJamm

ememem84 · 21/04/2020 10:35

Absolutely @JonHammIsMyJamm

Have you tried standing on the bottom step in your house, toes on step and heels off. And bringing heels to the floor and then up. Helps me stretch calf’s for riding.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 21/04/2020 10:54

I’l give those calf stretches a go, thanks. I’m fine post run, it’s during that’s the issue. A few deep breaths help, I suppose it’s getting more oxygen to the muscle but I’m sure the stretches will warm me up a bit too. Cheers

ememem84 · 21/04/2020 11:42

I worked out that I wasn’t stretching either after running.

Or breathing (sometimes not at all!)

Helps a lot!!!

resipsa · 21/04/2020 16:19

@ememem84
Ha! That was my problem - forgetting to breathe then wondering why I was out of breath. Thinking about your breathing is a miracle cure 😂
