Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

If anyone wants some inspiration I was talking to someone at work who started off with C25K & now does marathons & Iron Man events & that sort of thing....Grin.

Hope you're enjoying your day off, Kelly.

HepKestrel · 11/10/2016 11:11

Empress Hmm

i am feeling good today and itching to run again ? is this the "honeymoon" phase ? not sure it'll last !!

confession: i am just using the running machine at the gym to start.... will need to work on my confidence before venturing outside.... and finding a nice route!

Bb90 · 11/10/2016 12:13

Went for a 2mile jog/walk , did it in 33mins not sure if good or bad
Planned to repeat Thursday

Why are my shoulders hurting- random I know

BasinHaircut · 11/10/2016 14:53

Hi all, sorry I dropped off the thread but it's been crazy busy. Have just finished week 7, so tomorrow is my first 28 min run!

In other news I've just signed up to a half marathon in March! Shock

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 11/10/2016 14:55

Wow Shock

Impressive.

I have been out again today, adding another 30 seconds at a time. Shin pain coming back a bit though, which is annoying. And weight hasn't shifted at all, though to be fair I've not really been dieting as hard as I should be. thought the running would help a bit more though!

HepKestrel · 11/10/2016 17:15

Crotchet maybe its all being converted to muscle Smile

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 11/10/2016 19:17

I wish! Sadly it's as wobbly and fat as ever, gives people something to laugh at as I walk by on the way to the park, or as I'm running around...

HepKestrel · 11/10/2016 22:36

More people will be admiring your effort than laughing at you I promise.

Do you fully stretch to try to avoid shin pain?

HepKestrel · 12/10/2016 06:48

Eek. I'm stiff this morning

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 12/10/2016 08:25

W6R1 done. Does anyone else get a rush of energy near the end? It's when I have a couple of minutes to go and want to see how far I can get.

My legs are usually fine after until they meet stairs.

How was the 28 min, Basin?

Crotchet, I'd respect you for being out there instead of on the couch!

I'm sure the nice people don't think twice about seeing me, or think that it's good I'm not just on the couch.

it's the creepy ones - it's not that often, but you get ones that will run up to you and then lumber along next to you in imitation, laughing at you. Or calling stuff out, especially if you are on a circular route. Or the ones standing in front of the pub that I have to pass to get to the park. Just the odd calling out, or sniggering noises or whatever. I keep my headphones on, and pretend like I don't even notice, even though it really annoys me. Mostly it's just looks from teenagers etc.

I stretch my calves beforehand and do some toe-raises, as that's supposed to help, but haven't noticed much difference whether I do or not! Oddly, I don't have leg pain, even stairs etc, don't feel it at all, which is making me think I'm not really using the right muscles, and that's why my ankles/shins are pulling or something. I'd have expected my thighs or bottom to feel it, but not at all. Of course it could be because I'm not working that hard yet, as I'm increasing the times so slowly. Maybe that will come!!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 12/10/2016 12:55

I don't know about the shoulders Bb but there is no good or bad time IMO - it takes what it takes!

Crotchet Flowers Twats.

I'm starting to think it would be good to run to music, especially with more of the long runs coming up. I've been singing songs in my head for the past couple of runs. I'll have to think about what I'd like to run to.

ScarlettDarling · 12/10/2016 12:57

Oh my goodness...I actually did week 5 run 2! Been stuck on run 1 for about 2 weeks as didn't believe I could do the 8 mins...but I did!!! Grin

HepKestrel · 12/10/2016 15:23

Bb could it be you need a new sports bra?

Congratulations Scarlett!

w1r2 tonight after work......

hopefully the last run with the rubbish headphones.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 12/10/2016 15:29

Well done Scarlett!!!!

Good luck, Hep.

thanks empress and Mother

tomorrow may be a challenge for me. I can't go to the gym after work..... so I either have to try to escape work for lunch...... or brave running out in public on saturday.

Mother did you manage a run this morning?

I am using the nhs app. Apparently you can set it up so you can listen to music between the walk/run prompts...... may have to investigate how to do it ! think on longer runs, music will help me. yesterday, i was on the running machine watching pointless !! didn't notice the time so much when struggling with "countries with more that 9 letters in the name" ..Smile

AnnettePrice · 13/10/2016 12:00

yesterday W7R2 done
legs felt like lead as I did my undulating route. TBH I was really not in a good mood before I started. But I did it, and I felt a lot better after and I did brighten up somewhat after it.

Crotchet I can't believe you have had to put up with that :-S

Basin I had been wondering how you had been doing, Good on you !!!, I'm thinking of finding a 10k to do before even contemplating 1/2 marathon Shock

Empress & Kestrel I can not believe you don't run to music. For me it keeps me going, I have a running play list which has all my music that has a tempo that fits well with my running pace. I do think it is helping me keep the same pace for the 1st half and the 2nd half of my runs.

Regarding the app, if it does not have integrated music playing, start playing your music 1st then go to the c25k app and start that after. Check to see if the app has a choice as to whether to stop the music or lower the volume when the app gives sound or voice instructions etc.

Mother if I do runs one day after the next, I try to do the 1st in the morning and the 2nd the day after in the evening, trying to give 1/2 a day more of rest between them.

Bb I have a shoulder injury at the moment and running does make it a little sore sometimes but not really bad. Check your bra strap is not over the joint and digging in. Check your posture www.runnersworld.com/running-tips/perfect-running-form

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 13/10/2016 12:22

Luckily the majority of crap is only very occasional. Most of the time it's just some looks on my way to the park. But still cringeworthy. I do look ridiculous, in my tight leggings at my size (but they're supposed to support by back) and such a red, sweaty face, even when I'm not that out of breath. And massive headphone pads sticking out form the side of my head. But anyway, still doing it. I did my Stage 5, run 8 today, which was over 20 minutes of running in total, with about 5 minutes of walking throughout it. And walking for warm up and cool down.

I listen to music too. I start the music first. Then start map my run to record my time and distance. then start my interval run timer app to tell me when to walk/run. Then I put it on 'guided access' covering the whole screen, as that means that the phone never goes off, but that it doesn't matter if it gets touched in my pocket as the screen won't respond. Otherwise, I either turn the screen off, and sometimes that makes the apps stop recording or stop giving audible instructions after a certain amount of time. Or I leave it on, and then risk ringing someone or pausing the app or whatever by accidentally touching the screen when it's in my pocket.

HepKestrel · 13/10/2016 12:37

ooh... looks like i'll spend this weekend constructing a running tracklist !
