For one pointless -excuse- reason after another I get so far and then stop .

This time I have signed myself up for a 5k in May so I have to do it now . I do enjoy it once I get into it and I really want to finish something for once .

If anyone has any hints tips or kicks up the arse spare I would appreciate it .

Hello to both of you. The more the merrier.

Pipsqueak11 · 11/09/2017 00:04

Can i join too? I've just done w5r3 -I did it without stopping but found it v hard. I did it outside and I find running outside much harder than on treadmill so I might try it again in the gym .
I am moving v slowly through the programme doing most weeks a couple of times before I feel ready to move on.
This is probably because I'm v overweight and mid 50s. I'm still not sure if I like doing this or not. I think I enjoy the sense of achievement more than the exercise.I was hoping for a bit of weight loss but that's not happening. Feeling a bit despondent with it but will keep going til Xmas hoping I will be able to run for 30 mins by then. I don't think it will be 5 k though as my running is
S. L. O. W!!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/09/2017 07:56

Welcome to all the new posters.

I doubt you're moving any slower through the programme than I am, Pipsqueak. I'm setting a record for how many times I can repeat the first 4 weeks Grin

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 11/09/2017 12:49

I've not got past week 7's last run and I started over a year ago and gave up twice

Need to go out tonight. I don't really enjoy it either, but like you say, feel a sense of achievement Pip

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/09/2017 13:21

I did week 8 about 5 years ago. At this rate I'll still be on this thread in another 20 years.

Pipsqueak11 · 11/09/2017 18:28

I can feel muscles in my thighs where I couldn't before- not sure that's necessarily a good thing though!!!
I am so slow it's ridiculous. On the treadmill I walk at 4.5 km/ hr and "run" (lol!) at 6 km/hr
Sometimes my daughter humours me and comes too and sets treadmill to 9 km/hr for the run part and she isn't a runner or training - snot fair!!!

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 11/09/2017 20:36

Well done pip! I've decided comparison is the thief of joy.

Went out and knew I'd struggle - my thighs are killing too, but did the same distance as Sat in 12 minutes 20 so more or less the same.

Out walking wit a friend tomorrow, going to hurt!

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 11/09/2017 20:37

With, stupid bit if tech!

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 11/09/2017 21:09

I give up Hmm

mrwalkensir · 11/09/2017 23:04

was thinking pip - part of it is also pulse rate - with my 3.3/4.5 mph I'm not much different to you, but at this stage my pulse is up at 190 + which is way above my age max recommended of 170. If we're going for cardio, we're getting it!

Pipsqueak11 · 13/09/2017 23:26

You're right . Need to stop being so negative a nd just keep going. Having a go at week 6 tomorrow. Thanks for encouraging words

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 16/09/2017 15:53

How did it go? I did 12 minutes on Thursday morning and my legs felt OK. Have no energy today so will need to see if I can do it this evening despite feeling bleugh or force myself tomorrow.

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 17/09/2017 07:11

I did 13 minutes and 22 of walking in total. minutes 0-3, 6-9 were OK but the rest was hard going. Now I just need to keep it up.

Howlongtillbedtime · 17/09/2017 09:20

Good morning all , thanks a little birdie told me you were all back here .

I have pretty much failed to do any running over the summer so I am going to get out today and see how painful it is! Very is my guess Grin

I hope everyone is doing OK and I will be back later !

Well I made it back in one piece !

I managed 2.5 miles in 34.5 mins . Not great considering I was covering 5k in that time ......ooops...

But I now know what I am looking at , I walked about 11 mins overall so I think I might go back to work 5 or 6 .

Sorry for the waffle but I wanted to write it down and become accountable again.

Good luck to everyone getting out today .

Well done world ! It sounds like we are at a similar stage (again Grin)

Went out in the rain and did 2.1m in 35 but 15 jogging and 20 walking. Won't get out now till Thursday morning. Planning to go 'cross country' at a NT property. Quiet, pleasant and probably a piece of cake at the finish Blush

Howlongtillbedtime · 19/09/2017 07:15

I am impressed cake I always wimp out of going out in the rain.

A NT run sounds very civilised, I am going to go out after work today . Really trying to fit in at least 3 a week.

Good luck everyone ( if anyone else is still out there ........ )

So I've done w7r2. Slightly terrified that there are no more interval runs - just longer and longer runs! I also won't manage 5km in 30 mins, but am aiming for 30 mins for now, then will try to up my pace/run for longer.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/09/2017 20:27

Did W6R2. The remainder are all just 25+ minute runs. I'm very, very slow. I'm amazed I can run at all so I feel good about it anyway. Also 50+.

LosingItThisYear · 19/09/2017 20:59

Oops, I meant w6r2, not week 7. Wishful thinking!

LadyWithLapdog · 19/09/2017 22:15

We're at the same stage, LITY :) Good luck.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/09/2017 07:28

Morning all, I made it out yesterday and decided to wing it (had forgot my phone and couldn't remember the plan)
I covered 5k jogging/walking/plodding but it took me nearly 42 mins , but I did cover it so I am pleased.
I started a new job a couple of weeks ago and things are settling down now so I am hoping to get back to going every other day.

LITY Having no walking bits is daunting but I also found it quite liberating not waiting for the change and just having to get on with it. The plan is good so you know you are ready for this bit.

Good luck everyone getting out there today !

Lady - so we are! All the intervals are over Shock. The end is in sight though - can't wait to be able to run 30 mins straight!

HowLong - The plan is indeed clever, after my 20 min run, the two ten min intervals seemed like a breeze, though a week earlier I was struggling with an eight minute interval.
