Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Hello Island and Minnow I've only been running for a few weeks too but this thread is so supportive!

I have stupidly small feet and had to get kids trainers! This did mean that they were only £27 however. I know they won't last as long but at that price that's OK.

WK 2 day 3 done today. Thighs are really heavy as I also did Body Pump yesterday.

Archduke · 09/01/2017 21:15

W7R3 done! I ran for 28 mins, much cooler today so the run was great, I loved it. However I think I've got groin strain (oo err missus). I have an bad 'pulling' ache down the inside of my left thigh. Does this mean I need to stop for a week and rest it?

waitingforsomething · 10/01/2017 12:30

Welcome minnow and island. I just managed to complete W7R1, 25 minutes which was a total of 3.3k. I Guess at that rate I might be able to do 5k in around 35 minutes if I ever get there! The last couple of minutes was hard, I'm starting to reach a point of difficulty in the programme now.

Biking007 · 10/01/2017 17:22

That's brill arch and waiting, the hardest bit is mentally believing you can go further I found, but you can! arch I have constant achy hip flexor top of leg in groin, I find icing with frozen peas after run helps and stretching it before running and after. Google hip flexor stretches for ideas may help. Ironically it doesn't hurt once I get warmed up running but does when I stop?!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/01/2017 17:51

The hardest bit is mentally believing you can go further I found, but you can!

EXACTLY! The toughest bit for me is always the first 5 minutes when I'm debating whether I can actually do this. Then I get distracted and notice some time later that I'm still running Grin.

Waiting, congrats. I repeated runs quite a few times at the hard bits & just went to the next bit when I felt ready.

shortaris1 · 10/01/2017 18:35

W3 R1 done. Tried a new route and it was very stop start with traffic but when I actually got onto the right path its awesome and I'll be running there from now on. I'll see how the other two go but I may need to repeat this week. That's ok though!

Archduke · 10/01/2017 20:57

Thanks for the hip flexor info Biking, my ache is fine when running too but can be really sore when walking - particularly when I first get up . . . may go and see a physio about it. I really don't want to take time out of running, but don't want it to get worse . . .

The hardest bit is mentally believing you can go further I found, but you can!

V wise words Biking - I find setting myself small goals helps, ie "I'll just run to that lampost and then see how I feel" - I mostly find that I can easily keep going, it is just a mental issue not a physical one. My dh is doing a mad 5000km cycle race this year so I also think that well, if he can do that then I can learn to run 5km!

Biking007 · 10/01/2017 21:22

I use the next lamppost technique and just keep going to next strava 0.5k in my headphones too some days it flows others it's a real battle internally in my mind to keep going but it does feel good when you finish Smile I try smiling to myself when it feels tough and that helps too! I always find the 10-15min bit hard my legs go like treacle but I plod on and it gets easier

228agreenend · 10/01/2017 21:27

Hi all, I've started c25 on a treadmill. does anyone have any tips for treadmill running?

Biking007 · 11/01/2017 09:43

I've not run much on a treadmill 228 but both my SILs have and trained for a marathon using them. They watch a TV prog knowing it's on for half hr or hour and just keep plodding but cover up the display or it's too demoralising Grin good luck I admire anyone who can do it on a treadmill!

Archduke · 11/01/2017 11:37

Just run 6.6i non stop Shock

Have a lovely shiny newly formed running group and we met for the first time tonight. 2 v experienced runners and me and another mum. It was brilliant I ran the furthest I've ever run. My legs will feel it tomorrow.

Biking007 · 11/01/2017 20:18

That's Fab u lous arch!!!! Well done Star hope the legs are ok tom Smile

I had looonng 12hr day at work today lots travelling and early start, but my DH was brill doing the kids so I forced myself out 10mins after getting in and did 5k at good pace, so I was pleased with making myself go out.

Archduke · 11/01/2017 20:56

Thanks Biking, well done to you too on getting out after such a long day. I bet you feel so much better for making the effort.

I need to get out and walk the dog but am buggering about on the computer instead . . .

Biking007 · 11/01/2017 21:06

Think it was the full moon boost which gave me energy arch Grin I'm crashed out now!

Biking007 · 13/01/2017 18:51

How's everyone doing? Have you had snow? We didn't get any, much to my kids disappointment & mine Grin so I managed to get out tonight for a run was cold n bitter wind but I managed to get in the zone at the 4K mark which was a nice feeling, as I still find the 2-3k bit really hard going and I have to really mentally push through it.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 13/01/2017 18:59

Well done Biking & Arch!

We had a bit earlier. Workout at the gym this morning & the next round of hill sprints tomorrow.

Archduke · 14/01/2017 02:57

Well done Biking and Empress, going out when it's freezing and snowy deserves extra kudos.

I did Parkrun this morning and am STOKED to say I got a PB Star Star Star Star Star

I did it in 33mins 10 secs! I think I may keep going with 5km until the end of my app (2 weeks) and then move on to the 5 - 10km thread.

Biking007 · 14/01/2017 08:29

Whoohooo Star arch that's fab well done

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 14/01/2017 08:36

Brilliant Arch!

shortaris1 · 15/01/2017 11:49

Well done Arch W3R2 was a bit of a sippy one the other day as we had a tiny bit of frost so really had to watch my feet. Off out to do R3 in a bit

ScarlettDarling · 15/01/2017 12:39

Well done arch that's a fab time. I've done 5k a few times now but always around the 34 min mark. I'm going to try to get a bit faster before I go further. It was a slippy one yesterday mind!

Archduke · 16/01/2017 00:34

Thanks everyone Grin.

I was feeling all cock-o-the-walk about my run on Saturday and then went out this morning to do W8R3 and could barely do it. In fact I had to walk during a few uphill parts. My thigh muscles were killing me. Does everyone else's legs feel horrendous after a big run?

I think I was a bit ahead of myself thinking of extending to 10k Grin. I only managed 4km today and was buggered.

Archduke · 16/01/2017 00:36

Also I wanted to congratulate you all on getting out there in the snow and ice. I could barely make it out this morning as am lazy and it's sunny here.

Biking007 · 16/01/2017 15:55

I have "gd" runs and bloody hard work runs arch doesn't seem to be too much rhyme or reason but the ones after a. 2day rest are normally faster but not easier to get my head into. I'm supposed to go tonight if DH gets home on time, I feel shattered right now after early start at work and now dinner to cook for DDs but I tell myself "go for a walk and see what happens" and 90% of the time I start running after 2-3mins Grin

Biking007 · 16/01/2017 18:42

Did my first 6.5k today Grin really pleased with that and have to smile to myself and think 6 weeks ago I was zonked out by a virus doing nothing now I'm running for 45mins Smile feels good even if my
Joints are groaning abit at the mo.
