Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Can I join you wonderful people!? booked my first 5K for December - a santa run!!!

I am on week 6 day 3 - 25 min run.... but its been 6 days since day 2 :(

I'm losing motivation the longer I wait but finding the time to fit in 35 mins alone is hard.

OH works nights so the DD's have to join me (5 and 7) and they cannot scoot for that length of time without crying (the 5 year old!) and I'm struggling to get up early enough to run before work.

I prefer running outside with somewhere to go, if that makes sense. I did the early weeks over the common running up and down the path whilst the girls played, but I can't run for longer periods up and down a path, need to feel like I'm going somewhere. and I don't like the treadmill for long periods.

HepKestrel · 13/10/2016 16:19

hello Xmas

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 11:13

It's gone very quiet.....

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 15/10/2016 11:28

Well done, Annette!

Welcome to the thread, Xmas! I can definitely understand preferring to have somewhere to go. How early do you have to be up to run before work?

AnnettePrice · 15/10/2016 11:30

Sorry Xmas you haven't killed the thread. Sometimes I think our non-run days align and so it goes quiet, then it goes manic when we have all been for a run.
Hi 👋 the one place I see possibilities in your day is when your DCs are at school. I presume your really busy doing things then, it is wether you can modify what your doing. If your working, can you run to or from work? If you end up doing big supermarket shop can you do it online in the evening when the DCs are asleep and glass of wine in hand.

AnnettePrice · 15/10/2016 11:33

Oops, sorry Xmas I didn't see that you worked and I didn't like to presume.
How do you get to and from work?

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 11:47

I walk 2 days a week to work but have too much stuff for running to work.
The other 2 days I walk but via school on the school run walk!

On my walk to work only days I leave at 7:30, it isn't out of the question to fit it in but it's so dark out it's a struggle getting out of bed!!!

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 11:48

I did complete week 6 yesterday with a 25 min run. It was a week late but I was impressed that inmanaged it after 7 days off

AnnettePrice · 15/10/2016 14:47

W7R3 done
It was a beautiful autumnal day and it definitely felt better than last run.

Hope you are all having a good day today, I know that where I live the weather isn't meant to be do good tomorrow.

Xmas congrats on the run!! Double yay for finding the time and getting it done :-)

Motheroff did you get the music-app thing sorted?

HepKestrel · 15/10/2016 14:58

w1r3 complete.

didn't quite sort the music..... my phone played the music louder than the prompts from the app, so didn't quite work how i wanted it too. couldn't hear the prompts.

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 15:01

Don't think I could keep running without music!!

Got some headphones now so when I do W6R2 on Monday I'll see what a difference the music makes!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 19:04

I remembered that there was a race in the park where I usually go tomorrow morning, which was when I'd planned my next run, so I went this evening instead, just as it was getting dark. It was also starting to rain, so the combination made it a little bit slippery, and I wouldn't have wanted it to be any darker or wetter. I could just about manage. Feeling more able to do the distances, but getting more pain in my shins, even though I stretch my calves before hand. At least I have two days break I guess before the next one, which might help.

and my distance app quit half way, so I didn't get to see whether I'd got further or faster than before. I'm only adding on 30 seconds so probably not much further, and the bit that it did record showed it was a bit slower than usual, so maybe it's good that I can't see the full result!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 15/10/2016 19:09

You got out there & did it though, Crotchet!

I went for a long walk today instead - Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill & Regents Park. Lovely wander & some beautiful views.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 19:53

oh that does sound nice, and some good places to get a run in! Where I live is utterly, utterly, flat. Which makes it easier for this, it's true, but will be difficult if I do ever want to run somewhere with hills! :)

Wine and ready-meal curry now, might be undoing any good I did with the run. My shins always feel better when i stop, although sore to the touch, so I don't know if I'm doing damage by carrying on when they're like that or not. Physio hasn't been a lot of help really; she would rather I don't run, but it's the only exercise that I am likely to stick to, so I do want to get up to the 30 minutes one day.

I have two complete sets of clothing, sports bra, t-shirt, jacket, socks, and aim to wear them twice each and wash them all at the end of the week. I have a feeling it's not enough though, or maybe the smell is getting permanent. I could wear them only once each, but that would be a lot of washing of very small loads, and/or buy some more and/or find some better washing powder! I use the Vanish gold stain remover, normal Persil detergent, and a 60 degree wash, which I thought would kill whatever bacteria there was, but I guess I need more. Blush

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 19:55

oh and leggings/tights, which I only have one pair of and wash separately after about four wearings, because they have to be washed on a lower temperature and not tumble dried (they are special support ones that are supposed to be good for helping with back pain, etc, so can't be washed with the rest). But they don't seem to need it the way the rest of the clothes do.

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 20:12

I could do with some new gear. Any recommendations?

Currently running in cropped leggings or OH shorts, vest or massive tshirt and sports bra (I have 2 and rotate after each use)

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 20:36

I've just got a couple of t-shirts from Sports Direct, think they're Nike dri-fit, but a sort of mesh kind that feel more comfortable than the slightly shiny ones that are also called dri-fit! And whatever cheap running jackets they had. And cheap baseball cap, though not worn it yet. The leggings were super-expensive to make up for the cheap t-shirts/jackets!! Cost a fortune, but I've got back pain and so on, and hoped that these would help. I think that they do, but they're probably for thinner people really, as I find they roll down (they're made of tight, supportive elastic, which is good, until you sit down and the waist rolls over several times, even with the largest size!). I'm sure on someone with a flatter stomach already, they'd be OK. It's also quite embarrassing as they are close-fitting, like tights. I used to wear yoga pants, which were loose and flappy - probably not as good for running, but felt more covered up. I worry that tight clothes give more ammunition for those wanting to call things out. One of the jackets is good and covers my bottom and stays below; the other covers it when I'm standing still but as I run, it rides up to my waist at the back and I have to keep trying to pull it down. I guess a bigger size would have been better - there was one bigger available - but the sleeves were way too long and it felt too big overall. I hadn't realised that being closer fitting around the hips would cause such riding up though. Still, not going to buy anything else for now - maybe when I reach my 30 min goal...

oh and proper shoes, Asics, with orthotics.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 15/10/2016 20:44

I've just switched from shorts to leggings but I normally just go to Sports Direct for them.

I have just got a Karrimor winter running jacket but it hasn't been cold enough for it yet.

As for flat, my running track of choice is almost as flat as it gets!

Xmasfairy86 · 15/10/2016 20:49

I wore a hoody yesterday morning and a bra. No top. Was ok but usually get too hot so only wear vest/tee even in rain/cold.

Sports direct needs to be hit

Mirandawest · 15/10/2016 20:52

Did rather less running on honeymoon than intended but did walk a lot. Here's a picture of us having just run round the Cebtrsl Park reservoir (only 2.5k but felt like more!)

I use halo sports wash at 30 to stop the wiff. Seems to be working so far.
My fav places for running kit other than bras are
www.decathlon.co.uk
Shop and web, their cheap tops are excellent, not so keen on the bottoms but maybe it's my shape, large variety of sizes. Their non running kit is excellent as well.
TKmax is good just depends what they have in.
Nike seems to fit me so my bottoms come from their outlet stores.
I have often used www.sportpursuit.com for very good quality kit at decent price (can also have better sizes than high street) but I haven't used them for running kit as such.

AnnettePrice · 15/10/2016 21:12

Kestrel congrats on finishing your 1st week 🎉
Maybe a tinker with the app and music on your rest day? I use the 'get running' iOS app , I like that the female voice sounds like Holly from red dwarf Grin

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 21:14

I've heard of the Halo stuff, haven't seen it in any of my local (small) supermarkets but maybe I need to look in one of the big ones. Even on 60, the smell seems to be persisting in the t-shirts otherwise.
