Btw as soon as you all have a few sessions under your belts consider parkrun 🙂 you can volunteer before you run one when you will see that the participants vary between those who speed around in under 18 minutes to those who plod around in 50+ minutes and everyone else in between 😁

It’s lovely and inclusive and friendly and free 😉

I staggered round my 100th with a stonking hangover looking feeling and smelling like death 😂😂😂 my friends ran with me and other parkrunners congratulated me as they passed and then we went for breakfast.

So much better than staying in bed feeling sorry for myself!

Runners are generally very lovely people 🙂 and if you are doing c25k you are a runner 💕

I'm switching trainer for the first time for my week 9 run 2 tomorrow to Michael, I feel like I'm being unfaithful to Jo though! Grin

timetomoveon · 12/02/2019 08:17

Michael is fabulous. He believes in you and really encourages you. I feel like he’s my actual personal trainer.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 12/02/2019 10:34

I had to go back to Sarah today, stupid app malarkey, and I did not do my turn yesterday ..somehow I just could not face going out after such a lovely day tootling about the beach and the museum. My fitbit was very pleased with me though, all the daundering about put my step count right up.

but today was w6r2, no repeats, I just went for it, and did okay.

also dh spotted a foldyup treadmill on the local selling pages, so now it is mine.....I did five minutes, after the cross trainer... it feels very odd, so I am going to have to practise with that!

I think if I do that for 10 or 15 minutes on the off days I won't overdo it and by the time I am done with the whole 9 weeks, I can start over on the treadmill and become a real runner.

Fiddie · 12/02/2019 19:43

I found wk6 r2 hard today. I think it's the stopping and starting. Once I've been walking it's a real struggle to run again.

Violetroselily · 12/02/2019 19:53

Yep I found W6R2 difficult, especially on the second run. someone told me there would be a point where it's harder to stop and start than to keep going.

I'm going to do W6R3 in an hour or so Sad

Twiglet2353 · 12/02/2019 19:58

Yep really struggled with W6R2 for me today too. First ten minutes were okay but the second stint I ended up showing to walking after about 4 minutes and then again another 4 minutes after that.

Not sure how I'll get on with W6R3 but I'll give it a go

Violetroselily · 12/02/2019 21:22

So the 25 minute run was actually fine. Feel very motivated now and Michael's kind words kept me going.

Good luck everyone doing this one next.

TheSteveMilliband · 12/02/2019 22:10

Excited to have discovered this thread, am on wk5 run 1 which I just completed after a week and a half of not running because of cold / family illness. Worried I'd lost momentum but managed it ok. Will need to see how rest of week goes though. Will be good to keep up with you lot!

Coldandfrosty · 12/02/2019 22:26

Oh I am so thankful for this thread. I had an awful r6w2. I did keep jogging but v slowly but felt awful and like my legs were lead.

I found w5r3 much easier!

So glad I'm not the only one. W6r3 is going to be Fri. Fingers crossed

timetomoveon · 13/02/2019 01:52

I did w6r2 this morning and found the second run really hard too. It’s lid of encouraging to know that lots of you did as well. I kept going but I was really slow. I think I would have preferred to just do the 20 minute run.
R3 on Friday and Michael said only long runs now - eeek!

Twiglet2353 · 13/02/2019 07:11

Okay woken up with a very painful swollen ankle. Think my body is revolting at the idea of exercise 😂

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 13/02/2019 13:11

oh no twiglet ...can you rest and ice it? or ibuprofen gel it as well??

Be careful, I was creeping about for MONTHS after starting this the first time, on the roads, there was no way I could move quickly, even crossing the road I could not nip over in a half sprint, you know how you do if you cba to wait?

I did 20 minutes on the treadmill this morning, just pootling to get my balance, I did okay until I turned it off and I had to clutch the bars to stop the swimmy head feeling.

I have W6R3 tomorrow.

APurpleSquirrel · 13/02/2019 14:04

Hi, i did W1R1 on Monday & have R2 tonight.
I'm probably classed as obese, 8 months post-partum, 39 & haven't run since uni. Need to lose probably 4-5st? Darent weigh myself atm.
R1 was ok - better than I expected, the run bits were tough but got through it. Realised I need to take my inhaler before I go & have a drink.

Coldandfrosty · 13/02/2019 23:02

apurplesquirrel this time 2 years ago I was 17 stone 5. I'm now 11 stone 2. Got less than a stone to lose now until I'm in the normal bmi category. You can do this. Star

vjg13 · 14/02/2019 07:03

Apurplesquirrel You can definitely do it! I'm 51, overweight and haven't run since I was about 15 and will graduate (hopefully!) with my last run on Friday. IME it's about trusting the programme and not listening to the voice in my head telling me to stop! Smile

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 14/02/2019 09:02

just go steady purplesquirrel ..you can always do a slow run/week, and then repeat faster when you know you can do it.

I am also very very old (53) and very much in charge of a good deal of middle aged spread, however even since the beginning of January I can see and feel a difference, there's a lovely gap now between my bust and midriff! ...in 5 weeks! Also noticing a dip between arse and thighs, so there's less there too
I am tackling the longer 8/10 minute runs well and have managed the 20 min W5R3 but pacing it steadily and then repeating it faster

I have W6R3 today ....just got to find socks and trainers! Am a bit yikes about 25 minutes, but I will repeat this, so it's slow today and faster on saturday.

Somehow doing that difficult run twice, slow and faster suits me, but you will find your own "theme" as it were. I am constantly surprised to manage the longer runs, and very pleased with myself.

APurpleSquirrel · 14/02/2019 14:19

Thank you for the support!
W1R2 was ok - found the running bits better at the start, more confident I guess but struggled towards the end - might have gone too fast or the terrain, so slight inclines.
But I'm very pleased that I don't feel awful today - some aches & pains but nothing terrible & not as bad as after the first run.
My DH is on board to help me, so just got to focus on W1R3 tomorrow.

Fiddie · 14/02/2019 16:47

I got my day wrong on my last post. Today was wk6 r2 which was actually ok.

Still only covering about 3.2 km but I did run a bit faster for the last two minutes.

Hope the W6 r3 went well and welcome to the newbies.

swampytiggaa · 14/02/2019 16:51

Just about to head out for wk2r1 with my neighbours! It’s a lovely afternoon for it 😁

dementedma · 14/02/2019 21:28

did W5R2 and found it ok, surprisingly.
i am 55 and overweight but have lost half a stone since starting this and am definitley changing shape!
Have the dreaded W5 R3 this weekend

Piebeansandchips · 14/02/2019 23:19

I've been ill all week with a horrible virus. Not been able to get out at all. Am just going to go with w6r1 on Monday and hope for the best. Well done to everyone that's out there plodding along.

timetomoveon · 14/02/2019 23:31

Hope you feel better soon, pie.

Just did w6r3. The first 5 mins were really hard and I didn’t think I was going to make it but I kept plodding and made it through without stopping and I even went faster for the last 60 seconds. I actually felt like a runner in those 60 seconds.

I’m 44 and overweight. I haven’t lost any weight since starting though - just stayed the same - but the fitness aspect is more important to me right now. I don’t think I’m going very far though - what app is everyone using to track their distances?

fiddie · 14/02/2019 23:33

I haven't lost weight, I've gained it!

I only cover just over 3km and I'm on week 6.

Violetroselily · 15/02/2019 06:51

W7R1 done. I did exactly 3k in the 25 minute run, so I think 5k in 30 minutes seems very unlikely.

Think I'm going to switch to just evening runs, I'm really struggling to get up in the mornings.
