This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

That's amazing Alex ! Well done.
13.4 mile long run this morning. Felt tough for the first four miles and I struggled to get into it but it improved a bit after that.

That's amazing Alex!!

Well done Stingy :)

Im saving my joints a bit so went out for a longish bike ride instead.

CarrotPuff · 13/07/2019 18:01

@Stingynettle you lie down on a table, draw knees towards your chest, then drop one leg without forcing in down. If all is ok, your thigh should touch the table. If your hip flexors are too tight, it won't. So my right side sort of just hovered over the table.

I've done some strength training on Thursday, and everything still hurts, but I think that bit that hurt before, doesn't, if that makes sense? I think I'll attempt an easy run tomorrow and see how it goes...

Stingynettle · 13/07/2019 19:35

Thanks Carrot. I'll give that a shot (once I clear the dinner dishes!) Good luck with your easy run tomorrow.

AuntieStella · 14/07/2019 09:13

Do you mean drop down to the side? I must try that, it I'm rubbish at visualising exercises from written descriptions!

I'll be going back to a Pilates class after the summer holidays, because I find them really good for counterbalancing all the tightnesses that creep in when it's just running.

I had a nice 10k yesterday. Still rather slow, because it's still hot, so I'm deliberately going a bit more slowly and am having walking water breaks every now and again (I'm really bad at drinking whilst actually running)

Lovely hilly run along country roads in the sunshine today. Went out a little later and met 2 other runners - usually I only meet deer & buzzards! Sore heel is behaving so really pleased with that.

@AuntieStella not to the side, just down. You can probably google it or YouTube it.

Hip still feels tight, so still no running, damn it. Will do some yoga tonight instead...

CarrotPuff · 14/07/2019 11:48

After some more googling I'm pretty convinced I've pulled a groin muscle. Says can take up to 6 weeks to heal, but mine is a mild one so should be sooner. Bummer.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 14/07/2019 19:45

Wow Alex that is amazing!

Well I'm 4 days no vaping now.

I ran Friday. Just 5.5 miles off road. My favourite little run really.

Saturday did 4.5 miles as fast as I could, went well.

Today I did 11.2 miles off road. Loved it. Took it steady and felt great.

Off to Spain on Wednesday. Will take my running stuff but squeezing all I can in before I go.

Hope your groin strain improves soon Carrot

Well done Leno, you did it!
Gentle 3 miles tonight. Starting to taper for a race.

well done leno! I hope you feel ok tomorrow!
No run today but I went to spin class this evening. Sweat city.

LenoVentura · 15/07/2019 07:40

Thanks! Knees are absolutely killing me this morning 😩. I'm glad I did it but equally glad to know I'm never doing it again Grin. I'm a Middle Aged Middle Distance Diva (MAMDD) and proud of it Grin. Going to focus on speed work now with the aim of getting a PB over 10k in October.

emummy · 15/07/2019 08:37

Well done Leno!

Well done Leno, you did it!

Leg felt fine this morning, so went for a very slow test run. Felt fine throughout, although I was very conscious to run veeery slowly with very short strides. Planning to go on Friday again if it still feels fine 🤞

Good news carrot

I just tried to run home from work. I was struck by the most atrocious runners ‘trots’ or whatever is a nicer name for it. Made the whole thing horrible. Haven’t had it so badly in ages. Any tips?

Stingynettle · 15/07/2019 21:59

Well done Leno and that's good news about your run Carrot. A slow 5 miles this evening. I ended up with cramp 2 miles in so jogged slowly with frequent stretch breaks home.

Hope I suffer terribly with runners bowel, it's been very bad this last 10 days as nerves set in for my races. The pain really set in during my 10k and I thought it was a stitch, but it didn't go away so I started on Buscopan. Before my HM yesterday I backed that up with a single Imodium tablet which worked well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2019 07:34

I can only run if I've been to the loo that day. Otherwise I have to stick to close to home. I look with envy at people who can run super early in the morning. Fortunately for races nerves kick in and I go umpteen times before hand. I must never get chill about races Grin I do carry imodium to races though, just in case.

HopeCrescent · 16/07/2019 08:10

Thank you. I felt utterly pathetic yesterday- nowhere to go (had taken a circuitous route home from work. I have never taken Imodium before but I am going to try it and have it on me just for security.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2019 08:15

I refuse to discuss the couple of time-s- that I've had to find an emergency bush Blush

emummy · 16/07/2019 09:16

Up early for intervals today trying to beat the heat. Good session, still very warm!
I have definitely had to do wild poos, luckily I run in a rural area with lots of handy woodland! There are certain foods that make it more likely and for me it's more likely to be a problem on afternoon or evening runs.

Hope Imodium is very powerful so IME I don't need the whole dose. 1 of the instants works really well and doesn't bung you up for ages after. Why don't you try one anyway, not necessarily for a run and it might help settle things back down. I find I get that effect from the Buscopan, then top up with an Instant Imodium before the race. You might need a bit of trial and error to find what works for you.

CarrotPuff · 16/07/2019 20:03

Thankfully I've never had the trots, even on longer runs. I do get quite gassy sometimes though so I cautiously let it rip once there's no one within earshot Blush
