Thanks both, that's really helped me feel better about it. I'll have a look at the results page now and see what sort of times are on there. I may also go and have a look at it first too. Our park is very local to me.

Blatherskite · 21/05/2016 10:12

Managed to actually run at parkrun this morning. Took DS with me as he was asked to join the school's athletics club yesterday and is all excited about running - and I could use him to keep me going!

Between him getting a calf cramp and having to stop another two times to re-tie laces, we did just over 33 minutes. It's a good 8 minutes off my PB but it didn't feel as hard as it has been recently so I'm feeling OK about it. Determined to get my fitness back.

GeoffreysGoat · 21/05/2016 10:49

Sorry about the weather gruber did you spot my boys? 😂

Hello all Smile

Miserable down here today, but quiet due to a local ultra.
Took ThursdayDog who managed to poo right where the course gets tough - so I tied it to his collar and made him carry it up the rest of the hills!

Very wet indeed, but I took it much easier this time and subsequently enjoyed it much more. My PB passed me by while I was crossing mile 2 I reckon Grin

RaisinGirls · 21/05/2016 15:10

Did my second park run this morning. All dry here . I managed 33.58 which is a PB for me. Really enjoyed it again and noticed I hit the wall at the same point as last time - around two miles. Not sure how I get over that? Just experience?

I was really sore last week after the run - well on the Sunday - and my thigh muscles were so tight. What stretches can anyone recommend?

RaisinGirls · 21/05/2016 15:14

Hark at me making me slower than I was / it was 32:58! Never has a minute been so important!

GeoffreysGoat · 21/05/2016 15:28

Good time raisin

Ds1 and dh did 41:59 so 2 minutes slower than their pb

chutneypig · 21/05/2016 17:11

Rome as the built in a day Thursday! Glad you enjoyed it more.

Great to hear you got out Blathers

Well done Raisin. I think it just gets easier the more you do. Not sure about the stretches, my quads are a wreck after a tough circuits class this week. Can barely get down the stairs Grin

Completely agree Joan about the being content thing. Was DS happy with his time Geoffrey?

I managed to squeeze a few seconds off my PB for that course. Only because DS was pacing me and was giving off baleful vibes if we slowed down too much. Then he announced at the end that he'd found the pace really easy and felt he could keep it going for a half marathon Grin

GeoffreysGoat · 21/05/2016 18:06

Ds gets his vibe off us and we do the bouncy excited thing whatever he runs 😂 he can count that high with a bit of prompting but hasn't really grasped the whole minutes and seconds thing yet! He's been running in his batman hoody though and loves the recognition from all the grown ups and bigger kids so at least we can give him a lifelong love of running

karatekimmi · 21/05/2016 21:47

I managed a PB of 27:36!! My previous best was 29:11 so I'm over the moon! I had a little entourage pacing me which makes it so much easier! I can't believe I managed a parkrun without talking!!

Back from a whistle-stop 24 hour visit to Manchester to see my dancing daughter, and managed to squeeze in a trip to Heaton Park.

backinschool · 22/05/2016 17:34

No park run here this Saturday so I went out and ran 5k on my own. Managed to finish in 37 minutes which is okay for me. My legs were still aching after having some deep tissue massage on Tuesday. It's like a form of torture! This week was particularly bad and I've felt bruised all week but it's working so I'll forgive the cruel physio Wink.

Junior park run with my girls this morning. DD1 was very excited to get a pb and I'm struggling to keep up with her which is embarrassing as she's only 6. DD2 was 4 last week and ran her first junior parkrun today. She had a ball high-giving all the marshals!

backinschool · 22/05/2016 17:35

High-fiving! I've no idea what high giving is.

RaisinGirls · 22/05/2016 19:00

That's a great result, kimmi. You must be chuffed

gruber · 22/05/2016 19:13

Yes Geoffery I did spot them valiantly running in the rain! Congratulations to them, my DS faded at the sight of rain (and wind)! Pleased with 34:08, even happier I made it round a very wet course on little sleep - rain was very loud in the tent overnight...
I can recommend Brockenhurst, they're all friendly & cheered me round the course.
Does anyone else find laps are harder than a straight course? I think I must be a tourist to get some experience in atlaps, I found it very hard (but it obviously did me well in terms of time!)

gruber · 22/05/2016 19:14

Wow kimmi great result! What a time!

chutneypig · 22/05/2016 19:33

Absolutely brilliant kimmi well done indeed.

That's a big event Melanie, well done on your time.

I completely agree about laps gruber, although I've heard it helps with pacing. But that's probably for speedier people than me - I mostly aim not to get lapped Grin

Your DS is a star Geoffrey

DS blasted his junior PB this morning, despite it being a much harder course. He's been buzzing all day. DH kindly told him it might have been because he took it easy yesterday. Thanks DH Grin.

How was the class Joan?

I just let go of the not keeping up embarrassment backinschool. I leave them to it at the juniors and frankly am counting the days down till they're eleven. So are they!

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/05/2016 20:48

Lts of great running this weekend. I enjoyed volunteering yesterday and hope to be back running next Saturday.

GeoffreysGoat · 22/05/2016 21:30

Oh blimey I didn't realise you were camping, is have sent a flask of hot chocolate! You'll have to come back down in better weather 😃 or come back in autumn for the forest course

Thanks chutney he's turning out to be a mini fanatic, would be heartbroken if I tried to stop him!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/05/2016 20:38

We have come close to cancelling for high winds and thunder storms GettinTrimmer but we are in a forest. Some that are all paths suffer with ice but we are forest trails so that doesn't stop us and even with torrential rain we go ahead Smile

You would definitely be welcomed RedOnHerHedd! We have walkers at our parkrun some week who have no intention of running, not even a little trot over the finish line and that's what parkrun is all about Grin

Well done RaisinGirls!

I didn't realise you weren't running blatherskite just assumed you weren't posting. I'm sure you will get your fitness back!

Never thought of getting the dogs to carry their own poo ThursdayLastWeek Hmm

Well done karatekimmi, I always find I'm faster at parkrun when I'm training for a longer race, your marathon and half have probably made a huge difference Grin

We had 98 this week, a little girl fall over but otherwise incident free and a lovely morning. Even persuaded dh to being the boys down for tea and cake!

Cancellations I've known have either been because of other events taking place, for which you get plenty of notice. Or ice, which is a last minute decision, but safety has to be paramount. The most galling one has to have been our run-2-on-New Years Day experience, where there was the opportunity to run either Waterworks or Comber first, and then go to Stormont at 11. I did the 4 (very boring, sorry) lap course at Comber, and later discovered that the Waterworks one, which more people attended, had been cancelled at the last minute due to ice.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2016 21:25

I've ordered my peach top, should be here by 20th June. So excited Smile

Can anyone recommend a parkrun somewhere between Peterborough and Wetherby, that's not too far from the A1 and easy to find? Pontefract maybe? I am going up towards Thirsk next weekend, but don't have to be there until after midday, so could stop off and run on the way DH thinks I'm mad but I know you lot will get it Grin.
