Shiny new thread!

Hope you're feeling ok now Tri.

I'm using up holiday today & went to the pool again. 350m (ok with brief breaks each time I reached a wall!) and for the first time since school, daring the deep end. Thanks for the video tip.

Scenic 10k planned for tomorrow.

It was a good prog I enjoyed it but DH refuses to watch as he find Mr Mosley annoying.
Short half hr run this morning followed by swim today as I like to relax swimming after running it really helps my legs be less sore. I only go because my DD has to be dropped off at 9am for her activity and since I’ve dragged my tired body out early on a sat morn I might as well make the most of the quiet time Grin

SkiGirl007 · 12/02/2018 21:42

Sunday First HM done Grin sore achy and shattered today though! Who would have thought 14mths after completing the C25k app I’d be doing that! Not me Smile

Hope everyone else’s running is going ok in the cold and windy weather.

shortaris1 · 14/02/2018 22:01

Oh well done Ski that's amazing. I'm regularly doing slow 5ks again after all my injuries and really enjoying it.

MyRunMyPace · 14/02/2018 22:21

Well done Ski, that's great 🙂🏃🏽‍♀️!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 14/02/2018 22:36

Wow, congratulations Ski! And that's great, Shortaris.

I'm sticking with my two 8ks a week at the moment - IF it's not icy or raining.

SkiGirl007 · 15/02/2018 14:35

Thanks and well done on all of us still running in the wet and windy winter Smile
I did a slow 5.5k last night to try get my legs moving as still sore hips, I think it’s helped...will try do a 10k on Saturday to stay on track.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 25/05/2018 13:28

Hello!

Anyone still around? I know it's been a while but I'm resurrecting the thread to note that Alexandra Heminsley, who wrote Running Like A Girl and Leap In, is doing a webchat:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/3258137-How-open-water-swimming-helped-me-survive-IVF-Join-our-webchat-with-author-and-outdoor-swimmer-Alexandra-Heminsley-Wednesday-30-May-9pm

And I've applied to do a half-marathon in March. Eek.

Bodear · 27/05/2018 13:04

Hey, I’d like to resurrect the thread too! I’ve really starting to enjoy running recently so have been increasing my distance and I’m up 9.5 miles (had to walk a tiny bit). It’d be great to have some fellow runners to chat to. Do you take water with you, or is that just for longer distances?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 28/05/2018 09:34

Hello Bodear!

9.5 miles? Wow. My longest so far is 7.5 miles / 12 k but that was last summer - I'm working back up slowly!

I've never carried water so far but I can see I might need to as my distances get longer.

Sammysquiz · 28/05/2018 10:18

I hate carrying water, but if I’m doing more than about 7km in the summer I usually need to.

Bodear · 28/05/2018 15:06

Hey, thanks for replying. 7.5 miles is good! I’ve not done many at 9.5 miles (just the one in fact Grin). I’m finding the whole water/ energy gels all a bit confusing. Running in the heat is so much harder I find.

Mildpanic · 28/05/2018 15:55

Ohh, can I join in?
I am a newbie to running. Finished couch to 5 last July and have been doing 5k about 3 times per week since. Upped to 8k which I have now done 4 times with 5k’s in between.
I did my first Parkrun on Sat and shaved 2 mins off my PB. This morning I struggled a bit with 5k but was on a really rocky beach.
How have you lot upped the distance? I have my first 10K next month and i’m a bit apprehensive.
I have looked at some of the interval training apps but don’t have time or patience for 5min walks to start and finish.

Bodear · 28/05/2018 18:48

Hey Mild! I don’t think this is very scientific but when I’d been doing 5k for a little while one of my friends (super fit, marathon runner) told me, nicely, that I could definitely run further. So I did. I ran 7km a few times and then 10k a few times with shorter runs in between. I’m not very fast at all; 10k takes me about 1 hr 11m. But I think it’s about running regularly and then mindset. I bet you’ll be absolutely fine with the 10k. Let us know how it goes though.

shortaris1 · 09/06/2018 23:35

Hi! Empress it's so good to see the thread.

I'm still plodding away and doing a 10k race tomorrow. I find it really hard running in the heat so do take water with me, although its a pain to carry. I also use an electrolyte tablet for 10k distance. Without it i feel almost hungover with dehydration. Not nice! I'm a very salty sweater.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 09/06/2018 23:40

Hello Shortaris!

Good luck for tomorrow. I did a 10k along the Thames today, lovely but I was sweltering by the end of it - dived into a pub & downed a pint of orange juice in 2 gulps.

Electrolyte tablets sound like a good idea.

shortaris1 · 11/06/2018 07:30

Sounds hot Empress Not too bad yesterday but so glad I had my electrolytes in water with me. Nearly 6 minutes faster than last year!

EmpressOfSpartacus · 11/06/2018 07:59

6 minutes faster is amazing, Shortaris!
What electrolyte tablets do you use? Do you have to have water with them?

I'm waiting to hear whether I've got a place on the London Landmarks half marathon in March. I think for now I'm going to do a 5k & a longer run every week, try upping the longer one up by 500m each time & see how that goes.

shortaris1 · 16/06/2018 15:00

Good plan Empress I use dissolving tablets yes, think its the SIS ones. They're from Sports Direct.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 18/06/2018 21:14

Thanks Shortaris, I'll have a look. I'm signed up for one in November now (eek!) so doing an extra k every week instead - 11 yesterday. My thighs were telling me all about it today!

shortaris1 · 19/06/2018 19:45

Good for you. I got back out and did 2 miles last night. I'm going to win for 10k at the weekend.

SkiGirl007 · 29/09/2018 20:49

Hellooo just spotted the thread. How’s the HM training going Empress? How’s the running injury short?

I was building back up nicely got upto 8mile run in mid-July then flipping Sciatica kicked in again and massively impacted my running again Sad kept up the swimming & cycling but only really doing 5k once a week. I’ve signed up for the same HM again in Feb so fingersXed I can build up the running again soon as really missing it.
