Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Running in the rain is ok I've found as long as it's not hard stinging rain. It helps me say "fu*k you lousy day" and clear out the work stress with a big grin at the end. I read up thread those fab words to get past the 10min mark. I had to do that last week it was huge mental milestone but I did itSmile and have since done 3 more 20min plus "runs" was awesome feeling. I've not told my family yet though, as I keep thinking I might not make the 5k in 30mins target plus I'm running for ME no one else. Luckily I have a super supportive DH (who knocks out 10km in an hour..) my secret target for the spring!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 14/11/2016 22:06

Biking, I know exactly what you mean about the awesome feeling!

I haven't made the 5K in 30 mins yet either. I'm normally around 37. When I got onto the last week I started going by distances instead of time.

But I can run 5K, which was unthinkable 3 months ago, & I'm on the way to running 10K, which was unthinkable a month ago, & the speed will improve when I've built up the stamina & done it a few times. Similar for you?

KikiNeedsABroom · 16/11/2016 20:02

Was hoping to get out tomorrow but was up all night puking so shelving that in favour of going back to bed after the school run!

Biking007 · 16/11/2016 20:52

Arrrh I've hurt my foot so temp taking it easy it's a bugger as I'm doing the tapathon for children in need on Sunday. It's on the mend but I think running down hill at faster pace than I would normally I think did it on Sunday Sad I'm hopeful by next week I can get back out again as I was really in the zone. I'm going to try swimming tom to get my exercise fix.
Get well soon kiki
That's inspiring Empress I'm hoping by March I can be upto 10k that's my long goal if I can dodge injuries arrhh

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 16/11/2016 21:23

Get well soon Biking & Kiki.

Biking, I'm getting slower every week ATM! But I'm running for longer every week too so hopefully that balances it out Grin.

KikiNeedsABroom · 17/11/2016 07:00

Hi

Feeling much better this morning after a solid 9hrs of sleep! Won't be going out though and no time tomorrow as I've a birthday cake to assemble.

It sounds like you're doing great Empress. Hope you feel better soon too Biking

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 17/11/2016 07:07

Thanks Kiki, glad you're feeling better!

Biking007 · 17/11/2016 20:46

I swam 30L tonight so that has helped my need for exerciseSmileas had tough day at work. Foot was ok swimming but it was sore walking so needs bit more rest before walking then running. (But still plan to tap this weekend now for children in needGrin)I did have more stamina in the pool which running has really helped with.
Glad you on mend kiki

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 20/11/2016 15:34

It's been 2.5 weeks now, and my ankles/shins weren't hurting as much, so I decided to try again. Went back to the 10-10-5 pattern, and managed OK. Thought I'd have lost more fitness, but that wasn't too bad, actually. My shins aren't pain free, but not too bad. I guess it means I should just not go as often, and perhaps not try to increase it much. i wasn't really wanting to increase just yet, was going to stay at 25 min, but had been trying to change the pattern so it was longer in one go. Maybe need to do that more slowly though.

I never have sore thighs or bottom muscles, though, and I think that might be a problem - something about the way I run seems to over-use my calves, and not at all the other muscles!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/11/2016 20:48

Sounds like a plan, Crotchet. Glad your shins are feeling better.

I usually get aches in my thighs & knees.

Biking007 · 21/11/2016 19:29

I'm chomping at the bit to go out for a run but can't yet Sad now walking with out foot bandage so FingersXed I can try at the end of the week. Really hoping enforced 2wks off hasn't dented my stamina too much. My DH just gone out for a 10k whilst I put DDs to bed so I'm tad jealous...
Anyone else out running today? Been endless downpours and lots flooding down in SW today.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/11/2016 23:09

I had two weeks off at one point, Biking, I repeated a couple of runs & was fine from there. How was Children in Need?

Archduke · 22/11/2016 02:48

Hi there, I know you've all been at it for aages but do you mind a newbie joining?

I've just finished W1 R3 and feel FANTASTIC! Whereas after W1 R2 I felt like death warmed up. Weird.

Anyway I'm keen as mustard to keep going and have just registered for the local ParkRun. I'm so impressed with all of you on this thread, I can only dream of running longer than a minute at the moment I do suppose it's possible to run for 20 or 30 minutes but can't quite believe it.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 22/11/2016 04:09

Welcome to the thread Archduke!

I know exactly what you mean, three months ago I couldn't believe it either.

Mother Flowers
My knees have only just recovered from my Sunday run so I'm getting stricter about my stretching too. Hope you feel better soon.

Archduke, it was Parkrun that got me into this. I went along to one, having done no running since school, and gave up halfway round the first lap as most of them vanished into the distance. A coffee and cake later, I thought "Fuck it" and downloaded the app. Grin

justfor · 22/11/2016 13:19

Joining!

I just did W3/R2, though I'm actually a repeat C25K-er - never having enjoyed running at all, I did it about 5 years ago, and went on to 10km. I was so proud of myself...and I've no idea why I didn't carry on. I want to get back to it because I think it's the easiest way to fit exercise around family life. I prefer running outside (we live in the country so I can just go straight out of the house on to tracks through the fields), but I can only do that in daylight as there are no street lights, so sometimes, like today, I go on the treadmill at work during my lunch break.

Biking007 · 22/11/2016 18:23

I went and tried out 3k today to test out my sore foot. My head wanted to run and run after a week out of action but I tried to walk down the hill as that was making it sore but enjoyed the flat bits. Foot is in a support and bit sore but I'm glad I went out. Having got this far after 8wks I SO don't want to lose it and go backwards again.
mother hope the cold passes soon.
justfor running over fields sounds lovely hope you can find your running mojo again. It feels abit like a drug to me that I didn't quite get same buzz from swimming or cycling Smile even if they are bit gentler on my curvy frame than pounding the pavement!

squirrels89 · 22/11/2016 19:21

Can I join this thread please? I'm about to start wk 2. I was gobsmacked at starting this, I've put on 2 stone in a couple of years and stopped exercising completely, then a week ago I suddenly put on my running shoes and ran. C25k is a good pace for me, I'm old and have various health problems so hoping I can get a bit fitter and feel stronger.

Archduke · 23/11/2016 11:04

Squirrel I'm old too and also just starting w2. In fact just did w2r1, not easy but doable.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 23/11/2016 11:19

Welcome everybody.

Give it a few weeks and you'll be looking back at your old posts & marvelling at how far you've come!

KikiNeedsABroom · 23/11/2016 11:47

Welcome newbies, well done Crochet and commiserations to all the poorly ones.

I've walked 2.1m with the double today so thinking I will go jog on Friday and see how I go.

ScarlettDarling · 23/11/2016 22:19

Bugger. Week 8, run 2, the 28 minute run and I was so exhausted half way through I had to walk for a couple of minutes. I'm so cross with myself, I did 28 mins on Saturday just fine and today, for the first time in the programme, I didn't manage to do the whole running time. Sad

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/11/2016 06:24

Scarlett, if you've got all the way to W8R2 and this is the first time you've walked an extra bit you're doing brilliantly!

You know you can do it so you'll do it on the next run.

ScarlettDarling · 24/11/2016 07:54

Thanks empress , don't know what went wrong, perhaps I was going too fast instead of my usual snail's pace!

How's your 10k going?
