Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Well that was a damp squib Sad
Did the 5 minute watm up ok but as soon as I started running developed a horrible "stitch" like pain.
Every time I started running the pain came back.
Had to give up and walk it.
No idea why but feel really Sad

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 05/11/2016 20:48

Poor you Hobnob. CakeBrewFlowers

AnnettePrice · 06/11/2016 11:24

Drop After a month off if I didn't do other exercise instead, I would find it very hard too.
Congratulations on turning it around and getting back out there. Hopefully next run won't be so hard.

I do find that for me the cold air can give me ear ache and when it gets really cold the air I breath in has in the past hurt my throat.
I'm finding in ear headphones are doing the trick at the moment, but I will be swapping to a wide hair band or ear covering headband when it gets a little cooler.
ive not worked out how to deal with my throat and if it gets bad this winter it's the one thing that might get me in the gym.

AnnettePrice · 06/11/2016 11:35

hobnob I really feel for you, I've had a few minor stitches but not too painful so have been able to run through them and I know I have been lucky.
I found this www.runnersworld.com/injury-prevention-recovery/how-to-beat-side-stitches

I'm sure mine was food induced. Diet Coke within 30mins of starting to run seems not to agree with meBlush
Yep, I have no idea what I was thinking Hmm
I hope you don't get another, but if you do, l hope you work out what is triggering yours.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 06/11/2016 12:55

I saw a sports massage person for a short time today but it was too sore for her to really do anything, but she's given me some exercises and said no jogging for two weeks. Not sure what fitness I'll have left by then, given how slowly I've been building it up, but hopefully I'll be able to get back into it.

ScarlettDarling · 06/11/2016 13:19

Well done Empress and Annette I'm well impressed!

I've just done week 6 run 1 and after doing the week 5 run 3 20 minute run 3 times I thought it would be a breeze but still I didn't find it easy! Still, I'm keeping on. Think I might need to buy some proper running kit now it's getting colder. The leggings and t shirt aren't cutting it any more!

AnnettePrice · 06/11/2016 13:23

Crochet I really think that it's progress. Being able to sort yourself out and hopefully stop it happening again is really worth it. Especially for 2 weeks out.
Do some nice things for yourself these next 2 weeks when you would usually run. Look after yourself and I hope to see you back here soon Flowers

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 06/11/2016 13:51

thank you. I hope I will get back to it!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 06/11/2016 14:35

Cheers Scarlett!

I'm running in long sleeves & leggings at the moment but even if I start off thinking I need more than one layer, I end up pulling the top one off quite quickly.

Good luck Crotchet.

I've just created the new thread at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/2774730-Crossing-the-bridge-from-5-to-10K.

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/11/2016 20:28

Hello all , I am after some advice please .

I tried doing couch to 5k but got fed up . I also do iron a treadmill as I can't face doing it outside where I will see other people (2 1/2 stone to lose at least and live in a village where I will definitely see people )

Currently I am going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week and covering 5k but I have been doing this for ages and i dont I am getting any better .

Should I go back and re start or join in the middle somewhere ? Or are some people just crap at running ?

I am feeling a bit disheartened and would really appreciate some advice . Even if the advice is a kick up my ample rear !

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 07/11/2016 20:45

Hi bedtime.

No kicks here!

The main thing that made me stick with the programme was this thread, it's great company & motivation. If you fancy a new challenge, some of us are graduating now & aiming for 10K and I opened a new thread for that this morning: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/2774730-Crossing-the-bridge-from-5-to-10K.

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/11/2016 20:56

Thanks Empress I really can't imagine aiming for 10k at the minute . Very impressed you are even thinking about it .

I am going to have a look at the weeks again and maybe start in the middle ?

And i am going to have a read of the thread for some tips .

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 07/11/2016 21:31

Sounds like a plan!

I can't quite believe I'm thinking about it either.

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/11/2016 21:53

I have had a look at the thread and at the plan and I am going to start again at wk 4 . I don't think I can get to the gym before Wednesday after work but I really want to do this .

Has anybody else done the plan on a treadmill ? Did you then transition to going outdoors and if so how did you find it ?

I also need to look at trainers of anyone has any advice that would be fab .

Thank you .

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 07/11/2016 22:01

You want HepKestrel, she uses a treadmill.

If you Google gait analysis in your area you should find running shops where you can go along & get advice on the best trainers for you.

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/11/2016 22:07

Thanks Empress you have been a star .

I am now off to stalk HepKestrel Grin

Hi Scarlett i'm rather loving my decathlon warm running top (brushed fleecy material on inside, smooth on outside).
I wouldn't say that any step up on the C25k was easy but they are doable. Always just a little more of a push so you don't notice that you are getting better in some ways. I am sure now though that if you dropped back a few weeks and then did that run you would be able to do it at a pace that you would have considered impossible when you did it the 1st time.

AnnettePrice · 08/11/2016 14:48

Welcome bedtime
Please don't rule out running outside. When it's good weather it's wonderful especially if you live in the countryside and you can get out onto the local footpaths and trails.

I live in a small town and I only see 2 or 3 dog walkers when I'm on my local paths. People don't stray far from their houses and the shops and if they do it's usually in a car.

Though when the weather turns really cold, raining or snowing I will be seriously envious of you running inside :-)

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 09/11/2016 08:59

How's everyone doing?

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/11/2016 09:14

Still resting! Less pain now at least. Not feeling at all like starting back up though. And the rain and cold doesn't help...

What is this fleecy-lined running top? Have you a link? I always get so hot once I'm going, but cold to start with, and a long sleeved top might help, if it was still wicking. Maybe I should ask for something for Christmas. I wear a running jacket on top though as I need a pocket for my phone.

AnnettePrice · 09/11/2016 11:07

www.decathlon.co.uk/ekiden-warm-jersey-id_8311603.html

I wear a summer running vest underneath. Then when it's colder I'll swap to long sleeved top underneath.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/11/2016 13:50

oh that looks nice, like the colours. It doesn't have pockets, does it? I would probably wear a jacket on top anyway, which would have them, but might be too hot.

Maybe it'll be my treat to get me back into it again, if the ankle pain ever properly goes away!

ScarlettDarling · 09/11/2016 16:10

Annette that top looks great, great price too, I'll order one as a treat for doing week 6 run 3 today....a 25 min run!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Grin
