30 Day Shred... anyone want to join me?

toastedbeagle · 16/05/2017 12:49

I started in Feb and managed 25 days or so but got a stinking cold and my whole health kick went down the drain. Think 8lbs heavier now Shock

I started yesterday with Day 1 Level 1 and determined to keep up with it.

I've also started playing tennis again and I'm determined that by my hols in 7 weeks I will be fitting back in my size 12 clothes.

Anyone want to join in with some daily motivation?

I've taken measurements and photos too soup

clearsommespace · 25/06/2017 11:16

Well done for getting back on board brassicababe.
Level 3 day 2 done.
Ironorchid I'm not sure you are supposed to drop weights just to avoid the grunting/swearing. Grin
I know I am not strong enough to do the V raises with 2kg and proper form, no how much cursing! When I've finished the 30 day program, I am planning to go back and try with my 500g wrist weights and 1kg dumbells.

SoupDragon · 25/06/2017 12:01

L1 D9 after a day off to visit my parents yesterday and eat FAR too much :o

IronOrchid · 25/06/2017 13:41

You're spot on, Clear - my form with 2kgs on the V raises was shite! Plus I had to keep giving up on my arms and just squat with weights hanging by my sides. 1kgs are suiting me much better right now. Much less effin' too Grin

L2 D10 done. Can't believe I've made it to L3 - this is my third attempt at the Shred so here's hoping the old adage is right Grin

BrassicaBabe · 25/06/2017 19:56

L1 D5 done

Think I need to upgrade my 1kg weights Shock

clearsommespace · 26/06/2017 06:32

It's great to feel yourself getting stronger, isn't it?
Level 3, day 3 complete.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2017 14:06

I have never bothered with photos or weight before because it was all about how I felt. I always felt far far better, stronger and fitter having done it and that made me feel good. If I actually looked better too, that would be a bonus! I took the photos this time to see how much of a visible difference it makes. I need to excavate the garage and see if my ancient heavier weights are in there.

I might have to skip today as I've been doing heavy gardening today - clearing brambles, sawing branches and repairing a fence. I'm knackered! But less knackered than I would have been without 9 days of shred behind me :)

clearsommespace · 27/06/2017 07:11

L3 day 4 complete.
I too am in this mostly for the fitness/strength side of things but I know from doing it a few years back it will help me slim down a little. (As a result of having to rest my ankle in early spring but eating the same amount as usual means some of my summer clothes are too tight. Sad )

SoupDragon · 27/06/2017 07:48

I did have to skip yesterday because I strained my back doing the garden. I'm not convinced it will be OK today either. I might give it a go and give up if necessary.

SoupDragon · 27/06/2017 11:35

L1 D10! Whoop! Interestingly, the exercises that made my back twinge were the cardio ones, not the abs.

clearsommespace · 27/06/2017 15:43

Well done! Be careful though. No point in risking a long term back problem.

IronOrchid · 27/06/2017 15:49

L3 D1 done.

Good gravy - that was hard! Sweat drip-dripping off my nose on that plank w/weights+kick move, and I was doing the modified version.

Really can't get the hang of jumping lunges either. Can't shake feeling that my knees will get buggered up from them. Thank heavens for Anita.

Off for a shower now, and perhaps a gentle weep...

SoupDragon · 27/06/2017 16:51

Oh, there are no worries about my back - it's already a long standing back problem! It's been great for the last year or so (perhaps due to
Shredding rediscovering my core muscles!) and I'm always aware of the things that are "risky". The swivel jumpy things in L2 cardio are something I always do fairly slowly and carefully and I am wary of any plank exercises.

BrassicaBabe · 27/06/2017 21:37

L1D7 done today.

Sabotaging my works though with massive carb cravings! Angry

clearsommespace · 28/06/2017 09:32

Level 3 Day 5 complete.
Ironorchid I like those leg raises (odd) but the first time I could really feel it in my bottom the next day!

IronOrchid · 28/06/2017 15:57

L3 D2 done.

Usually workout on carpet, but had to put yoga mat down as forearm/straight arm planks led to some dodgy-looking elbow burns yesterday! Grin

My lower body's really feeling it today, clearsomespace - those kicks, plus jump squats are definitely working my poor thighs.

clearsommespace · 29/06/2017 07:42

Ouch to carpet burns!
Level 3 day 6 done. I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Smile
Although I know I need to keep working out afterwards. However I am planning on cutting down to 3 times a week once I have finished 30 day Shred. ( I am suffering from lack of sleep on some days and keep wanting to fall asleep at my desk!) I plan on doing Killer Buns and Thighs next as DH and I are going on a hiking holiday this summer.

clearsommespace · 30/06/2017 07:37

L3 D7.
First time I didn't have jelly legs at the end of the first lot of rockstar jumps.

IronOrchid · 30/06/2017 14:09

L3 D3 sorted!

Had an impromptu rest day yesterday because work was crazy busy and I didn't have any oomph for Shred.

Plus I may have phoned it in a little today thanks to mild hangover; don't tell Jillian or she'll bench press me.

In happier news, I've lost 5lbs since June 1st. Not been eating brilliantly so more than chuffed with that. Cheers, Shred Grin

SoupDragon · 30/06/2017 15:37

I've had to stop for a while. I'm not sure what I've done but one arm has that weak and pathetic feeling that's not quite cramp all the time. I don't think it will stand up to anything plank like which I think L2 is quite heavy on. I might give it a go later just to see.

TheChippendenSpook · 30/06/2017 15:41

Sorry to hijack your thread!

I did some of the 30 day shred a while ago but the cardio really knackered my knees. Reading your thread had motivated me so I'm going to start doing it again this weekend. I just hope my knees are OK this time.

clearsommespace · 01/07/2017 11:29

I was wondering where you were soup. I hope you arm is better soon.
Good luck spook
Planned rest day for me today. Luckily because I have soooo much to accomplish with deadlines that affect others.

IronOrchid · 01/07/2017 12:35

L3 D4 done.

Hello ChippendenSpook - sending happy vibes to your knees Smile

SoupDragon · 01/07/2017 12:52

I've been missed! :) my arm actually feels good today thanks. I imagine it was some kind of carpal tunnel thing (not actually that though) brought on by the gardening and my ever advancing years. I'm not bothered that I'm not sticking religiously to the shredding schedule though as whatever I do is better than nothing! I see it as a long term goal.

Once DS1 is back from rugby and packed off to his father's I shall attempt L2.

clearsommespace · 02/07/2017 08:39

L3 D8 complete.
About knees, I notice JM doesn't say to turn out knees during jumping jacks but I when I used to go to aerobics I was told to turn out to avoid injury.
