A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

@emummy hope the half goes well!

emummy · 01/06/2018 10:14

Thanks all. Fingers crossed the weather will behave - current forecast is 16-18 and cloudy. They promise a fabulous goody bag, plus food & drink for all afterwards, all for a whole £20! Looking forward to it.

LadyLance · 02/06/2018 19:50

Have a good one tomorrow @emummy, sounds like it will be a great event.

After Thursday's issues, I've had a great couple of days. Friday did 1.8 miles as part of a gym session- tried to work on speed and ran at a fast-ish pace for me- plus did 50 minutes of mixed cardio (I normally do 30-40 minutes including weights) and felt really good.

Today, ran 8 miles for my long run of the week! Miles 1-4 actually felt pretty good 4-5 was mostly uphill but ok. 5-6 I pushed a bit hard going down some steep-ish hills and felt it afterwards. I then lost the breeze and the shade and hit some steep uphill sections, so the last two miles were a bit of a struggle (I'd also run out of water)- but I finished, ran at a decent pace and felt really positive most of the way around!

Well done everyone and good luck emummy.

Ive done 3 runs this week and my hip has been niggly but no pain, so will keep to 5k for a while before trying to go further. I'm keeping the pace slow too.

Great running LadyLance. Glad you are able to get back out nbee, hope it continues to improve.
Well that was a tough run today! 18 degrees and bright sunshine at the start, don't know the temp by the end but over 20 I think. Combined with big hills, wow! On the plus side, beautiful countryside to run through, friendly marshals, helpers, runners and walkers, nice medal and goody bag and a very impressive spread of food afterwards, even including gluten free food so I could eat something. Very impressed! My second slowest of all my halfs, but I am not bothered about that, am really pleased to have finished and very much enjoyed my trip to MacDonalds on the way home!

Well done emummy Sounds like you did well to finish in tough conditions! It sounds like a really great event as well.

LadyLance · 05/06/2018 17:57

Where has everyone gone? Hope everyone is doing ok!

2.5 miles yesterday, struggled in the heat a bit.

6.8 today, ran one loop of the Half I'm signed up for in June. Although it's a bit up and down in places, there's only one real hill and there are lots of nice flat sections. A lot of it is right along the sea front as well, so shouldn't get too hot. Feeling a lot more confident now!

As usual, we haven't restarted for June, my fault I think!

I make our current June total 40.9.

emummy · 05/06/2018 20:09

Is ot just you & me LadyLance?! There are a few people off on holiday I think. Sounds like the half will be good, with a nice sea breeze.
I had to run this evening as ds had his school sports day this morning. So interval session in the lovely evening sun with a nice breeze. Legs have recovered well from Sunday's fun thankfully. Less than 4 weeks to go so next week the taper starts, hurray!

LadyLance · 05/06/2018 21:46

Glad you're recovering well emummy. Yes, I think we have a few holidays this week, hopefully we haven't scared everyone off!

BusterTheBulldog · 06/06/2018 15:13

Well done on the HM emummy, sounds tough!

7 so far from me on hols. Mykonos is crazily hilly, strava is recording the runs as hill sessions rather than runs!

emummy · 07/06/2018 10:25

You're going to be super fit running all those hills Buster! Hope you enjoy the holiday.
Easy run in the sunshine this morning, trying to relax ahead of OU exam this afternoon.

emummy · 07/06/2018 10:34

Sorry total should be 66!

BusterTheBulldog · 07/06/2018 21:48

Hope you’re exam went well emummy, you are hardcore with exams and HMs at the mo!

I would like to think I’d be super fit, but is suspect the wine, bread, pasta and fried cheese is preventing this Wink.

Another brutal 4

BusterTheBulldog · 07/06/2018 21:49

Argh!! Your, I meant your!!!

emummy · 08/06/2018 12:06

Thanks Buster, it's been quite a month! Just the marathon to get through now...
I'm sure that sort of diet is excellent for running, especially the fried cheese!
Great run today, tempo session in the forest. Beautiful sunshine, trees, flowers, birds, river, perfect! Feeling very happy, maybe related to the exam being done!

LadyLance · 08/06/2018 17:28

Hope the exam went well emummy

Hope you're having a good holiday Buster

9 miles today in the gym, feeling pretty good up to about 6 miles in, the last three were pretty tough but it all felt ok and doable. Feeling like I'm making progress with training which is good.

Rest day tomorrow, and then hopefully 5 miles on Sunday.

nbee84 · 09/06/2018 21:18

I'm in awe at the distances some of you are covering. Hope I can build up to run further and regularly. I'm feeling hopeful as I've done a couple of short runs this week and, fingers crossed, my hip feels fine now Grin Planning on a 5k tomorrow morning.

89

emummy · 10/06/2018 11:22

I hope your hip is fine today nbee.
Last of the long long runs today, 18 miles on a nice route with different surfaces and surroundings. Misty and cool, perfect running weather! Now it's taper time, which I love!

nbee84 · 10/06/2018 11:36

Wow, 18 miles! I ran 4 today and really enjoyed it. Hip no bother at all. Ran early and the sun was out but wasn't too hot 😎

nbee84 · 10/06/2018 11:41

emummy - how long does 18 miles take you?

emummy · 10/06/2018 12:07

So glad your hip behaved nbee. It took me 3hr20 today at easy pace with lots of hills! Happy with that, I hope to go to a little faster in the race, but we'll see!

nbee84 · 10/06/2018 15:13

Well impressed - I'm sure you'll do great in the race. Good luck x

LadyLance · 11/06/2018 14:31

Glad your hip is getting better nbee

Sounds like you're doing great emummy

I've been struggling a bit in the heat/humidity this weekend and I'm pretty sure that my mega hangover on Saturday didn't help much.

Managed 5.8 miles between Sunday and today- a little less than I would have liked. Gym session tomorrow and then hopefully some better running on Wednesday- I'm going to try and get up early and go when it's cool.

emummy · 12/06/2018 11:55

Heat and hangover aren't a good combination LadyLance, am impressed you managed to do anything!
Fartlek session on the hilly forest trails today, good fun.

I've been off this thread for ages but really trying to ramp up my running now as have my first ever half marathon booked for October (Royal Parks - anyone else in?)

Did my longest ever run today!! - 14km / 8.7miles. Took it slow but wow I'm tired now. Would love to hear from others who have increased their distance - if I do a long run every week will it feel easier and were you able to up the mileage further? Felt at my limit today!
