Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Our parkrun never has pacers, which surprises me as it's huge.
I've ran with pacers at Exeter and got my best time when I accidentally followed the 25 minute chap thinking he was the 30 min pacer.

MelanieCheeks · 19/08/2018 17:46

Yes, it counts as a volunteer credit too, so we usually have plenty of takers.

AuntieStella · 19/08/2018 19:51

The only time we ever get pacers is the twice-a-year occasion when a nearby triathlon club takes the whole roster!

givemushypeasachance · 20/08/2018 09:46

I've been listening to that "Free Weekly Timed" podcast that's been going a few months now, it's quite fun - a mix of features and interviews with volunteers and parkrun ambassadors, people email in with stories and shout-outs and the like. One of the hosts is a very keen parkrun tourist and seems to have been everywhere, it's inspiring me to try to go a bit further afield than the handful of different runs I've done.

Nerd alert: it's 29 minutes long which is the average length of a parkrun!

MelanieCheeks · 25/08/2018 07:46

Morning all! Hope it stays dry wherever you are.

Off to regain my regionnaire status today.

goldopals · 25/08/2018 11:41

It was SUNNY for us today. We are in one of the colder parts of Australia and it has been dreary and mostly rainy for months. I managed to beat my PB AGAIN; I managed to get sub 30 min last week and got 29 minutes today! I am so bloody proud. For the FIRST time my age ranked score was above 50%!

I was so out of breath at one point that someone tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was okay, but I continued.

I was crap at sports all through school and teased because of it; I never knew that I could do anything like Parkrun. My body is strong and capable of so much.

DropZoneOne · 25/08/2018 15:17

Can I join? I'm on my last week of C25K and my goal was to run my first Parkrun today in under 40 minutes. I managed a 5k this week at 37 minutes but when I arrived at the park, I realised it was quite a tough course with lots of ups and downs! I'm not very good with hills, so I'm very chuffed with 36 minutes.

goldopals · 25/08/2018 23:51

Congratulations! That must feel awesome to surpass your goal

Sinkingfeeling · 26/08/2018 11:55

Well done DropZoneOne! Great achievement, especially on a tough course. I graduated C25K a couple of weeks ago too and have just done my second park run. Aching muscles are slightly better today than they were after last week's park run :)

runningpink · 26/08/2018 18:00

Well done gold, drop and sinking amazing achievements.

I finally done my first bit of parkrun tourism even though Iv been doing parkrun regularly for two years!!
I did enjoy it but I don’t think I will be touring all that regularly, like the familiarity of my ‘home’ run.

DropZoneOne · 27/08/2018 00:21

Thanks gold and sinking, it was great to finish it, there were some hard bits and luckily there was no one near to hear me saying "come on drop, you can do this, you are strong, you can run" Grin

29 minutes is amazing gold well done

givemushypeasachance · 28/08/2018 09:46

Well done everyone! I touristed to a semi-local parkrun I haven't visited before, it was a grassy course versus my usual fondness for paths so that was something a bit different. Nice run around in the sunshine. Then on Sunday morning I went and did the Severn Bridge 10k in the most atrocious heavy rain and got completely soaked to the skin even before the race started! Running between Wales and England on a closed motorway bridge? Great fun! Grin

There's a parkrun partially across the Severn Bridge just started a few weeks ago - on the pedestrian section not the motorway itself, will have to tourist there sometime soon...

runningpink · 01/09/2018 19:01

How was everyone’s run today?

Was warmer than I expected but I somehow managed to smash out my fastest time this year and only 15 seconds slower than my PB!
The hope is there that I can match or even better beat my PB is now there again!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/09/2018 21:53

Mine was awful today - combination of holiday and illness meant that I’ve not run at all for 4 weeks Shock. Found it really hard and came in at 1 min 7 secs slower than my PB of 4 weeks ago 😬. Still, today was about getting back out and getting round so onwards and upwards! Still hoping for sub 30 by end of the year - literally 29:59 Grin.

runningpink · 02/09/2018 11:09

Well done for getting out a run again. I can be so hard after a break that’s for sure.

This time of year is my PB time as it cools down and the conditions just work for me. Maybe it will be the same for you and you will get that sub 30!
Keep an eye out on any pacer events your parkrun may put on as that can help as well

CalmConfident · 02/09/2018 13:09

I am aiming to get sub-30 by the end of the year....and get back intp the age rated 50%. We can do it!

Currently between 32-33 mins...a long way from my super fit PB of 26 something of a few years back!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 02/09/2018 17:05

Calm yes we can do it!! My all-time Parkrun PB is 31:30, so it’s defon doable for me with some hard work!!

CalmConfident · 02/09/2018 20:04

Avon ok, game on. Let's do this Grin

CalmConfident · 02/09/2018 23:38

I found this Avon www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/3338980-What-next-after-C25K

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/09/2018 09:54

Great thank you Calm Smile My “plan” is to do 2X 2.5k interval training runs midweek and then Parkruns on Saturday, hopefully boosted by the midweeks. 🤞🏻

MelanieCheeks · 07/09/2018 16:27

the New York-ish one

If you are planning a trip to New York and are super keen......

marvelousways · 08/09/2018 11:18

Hello all, can I join you? Did my first ever parkrun this morning and really enjoyed it. Can anyone explain how the timing actually works? It was all a bit confusing at the end, I kept waking my barcode at poor volunteers as I finished! Then got a little plastic barcode which I then had to take to be scanned with my barcode. So where did my time actually get logged?
Anyway, will be back next week ,hopefully can improve a bit, although I came in 31.56 according to my Stava which is a 5k PB for me, so pleased with ghat. Grin

MelanieCheeks · 08/09/2018 12:03

As you crossed the finish line there will have been a timekeeper (probably 2, most parkruns use a back-up one). They click a button each time someone crosses the finish, and later on the results are processed by downloading the timing watch and the scanners. From there, the parkrun elves match up the times with the position numbers with the runner. Your result will then be emailed or texted to you.

Scientistic · 08/09/2018 12:53

Ah, just found this! Long time watcher and one time runner. 31 mins so far. It hurt... I need encouragement to do more!

marvelousways · 08/09/2018 14:09

ah, thank you Melanie that makes sense. Think I missed the timekeeper person, although my dd1 (who also did her first parkrun today) said she saw someone with a "timer thing" as she crossed finished (significantly ahead of me , but she is only a spritely 18 yr old LOL)
I was wondering because it took me good while to get to the next person and get my plastic tag thingy and then to get my barcode scanned.
I have indeed now got my email which has me at 32.00 exact so very close to when I pressed my stava finish button , plus I did start near the back of the crowd and there were over 300 runners.
It was a really good event though. And you get loads of info in the email. The volunteers are fab aren't they. I will def do some of that once I've been a few more times.I cant wait to go again next week. Will have to skip week after as dd is off to Uni plus I am signed up for a 10k on the Sunday.
