Great running everyone glad your hip is feeling better keyser.

8.2 to add from me for 2 runs. Thursday I ran part the way home and yesterday I had the final event in my club's Grand Prix.

It's a great 5 mile through woodlands and road in a village about 30 mins away. An afternoon race which has beer at the water stationsGrin

I have won my division so was happy to soak up the atmosphere and pootle along. One of my friends in club who is slower was wondering how she would do so I stayed with her and paced her to a PB. Lots of fun and beautiful scenery. Great day.

Some of you might be interested in this thread here about running and ageing. I have already put my two pence in.

Opps must have picked the wrong page to get the mileage..... 124.5

familygermsareok · 06/06/2016 19:28

Interesting thread Halle. I do find the general obsession about looking young forever a bit depressing and unrealistic.
Glad your hip is improving keyser
I like the sound of your beer stop race Purpletoes, and well done on your race lastqueen
Hope the running is helping your friend cinnamon. I find it is hugely beneficial for my mental wellbeing.

10.6 and 5.5 from Fri and today. Quads feeling a bit stiff and sore, unusual for me. Had planned longer run today but thought I'd be sensible.

She's doing better thanks familygermsareok, it varies of it helps or hinders. If she has a bad run or doesn't do as well as she thinks she should it knocks her more unfortunately Sad

3.3 with my neighbour tonight, dogs were a bit of a pain and it was pretty warm! 143.9

3.3 after work tonight. V warm and super sweaty! Slowly trying to increase my time but it's a slog!
I love the camaraderie between runners. I went past a couple of others whilst out tonight, we always say hello, evening etc... You wouldn't otherwise get that I don't think, people tend to keep themselves to themselves....in their own little worlds. I love it, it's a little nod to the fact we're both out there, doing something.

Clocking in for a new month. Race for life triple challenge at the weekend clocked up 20k so just converting for total

Also some advice needed. I have a 25k trail run on sat 18th in Derbyshire. I can drop to the 10k which I know will be fine. I think I can do 25 with some walking thrown in but have not done that distance for a while...which should I do???

Nice run in forest; deliberately slow as it was hot and I really wanted to run all the hills. So very chuffed that I managed them all, 600 ft of ascent and no walking! Trying to build up my mental strength for Glen Cie as I think that plays a big part in my decisions to walk in races. Warm weather is lovely, but was very jealous of dog who's route involved running through all the streams!
I don't know standing, would it bother you to walk bits of the longer race? If you think you wouldn't enjoy it, do the shorter one.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/06/2016 21:14

I'd drop down but that's just me standingonlego! If you feel it wouldn't be too miserable then go for the longer distance.

It was a warm one but we still ran and ran well Smile. Met my horrible neighbour with her four dogs on the way out so he to take a detour! 175.07

Organisers confirmed they are happy for me to decide on the day so will see what the weather is like Smile. Happy to run/walk it. Will let you know how it goes!

familygermsareok · 07/06/2016 23:10

I'm glad your friend is doing better cinnamon though it's a shame if a bad run makes her feel down. I hadn't thought about it from that perspective, feeling worse about yourself if you don't live up to your expectations, that must be very hard. I find running settles me and makes me calmer and peaceful, almost like a physical form of meditation, but I don't usually have targets and often leave my garmin off so I can't get hung up on pace.

Well done on all the hills emummy, brilliant Smile

standingonlego is there a time cut off or a sweeper that would make you feel under pressure if you were walking bits? I must admit I personally like to be fairly confident I can run the distance in a race but that's just me. I've only done one trail race though, I don't know if more people tend to walk bits on trails generally.

familygermsareok · 07/06/2016 23:12

X post standing, that sounds like a good decision. Good luck. Smile

KeyserSophie · 08/06/2016 06:24

standing. If it's a very tough trail race (very hilly or very technical) it's likely that there will be quite a few people walking bits of the course. That also means it's likely to be quite a bit slower than the same distance on road so depends how long you want to be out there- sorry if this is obvious- I wasnt sure if you normally run trail or if this is a first time. RD's here usually give the option to drop to the shorter distance on the day, or even mid-race. It can be a bit of a head-screw though, especially if you have to run through the finish of the 18k on the way to the 36k.

Five mile run this morning. Hip still not right but I've now worked out it's my glutes. I rolled the crap out of them last night while watching GOT and this morning it was ok, but it's tightened up again post-run. Booked physio appointment for next Friday, but will be so disappointed if I cant run happy in London this weekend. Was really looking forward to revisiting my old routes.

Hello 3.3 muggy but enjoyable miles yesterday. ellen I've increased my distances I think from a similar point you're at. It is hard at first but I found you then make a bit of a leap and plateau again.

rounding up to 190

stilllearnin · 08/06/2016 06:54

Halle just read the aging thread. Made me Grin. Some interesting comments about female beauty ideals and passivity. I am one of the only women I know that does not wear make up or dye my hair. Its not a principle thing - I just don't really know how! And so I do look older than other women my age. But when I am running I don't think about that - that's almost the point of running: to escape.

MyBlackCat · 08/06/2016 20:19

Afternoon plod - far too hot to run and struggled Sad

0ellenbrody0 · 08/06/2016 22:42

Went out at 8:45pm when it had cooled right down, which was nice. 3.3 to add.

Repeated hilly forest run and made it up all the hills again, slightly faster than last time so very happy. A mere 15 degrees here, but sunny and I think running up hills makes it feel hotter! Dog tried to help by running through a puddle and covering my legs in muddy water, which was nice.

kind doggy!! 12.9 this morning - struggled on the third lap of the woods but I think that was psychological rather than anything else.
