Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Did run 1 on Tuesday, wasn't that bad!!! Will be trying to repeat again today. Although I was over enthusiastic on Tuesday and added a few squats and press ups after , still aching! Will power needed to ignore aches and still run!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/10/2016 17:39

Welcome Bb!

It gets easier. Although I admit to not having tried including squats & press ups.

AnnettePrice · 07/10/2016 21:06

Good going Bb not sure about the press ups but squats I was reading are good for running (something about glutes)
W6R3 done. Did 4.3k in 25 mins, so just need to have the same pace when I do 30min run to get the 5k,

Have any of you found good places to run in the morning and/or evening now the days are getting shorter?

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 08/10/2016 18:47

Good on you Annette, that must have been so satisfying.

South Bank in the mornings is still perfect for me.

MrsKellyJones · 08/10/2016 20:42

Hi all

Haven't been out for ages! Will see if I can force myself out 1st thing in the morning for a week 5 run 1 which is what I did last I was out.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 09/10/2016 12:11

Done W5R2 twice now but I still think W5R3 (20 mins non-stop) is pushing it. I think I'm going to try two 10 min runs with a 5 min walk tomorrow morning & see how that goes.

Kelly, when I had a week off at that point I just found I'd slowed down a bit. My body knew it could do W5R1 though, so it just got on with it!

AnnettePrice · 09/10/2016 12:56

Empress please do the 10 mins, then if you feel like you can still keep running for another step, do that step, keep on doing the one extra running step.
Then you will realise that you are not do far off 15 mins so you might as well keep going until then.
Once you get to 15mins you are already 3/4 of the way their and your on the home straight.
Start to imagine how good it will feel to have done 20 mins. Imagine it so much you feel like you could almost touch it. Think of what treat would you give to yourself if you do it?
Then before you know it, your 20 mins will be up.

The 20 min run is there to prove you can do it, but I would say it is more a head thing than physical. Physically it not easy but it's no harder than how any of the previous runs are, and you have done those :-)

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 09/10/2016 13:24

That sounds like a really good idea, Annette. Thanks, I'll try it.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/10/2016 14:39

I'm not ready for 20 min in a row yet either!! I've now done 20 min with several break, and I'm gradually adding tiny intervals to get to 25 min with breaks. Then might start reducing them.

If you have any injuries, then it's worth being careful and not pushing on too much - even 30sec extra can set me back awhile, it seems, if I'm not ready for it. Plantar fasciitis, tendon problems, shin pain etc. come back very very quickly.

When I get to the point of two lots of 10 min, then I'm going start moving the break by one minute each time I think, so that I can tell myself it's the same amount as before, but 11 and 9, etc., until it's closer and closer to 20 all in a row.

I'm feeling a bit fitter now, and heart rate and breathing back to normal much faster, but what doesn't go away is the sweaty red face, for over an hour afterwards. Makes it very difficult to arrange to run when I have various clients in the day, since I don't just have to be back in time, but also for an extra hour or more to let my face approach normal colour and temp. No chance of putting make up on for quite a while, either. I tried the Magic Cool spray, but it didn't help. Don't know what else I can do! It's also really getting to steamy glasses weather, which is embarrasing and makes me look like i'm sweating so hard, when it's mostly just the waether. Can't see very well that way either!

MrsKellyJones · 09/10/2016 17:01

Sounds like you're all doing well.

Aimed for 3x5 minutes and ended up doing 5 then 4 and then 3. Not too bad considering it's been about 10 days if not 2 weeks since I last got out.

Felt painful but good so will try and get out more regularly again. Real life got in the way a bit lately.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/10/2016 08:37

I RAN FOR 20 MINS WITHOUT STOPPING!

Annette, you were right - thank you! Star

Googlemaps says that was 1.7 miles, so about 8.5 mins a mile. I'll take that for now Grin

I can't believe I actually did that. A couple of months ago I was sweating after 60 seconds.

Seriously proud of myself 😀😀😀😀😀

AnnettePrice · 10/10/2016 09:09

YAY!!! Go you 🎉
You should be proud of yourself

YOU DID IT!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Now remember the feeling, what it felt like before, and how you felt like after.
Save your MN post somewhere. Then if you feel that feeling that you did before the run again, just remember that you overcame and you did it!!! 🏃‍♀️

AnnettePrice · 10/10/2016 09:11

Lol, emojis are different on preview than when posted.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/10/2016 09:16

GrinGrinGrin

I got to the 10 mins near Waterloo Bridge, decided I could get a bit further, reset my timer & the next time I looked I was past the Eye and had 4 mins to go.

Once I'd got my breath back & run out of people to squeal at I looked back through my posts on this thread. I started on 20 Aug & 60 secs was a struggle then!

Just reached work. Do you want to have a coffee on the South Bank sometime?

HepKestrel · 10/10/2016 10:48

Hi,
Can I join?
bought my first pair of running shoes yesterday (went to local independent running shop for advice) and am starting after work today. I am lazy by nature, so peer pressure maybe needed to keep me at it ! Have found many excuses over the last couple of months not to start.

MrsKellyJones · 10/10/2016 11:05

Well done, that is amazing! Must be a great encouragement to have such a scenic place to run too.

I think the key to C25K is regularly getting out and doing more and more each time.

Hi Kestrel welcome aboard. I'm not the poster girl as life gets so busy that I struggle to find the time, but it really is doable. Let us know how your first run goes.

Empress as someone who can barely run to the next bus stop, I am impressed with your 20 min run !! congratulations.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/10/2016 15:09

Thank you Wine.

Honestly though, less than two months ago completing W1 felt like a pipe dream! Like Kelly says though, I think it's just the keeping on going & your legs get used to it. And this group is a huge help. Flowers

AnnettePrice · 10/10/2016 15:26

Empress coffee sounds good will PM you. I'm just not up for running to work yet even if I brave the commuters and tourists. My workbag is way too heavy.

Kestrel Welcome Smile Looking forward to hearing how you get on. It's the getting out there and doing it, do not worry about speed (I am sure snails overtake me Wink).

It's when life throws you off the 3 runs a week, it can get hard to re-motivate. so Motheroff good effort

HepKestrel · 10/10/2016 15:57

thanks all!

Annette i know with my experience of going to the gym, that once i start, i'm not too bad at going regularly, but if i am forced to stop (e.g. illness, work, holidays) then i fall off the wagon very easily ! And in fact haven't been for over 6 months now.

Unfortunately i know i have a work trip in november coming up, so hoping i navigate the running around it Hmm

HepKestrel · 10/10/2016 19:52

so week 1 run 1 completed ! will try to do weds and fri to not over do it. wasn't too bad, but need to get better headphones !

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/10/2016 20:00

Well done Mother and Hep!

Annette, that sounds like a good reason to me. I'm lucky there, I don't have to carry much.

MrsKellyJones · 10/10/2016 20:13

Whooohooo Kestrel

I have an unplanned day off tomorrow so can get out midweek which has always been the problem...just need to fit it in between 2 school runs, shopping delivery, cake for a friend's birthday etc - you get the idea Wink
