Shiny new thread!

Hope you're feeling ok now Tri.

I'm using up holiday today & went to the pool again. 350m (ok with brief breaks each time I reached a wall!) and for the first time since school, daring the deep end. Thanks for the video tip.

Scenic 10k planned for tomorrow.

What are you trying onestep?

I did a speed intervals session today then had a swim. I used the NHS podcast speed again, I need to do it more often as I’ve been focusing on long slow runs and neglecting doing fast shorter sessions. It’s only 6x1min sprints but I’m puffing hard with fatigue at the end of the sprints Smile.

I’m trying to increase my overall weekly total to 25k a week but spread it out over 3runs. But I’ve learnt not to do the really long run every week so I’m aiming every other week at the moment for a single 15-17k run, then a couple 5ks.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/01/2018 22:09

I'm still doing 3 6ks a week into work. A bit more of that & then I'll up them to 7k.

Ski, I've been running with other people, trying trail running, and entering races 😄. I really need to do the NHS Speed podcast again - it's brutal, but effective.

SkiGirl007 · 09/01/2018 21:22

Ooh trail running one that sounds fun, my DH does a bit and really enjoys it. I’ve been thinking about trying out paths around us.

Sounds like you are doing well empress glad your commuting runs are going well.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 09/01/2018 21:53

Sounds like everyone's doing well! Trail running does sound like fun, but the speed podcast sounds a bit nerve-wracking.

I'm running in my brightest pink stuff at the moment to cheer myself up on the gloomy mornings Grin.

I ended up diverting a bit this morning & hitting 7k anyway so I think I'm just going to make it my norm now. Running through the parks is so much nicer than being crammed in the tube.

So far this year I’ve run 23.5km. Tonight I went to run club and did a steady 5.6km. Tempted by a 3rd lap of our winter course but I was very tired and hungry after a long busy day.

SkiGirl007 · 11/01/2018 11:36

Like the idea of the pink clothes to brighten your day empress mine is bright yellow top Grin How’s the swimming going?
I tried out some shoe lights that slide onto your heel but they fell off after 2k and ended up with it around my wrist. Can’t believe they would stay put on your heels on any kind of terrain run!
Sounds like you doing well fizzy it’s hard to get motivated when it’s grey days. I actually left work early yesterday as it was sunny ere and I was craving light but by the time I got out it was dusk but I still enjoyed getting some fresh air.

I’m logging my kms on the 1000km challenge thread but I’m up to 44k so far in Jan, over 5runs. I’m mainly hoping I can keep bug /injury free & healthy with SO many viruses about!

Fizzyknickers · 11/01/2018 12:03

I’m not very girly so no pink here but I wear the most hideous design leggings I can get my hands on. It’s a bit of a running joke at the gym/run club now Grin makes me smile!

SkiGirl007 · 14/01/2018 14:07

Not run for 4d now and doubt I’ll be out in the next week much been stuck on sofa with head cold Sad last few days. It could be a lot worse as I’ve had family knocked out for wks with the nasty flu doing the rounds so I’m counting myself luckily it’s just a cold at the mo!
How’s everyone else doing? Anyone doing the RED challenge

OneMoStep · 14/01/2018 19:38

I did 5k today - it was chilly out there! I'm really fed up with it being winter though, and it still being dark before and after work.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 14/01/2018 19:50

Poor you Ski! The swimming's going ok thanks.

It's meant to be pouring here tomorrow morning so I think I'm going to run Tuesday instead. Can't wait for the lighter mornings!

shortaris1 · 14/01/2018 20:41

I'm doing RED Ski but not running every day due to all the injuries last year. Doing something every day though and have run 3 times this week. Only a mile at a time though, need to build distance again. Hope the horrible cold goes.

Running to work is a great plan Empress I live really close to work so not a option here!

SkiGirl007 · 22/01/2018 17:36

Finally off sick bench and got out for a run today. Set off for half hr and stayed out for gd 10k which was good Smile as I really need to get some miles back in the legs before my HM in 3wks..eek

SkiGirl007 · 27/01/2018 19:26

Did another couple of 5ks this week but still struggling abit with the bug that won’t go away grrrr. Hope everyone is still feeling healthy as it feels like most of our team at work has been off at some point in Jan with bugs. Hoping to get a long two hour training run in on Monday if the weather isn’t too bad.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/01/2018 05:05

Same for our team, Ski! Hope it goes away soon.

How's everyone doing? Lovely run in this morning - snowdrops are out & made me smile.

From 5 to 10k & onwards
SkiGirl007 · 31/01/2018 07:47

Ooh snowdrops wow not seen any around here but the bulbs are poking up nicely in the garden Smile makes gloomy Jan look better. Well done on your run empress.

I did looong run Monday 12m, my longest yet & I nearly zonked out as hadnt drunk enough & temperature rose higher than I thought it would. Another lesson learnt, luckily I diverted past a shop that I knew took cards for a small transaction and grabbed a bottle of water to get me home the last 2m. I’m on 2wk taper now till my first HMGrin I know now I can do it but I’m gonna be shattered after!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 31/01/2018 08:15

12 miles - that's seriously impressive, Ski! Congratulations!

shortaris1 · 31/01/2018 20:43

Ooh well done Ski

I've finished Red January. Did something every day and 3 short runs a week. 20 miles for the month. Will build on that now. Had to do that through snow and ice at times so really proud I did it!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 31/01/2018 21:09

Good on you Shortaris!

SkiGirl007 · 31/01/2018 21:49

Thanks empress and well done shortaris I think it’s really hard to run every day I couldn’t do it my joints need a rest in between.

Anyone watch bbc 1 tonight “getting fit” prog was interesting watch about runners high! I squeezed in 5k tonight after work & before DH went out. Involved a 6min quick change after I got home late from work Grin

shortaris1 · 31/01/2018 22:23

I did Ski No way could I have ran every day either. I did Bodybalance, Bodycombat, yoga, circuits, weightlifting, Metafit and walking as well as my runs.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 01/02/2018 08:47

Might watch that on catchup tonight, thanks Ski!

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 02/02/2018 08:41

I watched the programme last night, very interesting. Especially the bit about running being good for knee cartilage.

Just cooling down from my morning 8k & I love the thought that what I'm feeling right now is like a cannabis high without the downsides!

shortaris1 · 03/02/2018 18:32

Lol I watched too and loved it. No running today. I feel quite lazy!
