New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

May I joIn? I had my second baby before Christmas, after a hugely inactive pregnancy where I had severe pelvic pain that hugely limited even my walking, let alone running. Thankfully all seems cleared up and my doctor has given the ok so I started today on week 1 day 1. I used to run a lot several years ago (including marathons) and then in more recent years was an avid Parkrunner so I should know how to do this but I feel I need the structure and accountability of a programme. So day 1 completed and feeling a lot better for getting out in the fresh air. To stave off boredom, I'm going to chop and change which podcast I follow for each of the three days per week so I'm interested to hear which ones you all like.

Pinkheels · 05/02/2017 08:09

Hi everyone, can I join too? I've approached this a little back to front- decided to start running towards the end of last year and keenly pitched up at a parkrun after a couple of weeks of running, to do a 5k in 45 minutes, which was strangely fun even though it made me realise I needed some more structure. After sticking to my usual 2 sessions a week of running and a parkrun on a Saturday with not much improvement to time (43 minutes is my quickest) I'm wondering whether I'd be better off slowly building up my stamina through c25k- I tend to run for about 3 minutes then walk for 3. Where would people suggest I start?

jesstar · 05/02/2017 10:11

Thanks for the get well vibes, I'm feeling much better and was itching to get out so went this morning for W5R3. It wasn't as bad as I was dreading, but I think it definitely helped that I hadn't run since Weds so my legs felt properly rested. This was my biggest mental hurdle I think, as I haven't run for 20 mins straight before, so am pleased I managed. Although I was slow.

Welcome to Pink and sycamore ... have to say, I wasn't ready to run so soon after my babies so well done for getting out there so quickly. I was in a sleep deprived state for ... 2 years or so?!

Pink I think I would suggest starting at Week 3 or 4 if you're already a runner, you might find it easy but I think it's good to get into the right rhythm and structure.

Good luck to all for the coming week whatever stage you're at, I think it's great that so many of us are sticking with it. I keep telling myself something is better than nothing, so not putting pressure on if I don't manage to finish a run.

Hi all
Welcome sycamore and congrats, I had dc 4 in July can't believe she's 6 months now time has flown by.
Welcome pink heels

ChickenPoop · 05/02/2017 19:28

Well done everyone. W6D3 completed this eve. Twas a challenge but after the cool down I did another 3 minutes, so technically should be ready for week 7...

Evilstepmum01 · 05/02/2017 22:41

Hi pink and sycamore, welcome! Nice going tsoto, you're keen! I always leave a day between runs! Just completed w2r3 so that's over with. Struggled a bit today but am tired, so leaving w3r1 till Tuesday. Bit nervous I won't manage but got to try right? Happy running everyone! Grin

isambardo · 06/02/2017 21:26

Well done everyone, it's very motivating reading about you all who are ahead of me! I just did w3r1 and really enjoyed it. First time I've felt like I found my pace and could have just kept going.

wetcardboard · 06/02/2017 22:36

I did W1R1 tonight, in the gym. I wish I could run outside but I'm in central london and my asthma has been bad enough this winter already.

I started C25K last year and enjoyed what I did from it, but then I took an extended break from the gym so I'm starting again from scratch.

sycamore54321 · 06/02/2017 23:11

Thanks for the welcomes and the congratulations. Week 1 day 2 complete today. I did get the rather unpleasant surprise of realising my pelvic floor is not quite as restored to full health as I'd hoped, which is disappointing and impinging on the positive feelings from the run itself. Must be more diligent with the Kegels and will reevaluate in a few days whether I should still keep running.

Tsotofamily · 06/02/2017 23:34

W2r1 done today.

waiting4inspiration · 07/02/2017 01:02

Just checking in briefly to report W6R1 done. The walking breaks are becoming over-long, especially in the pouring rain - never thought I'd be saying that a couple of weeks ago!

isambardo · 07/02/2017 11:02

Waiting4, when I read the plan I was surprised how long the walks are in weeks 5/6. I'm already looking forward to the last weeks when we drop the walking breaks.

isambardo · 07/02/2017 11:05

And sympathies Sycamore, I always have to have a pee immediately before setting off for a run!

anonymousbird · 07/02/2017 11:37

Hello, I need to go and do W5 R3, but it's SO COLD!!!!

You are all doing so well!

anonymousbird · 07/02/2017 13:26

Managed it, and the sun had come out by then and it was far from cold so I was totally overlayered up!

So, Week 5 complete, and I took a peek at Week 6.... seriously ramps it up from here by the looks.

I'd appreciate some advice. I have a week's holiday next week and I really can't take running shoes and kit - not feasible from a packing point of view or a finding time to run point of view, due to the nature of the holiday, other people we are with and so on.

Should I go back a couple of steps when I return do you think, or just plough on with where I've got to. Realistically, the break will be mid week 6 as it's this weekend we go away.

TIA

sycamore54321 · 07/02/2017 13:38

@anonymousbird I'd restart by doing the most recent run again and see from there if you feel you need to re-do the whole week or if you can advance to the next stage. Can you also look at squeezing in a power walk or two while away? Or if there is a gym in your hotel?

anonymousbird · 07/02/2017 14:08

Thanks sycamore. Being new to this, I am not really sure how much I will regress in a week, so I think that is sound advice.

I will be skiing, and we go at a fair lick to keep up with the kids, so the legs will be working out, just not running. We are half way up a very steep hill and there are absolutely no flat paths/roads anywhere near where we stay (hence no running, I can only just manage it on the flat!), so a reasonable walk is a possibility if its not too snowy/icy.

ChickenPoop · 07/02/2017 18:22

anonymous you shouldn't lose much stamina in a week. Even two weeks won't undo too much. As already said try your previous run and go from there, you'll get back into it preey quickly. The hardest part is getting back into the habit.

I've just done w7r1. Was tough but completed it.

ChickenPoop · 07/02/2017 18:23

*pretty Confused

bijouxxx · 07/02/2017 19:09

Well I'm finally back after deciding to take another week off because of my leg. Did w3r3 but struggled a bit so think I will repeat it on Thursday then move onto week 4 on Saturday.

Evilstepmum01 · 07/02/2017 22:39

Glad your leg is better bijou, hope u manage the next one ok. Everyone is doing so well! Sycamore...tena lady. We were talking about this and kegels at the gym last night! The joys! That's W3R1 done, not too bad with longer runs, but surprised how short it was! Finished 2/3rds of way round my regular run so did wee extra run at the end! Slightly sore left shin but running through it! 😀

I did w3r2 today, I did a new route which took in a couple long hills, bloody exhausting! I'll stick to the flat for a bit longer yet :)

Chickenpoop how is week 7? It seems a big leap from here to there!

ChickenPoop · 08/02/2017 16:20

isambardo Week 7 is ok. It's tough but manageable... However I'm not a first timer so think I have some muscle memory. My legs are fine. It's just my lungs that protest.

I need to go out for run 2 now. I think I'm getting sick though - I've had scratchy tickle throat all day so not sure if I'll be able to breathe properly. We shall see...
