No idea on parkruns feetheart!

I think I'll be home tomorrow, had stomach pains through my course today and just made it home before I threw up! I want to be ok tomorrow and if I am in sure it'll just be for a pootle and don't want to get up extra early to travel too far. Still going tonight, perhaps selfishly but I'll try not to breathe on anyone.

It's my home event's 3rd birthday tomorrow, so that's where I will be! There's no big plans or theme, though I suspect there will be buns.

chutneypig · 04/03/2016 18:53

Buns are always good Melanie enjoy!

Hope you're feeling better cinnamon.

No idea sorry feet but you can always rely on Blathers to know.

I'll be happy wth no further police incidents tomorrow. Weathers looking a bit challenging - my friend is marshalling and I suspect she'll have the worst of it, at least we'll be moving.

lastqueenofscotland · 05/03/2016 16:29

300 runners at ours today, 114 women and I was 20th and won my age category delighted!

Blatherskite · 05/03/2016 18:16

I didn't go this morning Shock

It was snowing, I've been sleeping badly recently and I am still trying to fend off tonsillitis (doctor says my glands are up but there is no obvious infection in my throat or ears...yet - ears are still sore though!) so when my friend bailed on me via text, I'm afraid I rolled back over and went back to sleep for another couple of hours.

I have seen my brother and sister in law today though who are both fellow RDs and we've been planning some Yorkshire tourism :)

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2016 20:33

Well done lastqueenofscotland!

I went to the Tom (but not really Tom) on tour Friday night and was going to join them at bury but with not being well Friday I didn't want to get up super early today so ran at home. It was a really enjoyable evening so any in the core teams I recommend going when they come near to you. Next week is our third birthday and will hopefully be my 100th run.

I have a dilemma, I didn't order the peach top because I waited to ask dh if he minded and was then too late but it turns out there are xs men in stock which is the same chest size as s women's. The cut is different and there are more coming in April but those won't have the Union Jack on them. So do I get an original in xs men or wait for the second batch and get a s ladies?

Blatherskite · 05/03/2016 20:49

Personally, I'd wait for the ladies one I think cinnamon. The cut is huge - bigger than the club tees - and the straighter cut of the men's will be even bigger than the ladies.

Why are they ditching the union jack?

Also what's this Tom on tour?

Blatherskite · 05/03/2016 21:08

Ooh, just been chatting to a neighbouring ED about possibly popping over and doing a bit of RD touring. Could be fun.

FiftyNineOhEight · 05/03/2016 22:10

Hello all

I volunteered today Smile. It was coooooold!

cinners I'd wait for the ladies one.

feet I have a friend who I think runs at Daventry, I will try to remember to ask her about showers. There are certainly loos at Northampton where you have a baby wipe scrub down even if you can't use the changing rooms. lego might know if you PM her Smile

Hope the third birthday buns were good Melanie and that it wasn't too cold chutney

Well done lastqueen

Runninggirl63 · 05/03/2016 22:33

Feetheart - I can comment re Coventry and Brueton. Neither have showers that I am aware of but both have cafe ( and thus toilet facilities) in the parks. Coventry is a big parkrun but plenty of parking and off a main road so quite easy to find -a little way from the M6 though. Brueton is smaller and parking is trickier - and the start has been moved a bit further away from the main parking -however it is a stones throw from the M42. My home run is Coventry which is is a 2 lap course in a lovely park . Brueton is also a great park -they've changed the course recently but I've not run it since then.

Very long time lurker -I've been reading this thread since I've started parkrun and ran my 102nd today !!!

MelanieCheeks · 05/03/2016 23:19

Homemade brownies, they were yum!

Now, I know someone who tried to order an apricot t with a norn irn name on it, and it wasn't allowed ( flegs can be an issue over here, see, and they decided not to offer a t shirt with the union flag on customised to an NI run). But I think they said future batches wouldn't have the flag on and therefore could bear an NI event name. Confused yet?

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2016 23:34

Hi Runninggirl63, why so long a lurker? Hope we haven't been too scary!

It's in the core team emails blatherskite, Tom Williams who's now been replaced by Helen hood (not sure what the actual job title is) and a team including Jo sinton-Hewitt, glen turner and other parkrun organisery types are travelling around parkruns in the uk. They hold an evening discussion group/presentation on the Friday and then run a parkrun on the Saturday. They were doing the east of England one this weekend.

The reason behind removing the flag is because it seems it upset some, despite being parkrun uk!?! The next batch are flag free but the hope is that you will be able to choose the flag in the future, or so we were told last night anyway.

Hello Runninggirl Smile

Good timing on the birthday/100th run cinnamon. I'd be tempted by the men's shirt but would probably wait for the women's.

My friend who was volunteering yesterday looked frozen FiftyNine. You're all very brave in this weather. The newer run we've been doing needs quite a lot of marshals unlike our home run and is smaller anyway so thinking we will volunteer this month. And wrap up warm.

I had a great run yesterday. DD and I inadvertently started off a bit fast, realised we were in front of the male family so kept going for a bit. Not very long, but long enough to give a boost. We knocked over a minute off our course PB and were faster than the time I had for most of last year at our home course which is much flatter. I tried my new trail shoes out which were very comfy and gave me no hip issues, but the socks did not like them and one disappeared into my show early on. I had to wash the blood out after but no damage done Grin. I ordered some different socks for this shoes straight away.

Excellent on the age category lastqueen

I am deeply jealous of homemade brownies Melanie - you always make me hungry with the tales of treats at your runs!

Hope you're feeling ok blathers

Runninggirl63 · 06/03/2016 08:12

You're not scary at all - not sure why I've never commented before but I've always enjoyed reading about all your runs!

Blatherskite · 06/03/2016 11:43

Thanks cinnamon. I should probably read the core emails more often! Glen is a friend of mine so hopefully I'd hear if he were nearby.

Still earachey but I did manage junior parkrun this morning at least. DS took off while DD and I ran together. I'm glad we went.

FiftyNineOhEight · 06/03/2016 14:30

Ouch chutney Shock You can now call yourself a hardened proper runner if you have had bleeding feet Grin. I was only cold yesterday because I was on tokens and couldn't wear gloves. I am marshaling next week and will keep warm clapping Grin. Well done to you and DD Smile.

Hello Runninggirl, please stay now that you have delurked. I wonder how many other lurkers there are Smile do come and say hello!

cinners hope your 100th goes well next Saturday Smile

Knackerelli · 06/03/2016 14:58

I tail ran for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. Jogged round with a lady (encouraging her on her 5th parkrun) and local legend Clive (who has run over 100 parkruns and celebrated his 80th birthday last month). Was going to run today instead but have stomach cramps Sad Running Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday though so not all bad!

gruber · 06/03/2016 22:56

Just found this thread while looking for recommendations on clothing (for running obviously). Love love love Parkrun! Started in January, my brother got me into it and we now run (him in Whiststable me at mine) and compare our runs.

Can anyone point me to what to wear? I have long sleeved top and long trousers but find that 5k is quite a way & I get cold with the wind off the sea!
Where has showers & changing rooms??! New concepts to me, only on my 7th run though and not been a tourist yet.

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/03/2016 06:48

Good morning gruber and welcome to the thread Smile

At the moment I'm running in long tights, a long sleeved top and a short sleeved top. I cycle to parkrun so I also wear gloves and a running jacket, and often a hat under my helmet. We are a 2.5 lap course, so you can shed layers as you go round - there is a conveniently placed bandstand for people to dump hats/jackets/jumpers on the way round Smile.

If it's windy where you run, I suggest you try a running jacket. A friend of mine recent got a really nice one in TK Maxx at at knock down price.

I've never done better than a baby wipe scrub down in the toilets after my tourism Smile

chutneypig · 07/03/2016 07:03

Welcome gruber Smile Most of my family go for exactly what FiftyNine wears. I'm almost as addicted to buying running clothes as I am to parkrun, so I have a variety of long sleeved tops, from normal technical to thermal. I've got two running jackets, one for when it's dry but cold and one waterproof one for if it looks like rain. I like to be able to shed them and tie them round my waist if needed. A jacket sounds like it would be the thing if you've got coastal winds.

feetheart · 07/03/2016 11:41

Hello RunningGirl - thanks for the advice and well done for delurking :)

Gruber - I would second a jacket and add gloves. I have a cheap pair of cotton cycling gloves that I often wear to start with even when running in just a t-shirt. They are easy to take off and carry when you warm up.
Only parkrun I know of with showers is Portrush. Don't usually need one but we are meeting family afterwards for the rest of the day. Baby-wipe wash will be fine.

Melanie - not confused at all and I knew the fleg would cause issues in Norn Irn (and told Mr Turner so when the design was first released!)

Cinnamon - glad the 'Tom on Tour' was good. I did think about going but it really was too far away for a Friday night.

I volunteered too on Saturday, supporting our new RD who did a brilliant job. Really pleased (for her and me!) as I persuaded her to go for it. We have another 2 waiting in the wings which should give us a core team of 8 and me more chances of running :o
For those who have run our course we are having to change it for about 6 months as they revamp the museum. The date for the work starting seems to vary depending on who we talk to so we will be changing things from 19th of this month - it may confuse some people!!

MelanieCheeks · 07/03/2016 15:03

Ha, remember I said I had a job interviewer and I knew my interviewer was a parkrunner?

I got the job, and had an initial meeting with him today. Where he produced the picture of me in my Day of the Dead Sugar Skull facepaint and said "What's goin on here then?"

It was all good-natured stuff.

Knackerelli · 07/03/2016 18:08

Ha! Excellent melanie!

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/03/2016 22:25

gruber I noticed this morning that LIDL have running gear this week including jackets - might be worth a look?

Melanie that's hilarious Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/03/2016 22:26

feet I will bring DS for a course inspection next time he is home (Easter-ish I think)
