Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Yay Scarlett!!!!!

Howlongtillbedtime · 09/11/2016 18:07

Thanks for the welcome Annette

WWk 4 r1 done Grin ( still on the treadmill ) but it is fine .

I am pleased I went back to wk4. I managed it but the last 2 mins was a struggle so hopefully I have pitched it right .

Next chance probably won't be until Saturday and then Sunday which isn't ideal but I don't want to make excuses and persuade myself to give up .

I have had a mooch on the thread and so many of you have done amazingly . I will keep reading for inspiration.

Howlongtillbedtime · 12/11/2016 11:49

Hello all , did I scare everyone off ?

Wk4 r2 done this morning . I felt ok when I got to the end so I carried on with the same pattern until I got to 5k . It took me 38 1/2 mins which is slow but I think about 15 mins of that is walking .

Anyway hopefully will do run 3 tomorrow and then start wk 5 which is a bit scary .

HepKestrel · 12/11/2016 13:30

Have fallen off the c25k wagon.... It's been a week since my last run w4r2. Have a
Work trip next week, so I'll restart when I get back.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/11/2016 13:42

Well done Bedtime!

Kestrel, life's temporarily got in the way so I'm taking a few days off too. I told Bedtime you're the one to talk to about running inside.

AnnettePrice · 12/11/2016 14:01

Bedtime you haven't killed it. It can be up and down as it seems people's non-run days seem to fall on the same days sometimes.
Your doing really well. W5R3 can feel really daunting, most of it is head games. See what I wrote to Empress
(I would cut and paste but I'm on my phone so will try to remember later).

Kestrel Think positively, you are taking a break but you will be running again really soon. Remember how good it feels. Start planning now the week after you get back from your trip.
Hope your trip goes well.

For all that are finding it difficult to get out in the rain and don't have or don't want gym membership, there are some pay as you go gym options. Have a google and see if any gyms near you belong to any.
I think it's the only way I'm going to get around the early nights and bad weather.

HepKestrel · 12/11/2016 14:41

Hi bedtime yes i am a treadmill runner ! I head to a convenient gym after work. I find it useful to pace myself.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/11/2016 14:59

Here we go. I was nervous about W5R3 & I'd said I was going to do some more 10 min runs first. This should be pinned at the top of the thread.

09/10/2016 12:56 AnnettePrice

Empress please do the 10 mins, then if you feel like you can still keep running for another step, do that step, keep on doing the one extra running step.

Then you will realise that you are not so far off 15 mins so you might as well keep going until then.

Once you get to 15mins you are already 3/4 of the way there and you're on the home straight.

Start to imagine how good it will feel to have done 20 mins. Imagine it so much you feel like you could almost touch it. Think of what treat would you give to yourself if you do it?

Then before you know it, your 20 mins will be up.

The 20 min run is there to prove you can do it, but I would say it is more a head thing than physical. Physically it not easy but it's no harder than how any of the previous runs are, and you have done those :-)

And it worked.

I think I'm going to make myself run in the rain at least once before booking into a gym, just to see what it's actually like.

Howlongtillbedtime · 12/11/2016 15:32

Thank you both . It looks like good advice about the 20min run . It just seems a huge leap. My next challenge will be to get outside and brave the world . My dh runs and my 10 yr old put me to shame a couple of weeks ago when he ran a 5k with him .
They both want to start doing park run and want me to go as well which I would like to but need to know I can cover it first on my own .

I just can't imagine being able to do the whole thing in a semi decent time . I know the time shouldn't matter .........

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/11/2016 16:01

I went to a parkrun just under 3 months ago, before I'd done any running practice, & struggled halfway round the first lap before giving up as I panted & almost everyone else faded into the distance. Took me straight back to school cross country.

At that point I thought fuck this, staggered off to the nearest cafe for comfort & started the C25K that afternoon.

I didn't have the faintest idea I'd end up here. I will go back to parkrun but I want to be running 5K in 30 mins or so first. I know it's a run not a race but it will just make me more comfortable.

Howlongtillbedtime · 12/11/2016 16:15

I am looking at 35 and I will do it (lower standards Grin)
Have you found a big difference in your speed now you are just running rather than the stop start ? I am struggling to imagine ever getting there just now .

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/11/2016 16:50

I'm not sure whether it's to do with pacing myself or tiredness or what, but I am still faster on the stop-starts than on the just running sometimes.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 12/11/2016 18:19

Impromptu gym run.
Thought after the first five minute walk would see how long i could run for
Managed 15 minutes without a stopShock followed by ten without a stop.
Still the same pace but running longer
Am going to some weights and then head home
Am Grin and Shock

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/11/2016 18:30

Hobnobs, wow! Nice one!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 12/11/2016 19:02

Thanks
Home in the bath now with a g and t
Grin
I know a treadmill is different to outside but I do always put a slight incline on.
Only been back a few weeks and so far so good
Makes me Angry at myself for stopping for so long. I know next time even if I am laid up for a week or two to just drop back a few levels and you do get back up quicker than you expect.

HepKestrel · 13/11/2016 10:32

That's sounds like my sort of post run recovery Grin

Howlongtillbedtime · 13/11/2016 11:03

Wk4 r3 done ! Phew ,

I love the sound of a post run bath with a g n t Grin possibly a little early in the day just now .

I am glad to see another treadmill user .

DropZoneOne · 13/11/2016 21:47

Thanks Empress and Annette. I was away again with work last week, which makes it tricky to get out. But the hotel I was in had a small gym, so I tried running on a treadmill for the first time in a very long time!

Re-did W5R1, and it was easy in comparison to being outside, once I'd worked out what my pace needed to be. Back home, went out again, did a different route to usual to avoid the hills, and it was still tough. It was drizzling when I set off, and proper raining by half way round! I'm not sure I'm cut out for autumn/winter running, despite buying myself a long-sleeved top and leggings from Decathlon as an incentive!

I don't feel ready to move onto R2 when I'm finding this so much tougher than before. Can I just keep redoing R1 until it feels easier?

compostheap · 13/11/2016 21:51

Hello!
Haven't posted for a bit, but I have been reading posts and am inspired by the thought of people going on to 10k - I even found myself daydreaming about beating competing against DH in our town 10k next year!
So, I've now done W5R1 twice as I only found out that I hadn't downloaded W5R2 after I left the house tonight, and it was too wet and cold to even think about heading in to download it, as I would never have gone out again..... I am very nervous about runs 2 and 3, but have re-read Annette's post and am steeling myself!

KikiNeedsABroom · 14/11/2016 12:13

Hi OP with another name change... I finally got out on Friday after a month off! Did 3x 3mins and it wasn't too bad. Did it again Sunday. Hoping I can do a week 4 this week and get back on track to week 5 soon.

So glad to read of all the successes and well done to everyone who has kept going!

Biking007 · 14/11/2016 15:00

Hi I've just got to the end of week7 and managed 25mins non stop and another 10mins mix of run /walk to hit the 5km mark. I super proud of myself. Have any of you found a great bra for big boobs? I'm currently wearing two bras a platex type granny one to up lift and a shock absorber over the top! It works as no bounce but bit uncomfy around the band so more than 45mins and I can't wait to get it off. I'm 38G.
I've also discovered strava app on with the NHS podcast 5k graduate both together give me really gd motivation as strava tells me every 0.5k and the podcast has Beaty music with time interruptions to try increase my pace as I'm really slow. I found the standard nhs app C25k didn't have enough updates in wk7 so I was running slower and slower as it went on.Grin

Biking007 · 14/11/2016 15:59

Ooooh no looks interesting I may have to try, I do feel like a flipping Japanese geisha women with boobs all bound up to stop bounceing. I normally cycle to avoid it but with the dark nights I thought I'd try running and I've really been getting a buzz out itSmile and the sheer convenience of niping out for half hr is fab with busy family/work life. I'm not brave enough yet to go at work lunchtime as I'm quite curvy size 16, and get very red!

Biking007 · 14/11/2016 16:00

I prefer running in the darkGrin

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 14/11/2016 20:28

Sounds like you're doing brilliantly, Biking!
