Dusting off the trainers

A support thread for anyone trying to get back into running or starting for the first time. Would love to have a bit of company.

I used to run quite a bit, though nothing impressive (managed a 1/2 marathon at my peak). Then I did far too much too soon after having my 3rd baby, and buggered my knees. Have not run for about 3 years.

Am just getting back to it now. Gently does it. Am terrified of hurting myself again. Have been seeing a PT with the goal of getting strong enough in all the right places to run regularly again.

Went for my first run on Friday. Aiming for 10 mins (PT instruction) but really enjoyed it and ran for 20. Didn't get very far though!!

2nd run was yesterday. 15 minutes, pitiful distance, lots of hills.

Looking forward to running again on Tues.

I went out for a run this morning - I was so lost in my thoughts (trivial rubbish) that I finished my circuit before I even noticed! I love it when that happens.

I'm probably going to bow out of this thread now. At the start, my objective was to blow the dust off my trainers and get back to running a regular distance a couple of times a week, having completely lapsed since last autumn. And I've achieved that! I'm never going to be fast, never going to run 10k, but if I can keep up my fitness by doing my little ladyjog around the village for 20-30 minutes or so, then I'm happy. Thanks to all for your support - and keep on keeping on!

Ladyjog. Love that.
I've got a cold. Local olde worlde shop man said today why wasn't I out. Told him I had a cold. He said, that doesn't affect your legs. Grinmade me smile.

Hi! Love this thread-great to hear that others are not naturally runners-but still trying!

It takes me about 35 mins to do 5km - i am not sure whether to try and get faster or go for distance?

Hi soltis. I argue with myself a lot on that and I've worked out my mind over matter is distance. I care less about how slow I am compared to how far I go. (And I have a 10k to do in October)
