A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Thank you emummy I have been trying to do a bit of research but keep seeing so many reviews good and bad - hard to pick!

emummy · 18/04/2018 21:15

Dc Rainmaker's website is good for reviews

Justusfornow · 18/04/2018 21:31

Thank you I'll try that - I think it's looking like I might have to go up on my budget a bit to try get a good one! Looking around £150 now I would say

emummy · 19/04/2018 11:41

Lovely warm sunny forest run today, although had to stop lots - the nice weather brought everyone out! Dogs, horses, big groups of people...never mind! Next run is the Balmoral 10k on Saturday, so instead of running on Sunday I'll be watching London and reliving memories of last year!

I take it you did it last year emummy? Wow! Well done!! Was it an amazing experience? I genuinely can’t inagine getting to 16 miles and the. Still having 10 to go!

Good luck for Sat too Smile

3 miles at lunch today, I got massively distracted by taking pics as the sun was out though! Grin

It was amazing Buster! Not always fun, but my overall memories of it are great. Definitely my favourite medal! Glad you enjoyed your sunny run.

Oops! Didn't mean to post it twice, pesky phone!

JustGettingStarted · 19/04/2018 14:59

I have a convenient 2km loop from my house (no busy roads to cross, mostly level). I tried to get out while it was still only 15 degrees. I put a bottle of water on my porch and stopped for a sip when I passed the house. I added a few bits on side streets and made it an even 7k.

I'm still very slow and plodding.

LadyLance · 20/04/2018 12:46

7k is great Justgettingstarted I also have a 2k route around my block which is great for laps but unfortunately it's pretty hilly. I tell myself all the hill running is good for me!

Good luck for Saturday emummy I am also in total awe of people who run marathons.

Glad everyone is enjoying runs in the sunshine. I did six miles today in the gym as I'm super pale and managed to catch the sun yesterday (plus the treadmill is flat).

I'm not worried about it - I don't exercise to lose weight - but I have lost no weight at all since I started running 4x a week (roughly 3.5 hours a week).

I am clearly eating to compensate. I have noticed an increased craving for carbs.

BusterTheBulldog · 20/04/2018 21:24

5 from me tonight, I’m still not 100%, couldn’t catch my breath today-annoying!

It is frustrating Buster but you'll get there. My bad cold really hung around this year!
RunBalmoral done, not a pb but a course best so that will do! Very warm & beautiful sunshine, unlike the previous 2 year's worth of snow. Hilly course so it was never going to be fast, happy with how it went. And another nice medal!

Well done emummy! Sounds lovely.

mayathebee · 21/04/2018 22:48

5 miles from me tonight. I ran the first 5k at my usual 5k pace - I usually want to collapse after that but I wanted to see whether I could carry on. When I've managed to run further I've always done the whole run slowly. My legs ache now but I think the breathing is getting easier. 5 weeks until Edinburgh 10k.

Well done emummy, that sounds like a lovely course but running hills in the heat Shock.

Buster - I hope you are back to 100% soon

Started - I've been on SW for a few weeks and thought that running might boost the weight loss but it's slowed down. I'm not worried as I'd rather lose slowly and get fit but it's odd.

Lance - I'm very pale too and suffer in the heat. I foresee a lot of late evening running over the summer Grin

Iamblossom · 23/04/2018 11:54

morning all. I bob on here from time to time. Smile Had a great run in the cool this morning, sun was out, new route down country lanes.

I hate the first 10ish minutes of any run pretty much, but then I find my breathing gets better and i get into a rhythm.

Managed 9km.

Thank you maya got some antibiotics today 💃 so fingers crossedSmile

I agree iamblossom, ideally i start down hill to ease me in!

Iamblossom · 24/04/2018 08:48

buster doesn't that mean you finish uphill? ShockShockShock

BusterTheBulldog · 24/04/2018 09:30

Yes, it sadly does Smile. 3 directions to get back to my house involve uphill and the 4th is flatter but I don’t like it. I plan my routes to finish at bottom of hill though, and use the hill walk as ‘cool down’ Wink

emummy · 24/04/2018 11:47

The first bit of a run is always the hardest for me too, takes at least a mile for me to feel better!
Intervals today, nice sunny day again. Hard work up & down the hills but we survived (me and dog that is!). Upping the mileage again this week after last week's rest, so looking forward to 18 on Sunday.
Hope those antibiotics kick in soon Buster.
Hope you have lots more nice sunny runs Iamblossom

Ugh had a bit of a rubbish one today, planning to run 3 miles but got about 20 mins in and just felt really sick, retched for a while and nothing came up so did some weight training after. Wasn't a complete loss but a bit worrying!

Hope everyone else is doing more than me. We'll need a new thread soon!

LadyLance · 24/04/2018 13:41

Well done emummy on your run and course best btw!

Iamblossom · 25/04/2018 07:13

Ew lady sounds horrid hope you are ok.

Going to gym this morning and next run planned for Friday, aiming for 10km.

limesoda · 25/04/2018 14:22

Lots of running happening, amazing. I am mostly discovering that my new house is in a way hillier area than I thought and runs need a bit more planning.

I managed parkrun on Saturday, which was ace. I was slow but finished with only minor running, and made some new chums (one who encouraged me, one who I encouraged) which is always nice.

Hopefully I make it out tonight. Its bypassing the sofa and getting the trainers on ASAP that is the hardest part (well, that and those first 10 minutes).
