Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

I got another PB 31.19. I love love love Parkrun. The pacers were brilliant. If anyone is reading this who is thinking about going along, just do it - it's so encouraging and you smash your times.

shortaris1 · 28/01/2017 08:55

Thanks Empress but I got new trainer's 5 weeks ago. Running shop couldn't sell me them as my feet are so small! But they did advise me on brands and I got them from a good sports shop.

It feels better now after some stretches, a runners yoga DVD on YouTube and some time with my foam roller!

Arch that's amazing! Well done you. I'm going to start them after I've done Couch25K.

I'm now officially addicted to running and raging if I have to miss a session. Who would have thought!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/01/2017 09:15

Sounds like you're sorted then Shortaris! Running yoga, must look that up.

Great timing Arch! I will do a Parkrun at some point. Just not yet.

ScarlettDarling · 28/01/2017 09:17

Wow Arch amazing time! I def fancy doing a park run, we have 3 to choose from very near us, am going to research which is the flattest!

No running for me for a while though, think I've broken a rib Sad and everything hurts so am going for a gentle walk today. Or I might just stay home with poorly dd and drink coffee and eat biscuits cost it's grim and foggy here today and I feel sorry for myself!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/01/2017 09:33

You & DD stay home & snuggle on the sofa together, Scarlett. BrewBrewHope you both feel better soon.

shortaris1 · 28/01/2017 16:10

Ouch Scarlett take it easy! Very dreich here too but shoved my trusty parka on and went to body combat this morning.

Biking007 · 28/01/2017 21:29

Sounds like a great run arch I'd like to do a park run but our nearest is 10miles away so not easy to nip to for 30min run.

scarlett hope the rest time helps and DD feels better soon. Some easy running technique tweaks I got off you tube helped my neck and shoulder pain so maybe you can find some help for your knee issues?

shortaris hope the body combat was fun Smile

I've not run since Monday due to heavy head cold but Ive done some walking and hoping the snot eases enough to run Monday again, assuming my oldest DD isn't off school as she has gone down with it tonightSad

shortaris1 · 29/01/2017 15:31

Managed a 20 minute run straight today. So delighted! Only thing is my app (Zenlabs) said I'd run less distance than usual but I went much further? This is a really daft question but I go so far then turn back. Does my app know about both bits or does it just track to the furthest point iyswim?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 15:37

EXCELLENT Shortaris! That's a huge achievement, congrats!!! Is your knee still ok?

Re the app, I don't know. I use MapMyRun for that.

Biking007 · 29/01/2017 17:07

Well done shortaris that's a real achievement I had a massive grin when I did my first 20min because Micheal Johnson was the voice on the C25k app I had and he said I was a "runner" now Grin it was a great feeling. Hope your knee is ok with stretches and ice.

I ventured out today in the rain as my cold is easing and my legs were twitching after a week resting, and the kids were driving me up the wall Grinso I did 6.3k on a different road route. Puff was abit hard at points but felt good for doing it. I tried out my old heart rate monitor and was gob smacked that my resting heart rate is 56. All this running must be working on my fitness!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 17:30

Today my belt buckled comfortably into a hole it last went into about 15 years ago. Looks like we're both doing something right, Biking!

Biking007 · 29/01/2017 17:55

That's a nice feeling empress Smile I've been wearing some old jeans all week which id not had on the last 6mths and they felt lose on the legs Smile well pleased about that as I'm struggling with losing weight but I am toning up and a lot fitter.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 18:56

I've stopped weighing myself because I'm hoping I'm building muscle and like you say toning up. If I'm slimmer & fitter I'm happy!

shortaris1 · 29/01/2017 19:25

Well done Biking and Empress Great achievements.

Knee was fine thanks. I've been doing stretches and using a foam roller. Lordy its painful!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 19:33

I know! I've got a vibrating massager that helps. I did a 10K on Friday, my legs were fine for the rest of the day but yesterday I felt the effects.

Archduke · 30/01/2017 01:45

Eeek scarlett a broken rib sounds tough. Take it easy and rest.

Well done shortaris, that's brilliant work, you must feel so positive to have got so far.

I've finished by C25K app now so am moving to the 10km one - I did the first run this morning and am trying to find a local running group to train with but it's hard, everyone is down in the city and no one up here in the Outback. not really the outback just live about 20 mins outside the city

Archduke · 30/01/2017 01:45

Empress and the others on there, I'll come and say hi on the other thread Grin

AnnettePrice · 31/01/2017 13:55

Hi, I've been on a break for a while but if I get home from work early enough I'll be out for a run.
Will be finding out how much of c25k I'll have to redo Sad

Biking007 · 02/02/2017 17:10

You might surprise yourself annette I had a 3-4wk break off just as I reached the 4K mark, and it only took me 3 runs over a week to get back to where I was. A lot is mental strength I found. Gd luck.

shortaris1 · 03/02/2017 07:44

Ran past a running club last week and thinking about joining next moth when I can do 5k. Also been looking up runs to enter online....

Biking007 · 04/02/2017 08:46

Sounds fab shortaris like you are getting all inspired Smile

I hadn't run for a week and had far too much carbs, chocolate Cake & Wine last night but I woke up feeling springy so went for an early run as the air was fresh now the storm had passed. But arrrhh I had to force myself the whole way had slug legs the whole time was really hard work mentally! Did 6k in the end and glad I went but was challenging Grin

shortaris1 · 05/02/2017 20:07

I had a bottle of prosecco to myself on Friday night but was up early yesterday so went out and did a 22 minute run. Horrendously dreich and cold but managed it.

Had a day out on the sauce yesterday so planned day off today. Back to it tomorrow though.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/02/2017 21:03

Every other day sounds about right, Shortaris!

Even if it's cold when I start running I normally get hot very quickly. I was out today & could quite happily have been in shorts by the end.

shortaris1 · 08/02/2017 07:46

I get really warm too normally but it really was bitter down by the river.

25 minutes done on Monday.

What's a good app for 5 to 10k when the time comes?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/02/2017 18:46

Hope you're feeling proud Shortaris because you should be! How's your knee?

I went on to the Zenlabs 10K app. They have this highly unrealistic idea that everyone will end up being able to do 5K in 30 mins / 10K in 60 but bugger that Grin.

Towards the end of the 5K app where it gives the options of measuring by time or distance, I started focusing on distance and decided to worry about speed later.

I'm planning a 5K by my river before work tomorrow but if I wake up & it's icy, all bets are off.
