Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

OMG, did wk2r2 today, it seemed so much harder than wk2r1. No idea why 😬

MyGastIsFlabbered · 04/05/2019 18:04

I failed spectacularly at Parkrun today. We arrived late and I was horrendously behind the tail walkers and got a bit flustered and gave up. Not going to go until I can run a decent amount.

Pardalis · 04/05/2019 19:03

Woo Hoo!!!

W5R3 in the bag!!!!! Super chuffed with myself

AlmaWhittaker · 04/05/2019 20:54

Yah pardalis, can't even imagine being on w5 but hope to get there. W1R2 done and felt good even.

Prequelle · 04/05/2019 20:58

I'm only on w1r3, going slow if I have to as I'm pregnant and unfit. Enjoyed the first 2

Pardalis · 04/05/2019 21:58

@AlmaWhittaker - I NEVER imagined I would be able to run for that long. Week 1 was definitely the hardest. As everyone says, stick with it and you can do it. I'm quite frankly astonished at what my body can do!

@Prequelle - are you sure you should be doing this pregnant if you are unfit? Please be careful. Perhaps walk it?

Fazackerley · 05/05/2019 09:17

I did park run yesterday and according to couch to 5k I need to take a day off. But I feel.like going for a run. That's ok isn't it?

purplereindeer · 05/05/2019 15:45

Hello!

May I join in? I was a pretty serious runner (50 miles a week usually!) before this baby was born, he is four months old now and I'm getting back in to it with a sped up version of C25K.

Pardalis · 05/05/2019 17:22

Hello! 50 miles a week? Holy crap. That's amazing.
I've just done W5R3 again - just to make sure 😊

MyGastIsFlabbered · 05/05/2019 19:53

I bought proper running shoes yesterday-looking forward to trying them out tomorrow. I can't believe I'm nearly halfway through the program already-crikey!

Sharpkat · 05/05/2019 22:36

Have just finished week 1 and am ready to start week 2. Have never been a runner before and probably never will be but this could be a compromise.

Pardalis · 05/05/2019 22:52

@Sharpkat - in 5 weeks you will be!

Trust the programme. Get addicted!

sukiandthekettle · 06/05/2019 00:25

Just got back from W6R2 and loved it! So glad after hating R1 Smile
The nice thing about the longer chunks of running is not glancing at a watch the whole time - I had my head up, observing, enjoying the scenery etc. I live abroad and it was sunny and about 15°C which was lovely, it was great!
@Fazackerley for me, having at least a day off between runs has enabled me to keep going through the programme, as any pain/twangs I feel in my legs ease off over the 24-48 hours, but if you're pain free and craving a run why not?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/05/2019 07:44

Hi all, you seem to be doing so well everybody. I just can't imagine running for so long but I'm going to give it a go. I'm fat and unfit.

For anyone who is also fat, what do you wear for running on the streets? I have a decent sports bra, and decent trainers. In the past I would have worn leggings and a big t-shirt, but now the big t-shirts are all significantly smaller than they used to be Blush, and they do not cover my bum. And where do you put you phone/keys while you're running? Nothing has pockets!

I'm planning on doing w1r1 on Tuesday, and hope to do Tuesday, Friday, Sunday every week.

chaosisaladder · 06/05/2019 07:47

@msawesomedragon some people really recommend running belts. I haven’t got one yet but might invest if I keep this up!

I’m on w4r3 today. I can’t believe that I can run for 5 minutes a time. I’m scared to look ahead at what’s the come but I am just feeling so pleased. I feel the best I’ve felt mentally for a long time! I just need to stop eating allllll the food now Grin

MyGastIsFlabbered · 06/05/2019 07:52

@MsAwesomeDragon I felt exactly the same. I'm 44, at least 4 stone overweight and permanently knackered. But I'm now about to start week 5 and never in a million years did I think I could run for 5 minutes straight.

I've been getting a lot of ankle pain so I've just invested in some proper running shoes but behold that I was just wearing cheap New Balance trainers. Sports bras were from M&S.

I bought a bum bag type belt from Amazon that I fit my phone into.

Good luck! You can do this. If you're on FB there's a great group in there which is really supportive in addition to this thread.

Fazackerley · 06/05/2019 08:58

I bought some running tights from decathlon that have a key pocket in the waist band and a phone pocket on the leg. They are fab and really comfy.

Pardalis · 06/05/2019 17:59

Just done W6R1. Can't quite work out whether it was harder or easier than the 20 minute run!

swimmingdory · 06/05/2019 18:48

I'm on week 4 ... found it tough today but that's mainly because I've eaten nothing but crap for three weeks now and it's impacting on me. So I'll go back to healthy tomorrow. But I looked ahead to week 5 and 😬😱 is it really do-able?? 5 mins was really tough and that's got a 20 minute straight? Seems such a jump.

BedraggledBlitz · 06/05/2019 19:04

Hi all! Hope you've had a nice bank holiday (or nice Monday if you're not in England!).

I did w4r3 today. I did it but I found it tough. I'm wondering if I should repeat w4 or just plough on...

sanityisamyth · 06/05/2019 19:58

@BedraggledBlitz I found that one hard too but thought if I don't plough on I'd get stuck so I tried W5R1 and found it OK. Crack on!

sanityisamyth · 06/05/2019 20:02

I did something I had never even dreamed of . . . I entered a family run in Bristol with my 5 year old DS - just a mile around the harbourside. My DS hated it - whinged and cried the whole way round (and then was fine within a minute of finishing!!!) but I managed 16 minutes of running (with only the smallest amount of walking to tell DS to stop whinging!). I had completed W5R2 before that so it was about right really, but now thinking W5R3 is actually manageable. And I got a medal!!! 🏅 🏃‍♀️🏅

Pardalis · 06/05/2019 20:25

Hurrah for medal. I now really want one.
Would like to do Park run but put off about the fact it's a Saturday. It's my first lie in of the week!

sanityisamyth · 06/05/2019 20:44

@Pardalis can you use it as a slot for one of your runs each week?

Pardalis · 06/05/2019 20:50

It's the fact that I work Monday to Friday and out the house 12 hours a day. I love not having to get up on a Saturday!
