Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Good work biking. I've just done W9R1 running for 30 mins.

So. Difficult. Honestly, I think I'm getting worse. Maybe running in the evening isn't my thing. I wonder if I'm better first thing . . .?

I do have that post run high though so wooooo hoooo! We do need to remember that it's always so great when you finish Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 18/01/2017 08:42

About an hour after breakfast seems to work for me. I'm normally whacked in the evenings and I like running as it's getting light.

It's fabulous when you finish!!! There's that moment when you really want to stop but you're that close to hitting your target if you push yourself that bit further...

Archduke · 18/01/2017 08:44

Yes! Empress I love that bit. Legs burning, lungs fit to burst and then you kick up a gear. So brilliant.

Biking007 · 18/01/2017 09:50

Well done arch running for 30mins is such an achievement I still don't find it easier and regularly have a 30sec walk at 20min mark to rebalance my breathing and that has helped me push through the 30min mark. It's weird I really find the earlier bit of running at the 2-3k mark SO much harder than the end of the run when I push myself to go go go Grin just look back where you have come from and "say well done I flipping did it!!" In sept I struggled to run 2mins, now I'm up to 40mins I'm gob smacked still and most people that know me SO don't believe me as I look the same 3stone overweight super curvy mummy Grin but I know Smile

shortaris1 · 20/01/2017 07:54

Well done Arch That's such an inspiration as I'm on Week 4 and managing about 4 mins straight just now!

Did W4R2 last night. Knee was a bit sore but it's fine now.

Really enjoying it and have also been doing weights, combat, attack and HIIT this week. Need to shift some beef from round my middle.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/01/2017 09:00

I remember the first time I managed 5 mins without stopping, shortaris, I was bloody proud!

Never thought then that one day I'd be able to do 50.

(I'm a shortaris too - 4ft11)

Archduke · 20/01/2017 23:13

Hi all, I've just done Parkrun, I'm not sure of my time, but it would be around 33 mins. I'm hoping for a PB as I tried really hard this week Grin.

Shortaris before I started C25K in November I honestly couldn't run for even a minute. I'm constantly astonished that I can now run for 5km without having an aneurysm. You sound like you're doing really well with the running + everything else.

Archduke · 21/01/2017 06:22

StarStarStarStarStarPBStarStarStarStarStar

32 min 31 secs

Grin

I have downloaded the 5-10km app as although I had to take to my bed after Parkrun I am convinced that in the next few weeks I will be able to extend my running.

Biking007 · 21/01/2017 08:28

That's awesome arch well done great run.

I'm adding 0.5k a week to my run but I've added back in a couple of 30sec walks to let me go further, managed 7k last night but my legs bit stiff this mornSmile

shortaris1 · 21/01/2017 20:06

Well done and thanks. Managed 5 mins tonight. Delighted!

5'0 here empress

Biking007 · 21/01/2017 22:48

Well done shortaris
I'm starting to feel tall on this thread at 5ft2.75 Grin never felt tall in my life Wink

Archduke · 22/01/2017 01:47

I'm 5' 2" as well. We are all titchy. Although clearly we tower over Empress and Shortaris Bikiing Grin.

Biking 7km is amazing. Well done you.

I am thinking about signing up for a 1/2 marathon in August. Have I lost my mind? I'm going to be 50 next year and want to achieve something that I can be proud of before I fall into decrepitude.

Archduke · 22/01/2017 01:48

Shortaris you are doing brilliantly. 5 mins is a great milestone. Well done.

Biking007 · 22/01/2017 17:18

Gosh Arch that's a good challenge plenty of time to get there. Why not go for a 10k and build up? I'm finding my body is groaning on the joints with the longer runs I'm not finding it as easy as I thought it would be to go further each week plus it takes longer. Sounds obvious but the initial joy of running meant I only needed to snatch 30mins now I'm looking for an hour.
I trained for a 100k bike ride couple years ago and it was finding the flipping time to train in 3-4hrs blocks that I found the hardest.

ScarlettDarling · 22/01/2017 18:04

Oh my God...I'm the BFG of the thread at 5' 11"!!!

Surely it should be easier for me, I must have to do fewer steps to cover the same distance as you petite people? But I still find it soooooo hard!

Although I did actually enjoy(ish) yesterday's run. I took it really slow and mananged 5.3 km in 38 mins, was pleased with that.

You're all doing so well. I'm proud of us all Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 22/01/2017 18:58

Do it, Archduke! So impressed by everyone.

I did a five mile walk yesterday so decided not to do a long one today. I had a run round the local hilly park and it was definitely harder than going on the flat!

shortaris1 · 22/01/2017 21:05

Thanks for the encouragement. Wasn't happy with my run yesterday as although I did my 5 mins my usual path was totally deserted so I had to go on the pavement and it wasn't so good so redid it today and it was much better.

Usual path is really busy after work in the week and at weekends in daylight but I went out slightly too late, looked up and realised it was just me and the river! Won't do that again. Week 5 this week!

Biking007 · 23/01/2017 13:13

Well down shortaris you are really building stamina don't get put off by the jump up in running time in the next couple wks I was Shock when I looked at my C25k app but huge amount of it is mental you can do it.

I had gd run this morning slightly different route from usual with a slight gradient which made me work hard on the out leg but boy it was nice running back again in the winter sunshine and white fields around me. I've also downloaded a new calorie counting app so going to try hard the next 8wks to shift some lbs so my outer body matches how my inner me is now feeling Grin

ScarlettDarling · 25/01/2017 14:20

Ooh, just had my worst run yet.

Got to about 3km and developed a stitch which is something I've never been bothered with up until today. It was really sore so had to walk, but every time I thought I'd be ok to run again, it would flare right back up.

Just got to the point where I'd decided to give up for today and walk home when I fell down like a ton of bricks. I've grazed my forehead and cheekbone, have bleeding knees and hands, feel like I've broken my little finger exaggerating a bit here and my ribs are aching.

Feel soooo sorry for myself!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/01/2017 14:27

Oh Scarlett!

Cake[BrewFlowers

Poor you. Look after yourself xxx

Biking007 · 25/01/2017 16:21

Oh dear scarlett lots of BrewCake needed hope you heal ok and it doesn't put you off Flowers sometimes it's just worse falling over as an adult as we beat ourselves about it whereas my DD does it most weeks and off she goes again after a quick cry Bear (she's 5yr but super accident prone!)

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/01/2017 16:53

Adults also have further to fall! Sad (especially very tall ones).

shortaris1 · 26/01/2017 07:19

Ouch Scarlett take it easy!

My left knee has started hurting when I run. What to do?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/01/2017 07:50

Shortaris, that's a sign that you need new trainers. Do you have a local running shop you can get advice from?

Archduke · 27/01/2017 22:45

Helloooooooooo

Scarlett that sounds horrible, taking a big fall is scary and painful. Hope you're all ok now.

I've just done Parkrun, they had pacers there this week which was brilliant. I aimed for the 32.5 min target but got under that so am stoked?
