For one pointless -excuse- reason after another I get so far and then stop .

This time I have signed myself up for a 5k in May so I have to do it now . I do enjoy it once I get into it and I really want to finish something for once .

If anyone has any hints tips or kicks up the arse spare I would appreciate it .

I don't. Legs need a day minimum to recover (and I'm too lazy)

Pinkvici22 · 18/04/2017 19:33

Did W5 R1 today....outdoors....and I loved it!!! Had no problems breathing and felt I could've kept going!

Dare I say it....I think I'm starting to enjoy thisSmile

TheConstantCakeEater · 18/04/2017 20:40

Oh well done Pink I'm now strangely looking forward to the torture too!

SecretNortherner · 18/04/2017 21:33

Howling - not too bad to be fair, I'm keeping up!. I've had a week off so got back in it yesterday with a new pair of shiny trainers Grin. The 5k in June (I think), so plenty of time, but I go back to work shortly so I'll only be able to get out on the weekends. I don't get home till 8:30, so going for a run is the last thing on my mind!
Glad to see everyone is still sticking with it :)

SecretNortherner · 18/04/2017 21:34

Howlong - not howling. Damn phone!

Howlongtillbedtime · 19/04/2017 04:39

Yay ! Well done pink that's fab .

Don't worry secret I have been called worse Grin

It looks like everyone is doing really well . Long may it last .

My next big step is to get outside on my own .

I honestly can't believe what a wuss I am being about this . I am so confident in life generally but I am really having to push myself with this .

Good luck everyone .

Go out after dark or where no one will know you - that's how I started and now feel a bit more confident.

nickEcave · 19/04/2017 16:42

I'm 5 weeks into it now, just did the first run of 8 minutes yesterday and today I REALLY hurt all over, particularly my knees. I try to stick to flattish routes but the nicest places to run near me are hilly and I always feel it in my knees. Bit worried that I may be doing harm to my knees that out weighs the health benefits! Is anyone else getting knee pain?

SecretNortherner · 19/04/2017 19:14

Nick, I'm also running on forest type paths, so uneven and hilly in parts. I'm finding I get a small pain in my knees. Apparently a good pair of running shoes should help. I'm a bit apprehensive about forking out for some, but it you go to a good quality independent running shop they will check your 'running style' Confused and that's meant to help with dodgy knees/ankles.
Well done on week 5!

SecretNortherner · 19/04/2017 19:15

HowLong I find running on a treadmill and running outside - or even on your own is completely different to running with someone. Good luck!

TheConstantCakeEater · 19/04/2017 21:21

Just back and showered rather than sweating all over the laptop

I was out for 45mins and 45s and covered 3.11m AKA 5K Smile

26 of those was a continues slow jog. I struggled from minute 8 onwards but decided it was obviously mind over matter and kept going. Still not sorted on my route, need to change it again on Friday night.

I can also feel it in my knees when I've been on a hilly bit - I've got decent trainers but wasn't brave enough to go into a running shop for gait analysis when I started. Think that I may treat myself in a few weeks time when I get to jogging 5K.

Pinkvici22 · 19/04/2017 21:41

Wow you're all doing so well! I'm planning on running again tomorrow (W5 R2) outdoors, alone! Was a little achy today for the first time obviously because I didn't stretch properly

Excited to get to 5k (even if it's at snails pace....I think I'm really slow!!)

LobsterMac · 20/04/2017 05:05

I am awaking at stupid o'clock so I'm MNing with a cup of tea and I came across this thread. It brought back painful wonderful memories!

I did C25K last year. When I started, I thought I was going to die having to run for 60 secs. The leap to 20 mins literally gave me nightmares.

A few weeks ago I ran a half marathon and on Sunday I am running the London Marathon.

Keep it up, you're doing brilliantly!

TheConstantCakeEater · 20/04/2017 06:04

Well done Lobster I'm also awake stupidly early after needing to hunt for the Vicks at 1AM love my children and then awake at 5.

It's taken me since July to get this far, so slow and steady wins the race Wink

Let us know how you get in Pink

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/04/2017 06:50

Thanks for the encouragement lobster I love hearing from people that have done the whole thing and are carrying on .
Especially people that thought they might die in the beginning Grin
Good luck for Sunday . That is an amazing achievement .

I hope health is soon restored in your house constant

I have one more night to do and then hoping to get out on Friday .

I am actually looking forward to it .... I think ......

Good luck to everyone getting out and about today .

I got twitchy and went out . How weird is that ? I am actually missing it instead of dreading it .

I wasn't out long however but I did run 23 mins without stopping . But I really needed the loo so had to come home Blush

So next step is parkrun on Saturday !

Just hope I haven't knackered myself for my night shift tonight.

That's amazing Howlong

I've just got back from doing W5 R2...I can't believe I ran 8 minutes! I did it outdoors for the second time and the last run (5 mins) was uphill with the wind against me....I'm exhausted now.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/04/2017 19:25

Well done pink that's fab !

Well over half way now Grin

Well done Ladies

Brew for tonight How

I'm going to go out tomorrow night if I survive the day Wink

Howlongtillbedtime · 21/04/2017 19:09

Thanks for the coffee constant definitely needed today .

Good luck if you manage to get out tonight.

My plan is still to go and do a parkrun tomorrow . very nervous about it , sounds like something someone who knows what they are doing would do.

Howlongtillbedtime · 22/04/2017 10:20

Morning all .

I did it Grin

I am beyond chuffed ! I did the whole thing without stopping or being sick so I am delighted with that .

I can't believe how far I have come in just a couple of months . Couch to 5k is brill Grin

Good luck to everyone getting out and about today .

Pinkvici22 · 22/04/2017 12:22

How that's amazing! I'm getting excited reading how everyone is doing (and on the graduate thread).

I did W5 R3 today - in the outdoors on my own! Felt great and I just can't believe I'm starting week 6 next week...5K actually seems like a possibility now (albeit very slowly).

Howlongtillbedtime · 22/04/2017 12:38

Thank you and well done for your run . I remember that 20min run felt like a massive hurdle to cross .

You need to get registered for parkrun now Grin

OP posts:
Pinkvici22 · 22/04/2017 12:56

I was thinking of getting to mid-May and then signing up for parkrun - a friend has said she'll do it with me.

Howlongtillbedtime · 22/04/2017 13:03

I loved it today and still can't really believe I have done it .

It wasn't easy but it always felt doable .

The really annoying thing was I couldn't print off my barcode so my name won't be on there for this week but I won't make that mistake again .
