Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

All done! 13.1 miles. 2 hours 26 minutes and 13 seconds!
So pleased I was under 2h30m. I did have to walk a few bits as my IT band was quite sore but I'm so pleased I finished it!
Thank you for all the well wishes and advice. What do I do now?! Grin

Well done and glad you enjoyed it.
Now you lounge in the bath with a glass of wine whilst planning your next one Wink

RocketPockets · 07/10/2018 16:09

IRun that sounds like the best suggestion I've had Grin

IrvinaYalom · 07/10/2018 16:29

Well done Rocket, that's super. I hope you reward yourself suitably with whatever lovely indulgent things your heart desires.

Feeling proud of myself today because I went out for a run but felt a slight twinge in my leg as I was starting off and rather than powering through- I stopped, turned around and walked home! I keep assuring everyone that I am "listening to my body" and that I'll rest when needed and today I proved to myself that I am (do hope I'm totally pain free tomorrow though...).

So just yesterday's quick 3 to add to finish up the week.

148.1

RocketPockets · 07/10/2018 16:48

Well done Irvina! It can be tough to listen to your body sometimes. I'm going to be off to the physio next week I think!

SkiGirl007 · 07/10/2018 17:02

Anyone else waiting to hear about the London Ballott? I entered when my running was going well but had to have a 5wk break and now back to 5k once a week whilst I re-build with strength training. It’s SO frustrating but I know I need to listen to my body to do it as much injury free as possible. (I’m still cycling & swimming as X training) The longest I ever done is one half in Feb. So I’m nervously optimistic that with 6mths I maybe able to do the training if by miracle I get a place. Worst case scenario is I get a place and superfit injury free hubbie doesn’t Grin

Topsyturvey10 · 07/10/2018 17:02

Thanks you for the welcomes.

Last my 10k is mid November so I've a few weeks yet. I didn't run yesterday (despite putting my kit ready and charging headphones😬) as the rain put me off. It was wetter than an otters pocket here.

I cycled 64 miles on my bike today instead and have ruined my legs. Ho hum. Will try a run tues/wed when I am mobile again🤞

SkiGirl007 · 07/10/2018 17:07

Wow 64m on your bike is pretty good going topsy great cross training. I did go running in the rain yesterday only 6k but it reminded me why I like winter running it’s far nicer being cooler Grin maybe I’m bit odd but really didn’t enjoy running in the hot summer. It wasn’t heavy rain though more drizzle with odd heavy bits.

LastOneDancing · 07/10/2018 17:56

Great work Rocket! You must be buzzing this evening!

I've GOT to go for a run today, it'll be my last chance before Wednesday, but I'm very just had a massive toast dinner & cake, so it will be my first dark run of the season once that's gone down Grin. By writing it here, I'm hoping it will mean I can't procrastinate my way out of it Grin

RocketPockets · 07/10/2018 18:02

Skigirl I am also waiting to hear from the ballot for London but I'm hoping I don't get in as after today I don't think I'd be able to do a full marathon! Will give it a good go if I do get in though!

Thank you for all the well dones I really do appreciate them! I'm currently relaxing on the sofa after eating a carby dinner Smile

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 07/10/2018 19:39

I am doing my first half marathon next week and I am having last minute panics. I am doubting myself because I can only run the first six miles then I have to run/walk the rest and I think it will take me four hours which I am highly embarrassed about.

How do you get past these feelings and enjoy it?

AuntieStella · 07/10/2018 20:06

Basically, what you do now is wallow for a few weeks saying 'never again' and 'I'm glad that's over'

Then you book something for 3-6 months time.

FATEdestiny · 07/10/2018 20:52

What do I do now?!

The day after my first 13.1 mile run I went out to do "a sedate 5k" just to keep moving and with no pressure.

Without any effort whatsoever I managed a PB time without even realising during the run. It's like the HM gave me super powers!

I always tend to get a really fast 5k time in the immediate run after a long distance. No idea why, every time I plan the opposite!

LastOneDancing · 07/10/2018 22:41

staying alive it's my first half next weekend too. I'm planning to stop & stretch every 3 miles and to set no time expectations in an effort to enjoy it. There will be lots run-walking the whole course, so I'm feeling secure that I won't be last!

A glorious 4 miles tonight! I forgot how much I enjoy running in the dark. It's so much cooler, I was really comfortable and found myself coasting towards the end. Lovely.

RocketPockets · 08/10/2018 08:26

Any tips for IT band pain?! I'm really suffering today and can barely walk as my knee is hurting so bad. Definitely no running for me for the next few days!

Barbayagar · 08/10/2018 08:50

PB in my half yesterday....1:43, so pleased with that! I didn't think I would do anything near that time as I've been suffering from shin pain in the last couple of weeks.

However, I can completely recommend taking a tablespoon of turmeric powder with some black pepper in water (it's anti-inflammatory). It tastes absolutely vile but 2 days of that seems to have completely eradicated any leg pain. It seems too much to be a coincidence.

AnotherOtter · 08/10/2018 09:59

Great job on the half marathons Rocket and Barbayarga! You both have done so well. Be careful with the turmeric as it has a laxative affect with some people. Well done on your 5k pb, emummy. Have a great time in Spain.

13.5 miles over three easy runs plus a tempo 5k for me over the last week. Gradually getting my mileage up again after my break.

Interesting discussions about winter running clothes. Does anyone have a link to the Decathlon sleeves, please? I am only getting rifle sleeves and fishing rod sleeves when I search.

BusterTheBulldog · 08/10/2018 10:24

Well done on your HMs rocket and barbayarga!

I’ve got one on sun, hoping it will go better than GNR!

Got a park run Pb on sat and nice long steady run last night.

SkiGirl007 · 08/10/2018 10:40

Well hubbie didn’t get a London place his magazine just arrived (he asked me to open it) but mine has t yet...

Just ran my longest since mid-July a 10k Smile I set off to do 6k and felt strong so kept going, alas my watch didn’t and super frustratingly it’s battey died at 9k but I know the last road home is a km. it was a slow & steady run and I can feel my strength training starting to pay off now I really hope it gives me more stability as I increase the distance again.

Foam rolling really helps tight IT band, it can feel painful doing it but do it super slowly and it really does help.

emummy · 08/10/2018 11:33

AnotherOtter you might find them in the cycling section.

FATEdestiny · 08/10/2018 11:54

These are the decathlon sleeves I got:

www.decathlon.co.uk/arm-cover-id_8368933.html

The improved weather really caught me out this morning. Went out with the plan to do 16km dressed for a winter run: vest, sleeves, long leggings, zip up jacket, head/sweat band. Got absolutely boiling and couldn't seem to cool down (I also think I'm not very well, which doesn't help). So far more walk breaks that usual and cut it short to 12km.

Im going back to 3/4 leg lightweight tights for a while.

AnotherOtter · 08/10/2018 13:54

Thanks, FATE.

BusterTheBulldog · 08/10/2018 17:07

I’ve got a London Marathon ballot place!!!!!!! Argh!!

Also, 4 easy miles at lunch.

Barbayagar · 08/10/2018 17:16

Oh Buster I'm very jealous!

IrvinaYalom · 08/10/2018 17:23

Congrats Buster, that's tremendously exciting. Apologies if you've said before but is this your first time?
