A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Nearly 4 miles of a 4:1 run:walk combo. It's good to be back running 🏃‍♀️ Smile

Sadly, I had to nope on my trail run today and only did ten miles. It was lots hotter than predicted and just look at this trail (this was a good bit!) it was bloody hard to run through!

I'll try it again during a run of good weather.

Evening run as it's school holidays. Good interval session in rain.
Well done MyBlackCat!

Another 5 km today. My legs are really tired and I have a feeling I'm going to regret booking a family session at the trampoline park for tomorrow morning.

7.3 from me at club run tonight. First proper muddy trail run in a while, it was brutal! Done though.

Enjoy Wales ladylance sounds lovely.

I innocently went to one of those trampoline parks as a ‘fun auntie’. Nearly killed me! Good luck mayathebee

Could be interesting maya! Good luck! And well done for getting out

emummy · 04/04/2018 20:24

Recovery run tonight. A couple of snow showers then the most beautiful sunset to cheer me up. Not especially enjoying this evening running though, looking forward to getting out in the mornings again. And tomorrow is boot camp, could be painful!

The sunset sounds lovely emummy. It's been bucketing down and dark all day here. Strangely I dislike morning runs - I always feel shaky and a bit sick. I love running in the evening so I'm glad it's lighter until a bit later now.

Well I survived trampolining (although I'm aching now) and signed up to Strava to help keep me motivated. I like seeing my runs. I'm planning a quick, short run tomorrow morning before heading to a friend's with the DC for a couple of days then I have a 5k race on Sunday.

mayathebee · 05/04/2018 08:03

A quick 2 miles this morning just to keep my legs moving. Off to a friends for a couple of days now.

Mayathebee I find Strava really motivating- I like seeing my stats and being able to look back at how I've improved.

Sounds like we have had the full range of weather on this thread- It's sunny here but still very muddy in places.

Sprints in the gym today plus some strength training. Long run tomorrow morning- aiming for about 6 miles if I can (I know that's a short run to a lot of you!)

Good run tonight, really pleased as my last run I felt a bit flat. Tonight was 2 miles easy, 7 miles tempo, 1 mile easy and I did it! Doubted myself at the start but it went well. Now for a hot shower and pizza!

Beautiful sunny morning run. Nice mix of town, forest and riverside. Legs a bit weary but survived!

I volunteered at junior park run this morning then ran the Resolution 5k. I feel a bit embarrassed also posting "Legs a bit weary but survived!" when I am running so much less then you emummy but that sums it up pretty accurately. New pb of 35:52 so still not fast but getting a bit less slow. More importantly I'm starting to enjoy it and feel a bit more confident about keeping it up.

Half marathon done today! Lovely small, friendly one. Really enjoyed it. I do seem to get the demon voices on ‘races’ though, 8.5-11.5 just felt like quitting! I regularly run that length or further though so why is that?! It’s like I can’t deal with the concept of having to continue.

Hey Ho. I think more time on feet running is prob answer!

PB of 1:54 though, I’m well chuffed, my broad aim was under 2hours-interval sessions are definitely working!

emummy · 08/04/2018 20:27

Great pb maya, well done!
What a time Buster! I always find miles 9-11 of a half the hardest, don't know what it is!

BusterTheBulldog · 08/04/2018 20:49

Thanks emummy, Grin I’m really glad you said that too! Was a massive mental block, even though I was telling myself ‘3 and a bit, 2 and a bit etc’, urgh, practise I guess?

LadyLance · 10/04/2018 12:53

Well done Buster That's a super impressive time!

Well done Maya, I think anything under 40 mins for 5k is very respectable!

Glad you're having some good runs emummy

2.6 in the gym today, recovering from spending all weekend riding! aiming for 5k tomorrow (hopefully outside in the forecasted nice weather!) and then getting back on track with my training plan! Running in April so far has felt like a struggle, but I'm full of motivation again today and started taking Iron tablets which will hopefully help!

emummy · 10/04/2018 20:02

Hope those tablets make a difference LadyLance.
Very wet interval session tonight while ds was getting soaked at athletics training!

BusterTheBulldog · 10/04/2018 21:41

Thanks LadyLance! How was your riding trip?

6.7 at run club from me. Really felt it from Sun.

LadyLance · 11/04/2018 12:12

4 miles ish today (gps on strava wasn't working that well!) Felt good for at least the first two miles which was good, definitely felt it on the hills coming back though! Nice to run in the sun though!

Buster it was great fun, thank you for asking. I had a lovely welsh D to ride and amazing scenery up in the brecon beacons. Lovely group of ladies to ride with as well!

emummy I'm hoping so too. I did have anemia as a teen so I'm pretty sure they will do something :) hope you have better weather today!

mayathebee · 11/04/2018 20:57

Managed another 5k today and another pb - 34:50.

I'm pleased I'm getting a bit faster but every run is still pretty tough and I feel like giving up half way through. I'm not sure whether I should slow down a bit but I have the Edinburgh 10k in May and I'm worried that there is a 90 min course limit. I'd manage that on a flat course but this one looks really hilly so I feel as though I need to get quicker as well as building up the miles. Any advice?

133.4

LadyLance · 12/04/2018 12:57

Well done maya Remember if your 10k is hilly there will be some downhills too!

I ran 10k/6.1 miles on the treadmill today, longest distance I've managed so far. It actually got easier as I went along and found my rhythm although the last 15 mins were a killer!

Rest day tomorrow then planning to get some miles in at the weekend.

139.5

mayathebee · 12/04/2018 13:22

Thanks Ladylance and well done on the 10k!

I'm following a plan for the 10k and I'm hoping the downhills will make up for the slow uphill plods but I'm having nightmares of being chased up Arthurs Seat by the bus. If you fall behind the bus you have to get on (or you can run on grass but get a dnf).

sayhellotothelittlefella · 12/04/2018 17:19

Hi all. Not been on here for ages. Haven’t done too much running in March since my HM was cancelled last month but have got going again in April. Mostly on treadmills and shorter distances due to agonising itb issues that no end of rest, orthotics, physio or anti-inflammatory could resolve. Just me I guess. I’m thinking I might stick to 10 and under for now and have spotted one in May I like the look of. 16.7 miles for me so far this month so
156.2

LadyLance · 12/04/2018 19:36

maya Do you actually have to run up Arthur's seat? I think I'd die! Can you practice the route (or some of it?) before the day and reassure yourself? Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon to help!
