New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

Thanks purple I did 21DF Day 1. I was mostly Cat, and sometimes Cat's out of shape sister (had to lie on the floor while my heart beat out of my chest) but I did it.Smile

Morning Meltdown looks good, I love the short workouts. The 1 hour workouts for 80DO are just way too long to do every day.

Hi Tilikum, welcome to the thread! T-Rex arms Grin keep that as a goal. Once you achieve it you'll feel so good!!

Hows the heel yum ? Hopefully you can do some exercises from online. I second the replacing trainers. I did the majority of Insanity without any shoes and it really messed my feet up. It was only when I wore trainers that it went away.

Purple haha 21 day fix as a hangover cure. Maybe they could use that on their marketing Grin hope the running is going well? Are you having to make any adjustments for the ultra?

Roman I might give it a watch... see if it's worth having a go. Is it quite high impact? Might have to pass if it is. I saw some funky mad plank kick up things she did and thought maybe not but...

Oh Reastie you poor thing. It will pass. All things will pass. It just feels awful at the moment. I suspect that you are alot like me in that im highly dependent on exercise to keep me in a stable and happy mood? Have you been getting out for a walk? I know it sounds pathetic but when I was super frustrated and bound at home, getting out with the pram or the carrier really helped. The walk gave me a little bit of exercise and it really made it just abit more bearable.

reastie I know we keep saying it but give it time and don't push yourself just yet. This phase will pass and you will settle into a routine and find a time to incorporate exercise Smile Your body has been through a hell of a lot!!

Tilikum well done on getting the first workout done - doesn't matter how much you modify or how many extra breaks you have to take , you did it!! Give yourself a high five Grin

Plink I think there is a mix of workouts - so some cardio ones, some with weights, core ones etc. Yes the cardio ones do appear to be high impact but there seems to be 2 modifiers who modify at different levels so plenty of options if you don't want to do the kicking plank thing which I most certainly do not!

Well done on the workout tilikum. I hope you enjoyed it!

Reastie - I remember the post baby slump. I bet it’s exhaustion talking. I remember crying when dd was 9days old and saying to dh I’d like to drop her back at the hospital just for 1 night so I could have a rest, then pick her up the next day. Shock hang in there

Plink - I cannot believe you did insanity with no shoes. That actually is insanity!!

You’ve got me tempted on the 100 day workout. I’ll have a look when I’m finished 21dfx. Decided to move my rest day to weds so did dirty 30 tonight. All the liift has meant for the first time ever I can do the curtsy lunges. Woo hoo. It is so humid here I was absolutely melting by the end. Also realised I could distract myself during side planks by reading mumsnet. I’m sure that meant I stayed up for another 10secs!

It’s quiet on here. Hope you’re feeling a bit better reastie

So, did plyo fix last night and upper fix this am. Am now on week 3 and the upper fix workout was noticeably harder - difference with the 21dfx live workouts seems to be that the weeks progress which is good. Am thinking about repeating week 3 if they’re all like the one I just did!

I found myself wondering whether they did anything with the cast members - photos/measurements pre and post. A few of them are more normal shaped people so it would be a really good motivator and selling point if we could see the effectiveness of the workouts through them?

Hope you’re all well!

I’ve been taking it more easy and feeling a bit better, although I’m not sure if I’m actually improving or just the effects of not not doing so much. Noticed as soon as I move a little more even things like cooking makes the wound hurt more, but I’m only on painkillers half the time now so making progress. Still feeling insatiable hunger on and off which just makes my whole body hurt, yet I know I’m eating too many calories already so it’s not that I’m restricting myself too much. Trying to drink a glass of water first before I eat to see if it’s thirst then have fruit and see if that’s enough. But I’m aware despite this I’m eating more than I should.

Purple that’s a really good point about the cast. They should do that! Often the people in these things look so fit already that the program prob doesn’t make a huge improvement like it would for normal types.

Plink you are insane doing insanity with out trainers!

Gah Tania has been annoying me enough on instagrambut today I see Shaun t plugging Colgate toothpaste on there. Presumably he’s getting money or free stuff for this. I know this is probably the norm now but I hate how they do this, it feels like he’s cheapening himself a somehow by doing this and for some reason I have less trust in him.

Oh no Plink - I hate it when that happens Angry please come back and right up the long post later!

Reastie - glad you are feeling a bit better - I think for someone who has just given birth things like standing at the cooker making a meal equates to doing a full on workout so well done!

Welcome Tilikum! Thanks for the tip about youtube videos - I need to check that out - piano with toes sounds pretty fun as a stretch Grin

Thanks everyone for all the advice - you are all so lovely. So I have some new trainers, they are fine and didn't hurt my feet but I am not sure if they are bouncy enough (think they are fake new balance only cost £22) so I will keep my eye out for more expensive gel type ones on an offer.

Roman I looked at the fitflops - omg they are not the most attractive of shoes - there were a few that looked quite nice but they were super expensive! I have ordered some sandals with a Birkenstock looking sole from asda that have good reviews and look comfortable so fingers crossed. I have been doing the rolling a ball under the foot exercise which has been good.

Just to explain the tight fistedness - I had planned not to buy myself any shoes or clothes for the next year to save money and then month 1 it's all screwed up by needing new shoes! I am being like scrooge at the moment with spreadsheets etc! It's extra annoying now as I cant walk to the various supermarkets and carry loads of shopping.

Purple I am quite tempted to switch to the workouts you are doing - would you say they are easier or harder than joel?

I did shoulders today, I tried to not modify but could feel the stretch under my foot doing the runners so modified all the hiit in the end, also used the lightest weight possible. I enjoyed it - felt good to exercise!

Try again...

Yeah it was insane ha. Taking insanity to a whole new level. In my defence though, I was living with a relative in her flat which was a top floor flat. Doing globe jumps and diamond jumps with shoes on made it sound like an elephant parade Grin

Reastie I hope you're feeling better. I'm going to say this again and I know I sound like a stuck record but I'm saying this for you own good... stop worrying about your food intake! The only things you should be worrying about are feeding your baby, getting some sleep, looking after yourself and resting. Seriously, let's look at this a bit more.
Your body NEEDS those extra cals you're fretting about. Think about how much repairing your body needs to do. Your body is doing so much already:

  1. birth recovery - everything is repairing, tears are repairing, everything is contracting, hormones are changing, organs are starting to return to where they should be. Your body has been through such trauma and change.
  2. C-Sec. You have a big wound that needs repairing. Several layers of skin tissue and fat and muscle and uterus need to heal. Your body needs fuel to repair this one too.
  3. Breastfeeding. You are burning loads of calories right there making milk for you little one day and night.

You have a TRIPLE WHAMMY of calorie burning there Reastie. You NEED those extra calories. Your body literally needs then to do its job and get you healed. Think of it this way - if you let your body heal now and give it all the energy it needs, the faster you will recover, the faster you will heal, the faster you can get back to doing workouts. Keep drinking lots of water and fill up on protein to help wih satiety and that repairing process. But let your body eat as much as it needs. Your hunger is there for a reason.

Purple ha normal people. Funny you should mention that. All the people on Liift4 are like exdancers (Neil) and ballet dancers (Sollay) and lifted weights previously... none of them seem to be the type who have whacked on 30lbs after child birth and had to work really hard to get their body in shape. Even Tania was the same... she danced on stage with Britney Spears before the Beachbody stuff. I find it a bit of a difficult thing to deal with sometimes - I find myself wondering why I don't have the body of those people (I try not to compare but it does slip in sometimes). I'd rather hear from some real people sometimes.

yum it's the worst Grin oh glad you got new shoes!! I have knock offs too... not the same brand but they do the job which is the main thing. Hopefully the foot is feeling better now after some ball rubbing?

Roman done anymore Morning 100 workouts? I still haven't had a chance to look yet. Gimme time Haha.

@Tilikum any news on your 21 day fix? How have you been finding it?

Hi Plinkplink My 21DF is going OK, thanks for keeping me honest! I missed Cardio fix this morning (had a lie in) but hopefully I can do it tonight to keep on schedule. I actually feel a bit fitter already. Thank you Autumn, even though I hate you 98% of the time.

Reastie I second Plink's advice that your body needs food to heal. There is so much extra skin, muscle and connective tissue to be repaired, and it has to be made from your food. It must be so frustrating for you though when you're so used to being active. Hope you feel better soon.

purple how do you think 21DF live compares with the original version? Is it much harder? Perhaps I'll do that once I've finished with 21DF original flavour.

Argh - ran 14miles today. I was broken by the end. My legs were so sore I had to take an ibuprofen. It was weird as I didn’t feel that tired so I think maybe i hadn’t had enough electrolytes or something? It gave me a wobble as I’ve got to run more than double that distance in 9 weeks time Shock. Yikes. I know I’m approaching it in the right way and building my long run gradually, so it should be fine, but it didn’t feel that fine today!

Poppy - I do that ‘no spend’ thing and inevitably when I start something breaks and needs replacing. Birkenstock’s are the best - seriously the soft sole ones are amazing and last for ages so they’re expensive but so worth it.

I think 21dfx is easier than liift but I do the moves faster than autumn which makes it harder. I do like it as there is a bit more cardio which I like. It’s definitely worth a try.

Roman - you are the most hardcore dieter in this thread. You’ve lost 100lbs so even if you are eating more than you’d like now once your body settles down again you’ll be able to lose it. Hang in there, try to take it easy, keep on the painkillers and you will feel back to your normal self eventually. Remember your pregnancy - you toughed that out. You can do this too. I hope ds is doing ok and your dd is settling in to being an older sister.

Yay tilikum - well done for keeping going. Let us know how cardio fix goes later. I’m doing 21 day fix extreme. I’ve not done 21df so I don’t know how it compares. 21dfx live is a bit easier than the original one but gets harder each week so week 3 is like the original if that makes sense?
Autumn gets on my nerves though - I wish she’d just shut up and properly cue the moves rather than wittering on about positive mental attitude Envy

Thank you plink and everyone else, you are of course so right! And two and a half weeks in it’s amazing the improvement already so hopefully another two and a half weeks and I’ll be so much better. I estimate I’m easily eating 3000 calories a day atm though 😩😳😲. Sorry it must be so dull having me on here constantly moaning and being a broken record. Apart from screaming in pain from wind Ds is doing really well, already above his birth weight (so all the bfing is paying off!) and dd is adjusting really well.

Purple i’d Never thought about electrolytes. When I did long runs (up to 1.5 hours) I’d really be flagging for the last 20 minutes and my legs were so painful and heavy and achy. I never had anything to drink or eat during the run and I read somewhere something about runs longer than an hour your body needs something to keep you going so I wonder if that was my issue.

Yumy if ever I have a ‘I’m going to spend nothing month’ you can guarantee everything will break or need replacing suddenly! Be careful with cheap trainers as they can be a false economy. I know trainers can seem a con and I don’t think you need the mega bucks ones but a decent pair designed for exercise rather than just for looks work a lot differently. Plus I think of it that if you didn’t have decent equipment you’re more likely to have an injury which means more likely to end out paying for painkillers/physio etc etc to recover so you spend more in the long run. Maybe that’s just me talking myself into getting stuff though!

Be careful exercising in this heat today!

Wk 3 plyo today. Was supposed to be harder as it was a jump and then a hold but actually I think it is harder to just keep jumping so I did that instead. For the first time I also managed most of the abs workout so I guess it has done me some good. Hope you all had a good weekend

Evening!

Reastie glad you are recognising what your body has been through and are going to be patient with yourself. Time will fly by and you will be ramping up the exercise slowly before you know it Smile glad all is going well with DS - newborns are so snuggly aren't they?

Purple when I was doing my 10 mile runs, it would wipe me out for a few hours with nausea which I assume is the lack of electrolytes Reastie has mentioned. You can get those little sachets to take with you?

Yum yes Fitflops are pretty hideous although I do have some of the standard flip flops they do (not the wedge ones) and they are very comfortable and worth the money (think there is a sale on at the moment). How is your foot now? Has the pain eased?

Tilikum are you enjoying the 21df workouts? I am interested to know how much the week 2 ones increase in intensity.

I'm plodding along here - nearly finished week 6 of LIIFT although I ended up missing one week 5 one and I still need to do week 6 legs even though we are starting week 7 tomorrow. Bloody DS's and their evening activities have played havoc with our schedule these last couple of weeks Hmm have given up on Operation Holiday skirt as it was never going to happen...maybe next year Grin However, I am focusing on the fact I am 2 stone lighter than I was on holiday last year so hopefully I will feel better. Am trying to decide whether to take my gym stuff on holiday and try and get in a few workouts - never managed it before as I just go into total sloth mode once I arrive Blush

This weekend I was in sloth mode too and missed both Dirty 30 and 21DF Yoga. I did Total Body Cardio Fix this morning, but do you think it's worth me catching up the workouts I missed from last week? That might also be a strong encouragement not to skip workouts again in the future!

Roman losing 2 stones in a year is fantastic! Did you do that just using the Beachbody workouts?

Purple completely agree about Autumn being a terrible cuer, especially in the cool downs. You gave to watch her like a hawk!

tilikum it was with Beachbody workouts (mainly LIIFT) plus calorie counting with Team RH diet (check it out on FB - it's amazing! They talk so much sense about the diet industry). I lost a stone before last year's holiday so 3 stone down now...another 2 to go Confused but I've pretty much been stuck around the same weight since Christmas as I've not really focused properly and binged a bit too much so I've been up and down!

Thermo the improvement ant thing is you’re still on it and working, and I found at a certain point I didn’t lose weight but I did gain muscle and become healthier. 3 stone is fantastic work and you’re past half way.

Lying on my back in bed trying to air my section wound as mw took a swab last week and just got the results today that an infection came up but they said since I’m not in obvious increased pain or feeling unwell I may get away without antibiotics so doing everything I can to avoid them as they upset my stomach.

Well done for keeping going tilikum. I dont catch up if I’ve missed a workout. Sometimes —never!— I do a double. I usually just jump back into the programme wherever I left off. I don’t often have a rest of more than 2 or 3 days though, except if I’m ill. It is hard to get back in the habit if you let it slip.

Roman i didn’t clock you’d lost 3 stone. That is awesome!! I’m actually even more impressed at your mentality that you can pause the weight loss for a while then get back on it. That is so motivated and really shows that team RH works for you. If you don’t normally workout on hols why don’t you set your sights a bit lower - maybe commit to a 10min workout a couple of times whilst you’re away?

Sorry to hear re the scar reastie. Fingers crossed it clears on its own.

Rest day yesterday and then dirty 30 today. I’ve decided to do the original 30 Dfx for comparison purposes when I finish this week. I think it is a lot harder. Or maybe, I’m now loads stronger than when I did it before?? Hmm

Hopefully the airing helps Reastie my mum always advises eating live yoghurt after antibiotics (if you have to have them) to replace as much gut bacteria as you can.

Well done on Week 6 Roman how many rounds have you done now? 😂 it's frustrating when things get in the way but all you can do is try and fit it in.

I've been slipping again on my food intake. Just not being entirely conscious of things (particularly my sweettooth). Hoping to sort it out this week and focus - easier said than done as it's my birthday tomorrow and OH is taking me out for dinner 🙈. Week 5 Chest and Tris today.

Tilikum well done on keeping it going. I prefer to catch up personally but I think it's down to personal preference. If I skip workouts my brain then gives up on the whole program so I don't do that 😂

Hi All

Purple - hope you are feeling a bit better soon - it's really uncomfortable and weird sensation having a cold when its hot, take it easy if you go for a run Flowers

Roman really well done even maintaining a 3 stone loss is a big deal - its hard not to focus on the goal you have set but in a way keeping 3 stone off and exercising is harder than just going for severe calorie counting and doing harm to your body but seeing the scale go down in number. You probably look better and are healthier too than you would in that scenario.

Reastie I religiously aired my wound (not csection so lightly tmi) 2nd and 3rd time round as didn't heal properly after dc 1 - it really worked. Fingers crossed you don't need the ABs and it heals up quick.

Plink I am still getting foot pain every day - the heat isn't helping as feet swelling up, I am not consistent enough with stretches though and also it is bloody impossible not to be on my feet as there is always stuff to do! I did the yoga stretch from 3 day retreat though which didn't cause any problem and felt quite nice - I needed it!

Tilki - did you catch up. I ususally would if I was being strict (can't remember the last time I was strict tbf!) but not sure f it's the best idea - could cause problems doing too many in a row.
