New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

Thanks dissapointed, I think I might give Cize a miss. I've done turbo fire and found the workouts good cardio workouts but wouldn't want anything slower paced for cardio.

Managed to do resistance 1 hc22 in between my painting frenzy. I've been painted pretty much all the time over the last twelve hours Confused

disappointed101 · 23/04/2016 19:27

Omg what are you painting?! How are you finding hard corps? Not sure whether to get it or not.

KatieKaboom · 23/04/2016 19:50

Re: BodyShred, it is wonderful. Better and harder than BodyRevolution. In format, it is Jillian's good old 3-2-1 style workout, which I love.

Pros:

  • 3-2-1strength-cardio-abs
  • fast-paced. To fit in a warm up and four circuits, it moves really quickly between moves.
  • her demeanour is great here- she's a lot calmer than in Ripped in 30, for instance
  • background exercisers are fab and include Anita from Shred (i.e. Julia Bognar whose Tabata workouts on YouTube are great ) and Zuzka
  • no equipment needed save a couple of sets of dumbbells
  • it is HARD. I would defy anyone not to be challenged by this. Unique mix of old moves and new, balance stuff, plyo, Pilates, traditional weights moves and so on.
  • cardio vids are really nice... a lot of Insanity style moves, but well designed so that you can actually keep going for the full 30 minutes.
  • Nice friendly vibe and pleasant set.
  • it works... my waist dropped an inch after a fortnight and I list a couple of pounds despite not changing my diet.

Cons

  • too fast-paced... you look up and they're already doing the next move. If you are anal like me, you have to do every rep, so this means a lot of rewinding!
  • it's divided into push day and pull day. On one hand, it's good, because you can lift much heavier in Tuesdays and Fridays... but I personally prefer to divide my workouts into leg/bum, chest/back/triceps, etc.
  • sometimes it's uneven... workout 3 has stupidly easy cardio (jump-rope ffs) then workout 4 is insane- all plyo stuff.
  • I couldn't do the programme exclusively because it does have a bit of a dread factor. I like some workouts to be pure fun... and this is not fun. Twice or thrice a week is ideal, I think.
  • sometimes the strength is really cardio- jumping lunges, chair squat hops. I dunno. It's effective but I have to go and do some deadlifts, curls or whatever just to feel I got a few minutes of 'proper' strength in.

I do about two of these a week. I'd get too bored to do a full rotation. At the moment I am doing Insanity Max 30 pretty faithfully but still enjoy chucking in some Jillian to keep my biceps and bum working hard. Smile

I'd recommend this as it is way harder than Body Revolution and doesn't have that awful hairy oaf David in it. (Omar and Kenta are back, though... yum! )

KatieKaboom · 23/04/2016 19:57

Is CIZE all rap music or is there some decent other stuff in there too?

I read that BeachBody are bringing out a line-dancing workout in summer. Shock

Just... no.

disappointed101 · 23/04/2016 20:27

Thanks for that comprehensive review on body shred. I really liked body revolution. Lmao about David!!!
In cize there are six routines, you do the practice with more of a beat in the background. Then you perform the dance to the song. Let me think of the songs....pass that Dutch missy Elliott, sugar? Bruno Mars, Sia, Chandelier, lose my breath Destinys child, can't think of the other two off hand. Some of the dances are a bit more energy, some a bit more mellow

disappointed101 · 23/04/2016 20:28

Katie I thought that too about the line dancing. Will give that a miss!

RoastieToastieReastie · 23/04/2016 20:54

Katie that sounds very interesting. I've never really done much jillian as I find her too shouty but maybe time to try. Plus, I'm bound to be the only one I'm quite excited about line dancing, I used to go to a line dancing class years ago when it was a brief trend with retired people. It was great fun. Tbh I love anything with a routine, and feel like I miss out a bit with the bb workouts I do as they aren't very routiney in the same way. I've also always wanted to try the tai chi Bb series as I used to do tai chi classes too.

Dissapointed we've had two big units built either side of the fireplace in the alcoves with lots of shelves and doors etc that all needs painting. So far I've done two layers of undercoat ready for the paint to hopefully come on tomorrow. I'm finding hc22 good but I'm getting a bit bored of it now (in week five now I think, or it could be week 6). I'd say it's great if you're short on time and want to sneak in a workout when you otherwise might not get to do one or to use on a time limited day a couple of times a week but as a programme I'm getting bored! Lots of drills and some dynamic moves that I always worry in doing wrong and might injure myself. It's hard though, I don't class myself as especially fit (but more fit than average maybe) and I modify a bit or struggle with all the reps with their speed. I only know one of those songs you mention from Cize, my music knowledge is seriously out of date!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/04/2016 21:09

Really interesting to hear about those workouts Katie and dissapointed thanks.

Roastie wow at painting and 22 HC! Star Painting is a pretty good workout in itself! I did cardio 3 today....ooooh me knees!!! Quite hard, I had had enough after 10 minutes! I find anything along the lines of sphinx planks hard, especially getting up and down out of them gracefully.

RoastieToastieReastie · 23/04/2016 21:22

Yumy I think cardio 3 is my fave! The one I can't do at all (I think it's resistance 3) where you go from standing to lying down etc. I have a really inflexible lower back that's a heridatory thing that various members in my family have and I just can't do it. I think I have cardio 2 tomorrow. Please let that not be the one with the gorilla crawls!

EleanorAbernathy · 23/04/2016 21:42

Hi everyone
Sorry to report I've been totally crap lately! I'm having a bit of a flare up of a medical condition that I'd hoped I imagined all along, and haven't done any exercise since the last time I posted Sad

I'm seriously considering getting T25 - as I found it too easy before but that might be exactly what I need at the moment (and it's less repetitive than the 30 Day Shred which is about the same length!)

Roonerspism · 24/04/2016 07:51

Can I join please?

Is this a thread for home exercisers addicted to various workouts?
I started with Jillian and still luffs her but do other stuff too.

Would love to join.

disappointed101 · 24/04/2016 09:43

Welcome Rooner! I only joined this thread recently too! What are you doing at the moment? I am about to embark on a hybrid I think.. I keep going back and forth but I'm thinking a Hammer and Chisel and Turbofire one.

onlywhenyouleave · 24/04/2016 10:53

Hi

Welcome rooners Smile

Loving all the chat about the different workouts - it is great to hear people's views. Have been googling the Turbo fire ones and think they might be right up my street. I hate traditional HIIT workouts where you do one exercise for 40 seconds then rest etc - so dull and boring. Have watched one of the Turbo fire workouts and it is much more varied and choreographed. However, there are only a couple of videos downloaded on the 'secret' site Sad Going to try it later today to see what it is like and possibly use the one 30 minute video once a week to compliment T25.

eleanor hope you start to feel more like yourself soon. I have to laugh that you found T25 easy when it kills me GrinBlush

disappointed101 · 24/04/2016 11:15

Only, if you like Turbofire, keep an eye out on Amazon. It is quite often on offer. I got mine one Black Friday for only 19.99. I also picked up Both Insanity Asylums for similar price last year.

EleanorAbernathy · 24/04/2016 12:53

I've ordered T25 - plus I found Gamma on eBay so ordered that too in case I find it too easy again Grin
[Pulls self together and stops being a wuss]

Hello new people by the way, have also loved reading about all the other programsSmile

yumyumpoppycat · 24/04/2016 17:45

All this talk of new workouts has had me checking ebay, cex and amazon but nothing bargainous Sad eleanor enjoy gamma - it sounds like a good one, I know its on the secret site but I have never managed to get on there (and like a saddo actually quite like getting the actual dvds!). Roastie maybe you should swap in one or two workouts if you are really fed up of 22 HC? V impressed cardio 3 is your favourite.

I haven't worked out and the kids are commandeering the gym front room, will try to fit in 22HC but otherwise its a double for me tomorrow. At least we got some exercise at the park, my eldest two have finally got to grips with bikes so they did laps round the park while we walked. Have done a bit better caloriewise today too, just as well really as I have gained 3lb this week Shock

disappointed101 · 24/04/2016 19:38

What is the secret site?

caitlinohara · 24/04/2016 20:14

Katie thanks for lowdown on Bodyshred. My friend in RL has done it and said it was really hard - I was a bit Hmm because I found Body Revolution way too easy for the most part, so now I'm more inclined to believe her! I'm not a fan of the whole 3-2-1 business because I like to concentrate on one thing rather than leaping up to do jumping jacks every few minutes and the ab bits never seem long enough to really feel anything. I AM a fan of the magnificent Anita and it's good to know she is still using her! Omar is ace and looks dangerous. No Mimi? She's a nutter.

Eleanor sorry you are having a bad time. However, I take my hat off to anyone who finds T25 easy, you are clearly a badass. I never made it as far as gamma so I would be interested to know how it compares to the other phases - Beta seemed easier than Alpha in every way to me!

Still on course with P90X and have just started week 2 today - Chest & Back followed by Ab Ripper X. I am still a wussy weakling Sad but am hammering it with the protein in the vain hope that it will make a difference. Think I have strained my neck attempting to do dive bombers Blush.

Oh and welcome Rooners, what are you doing at the moment workout wise?

P.S. Did someone say LINE DANCING? This is a wind up, yes? wtf?!

RoastieToastieReastie · 24/04/2016 21:00

So I see I'm the only one who will admit to has done line dancing and quite liked it then. I also quite liked a barn dance when I went to one years ago. Honestly, just give me a specific strict routine to follow and I'm away but put me on a dance floor to bust my own moves (see how I sound like I'm down with the kids there with the old lingo?!) and I freeze.

Well, I managed cardio 2 and core 2 today hc22. I had to force myself as I was so exhausted from huge amount of painting and work I had to take home. This evening my ibs has been playing up big time (which I get when I'm tired/stressed/anxious/over worked etc) so I've decided to have a rest day tomorrow to try to recover.

Caitlin I had forgotten about dive bombers, gah, I could never do those without dropping to my knees.

only turbo fire is good for that kind of thing and it gets my heart pumping. Let me know if you find the overexcited women in the video annoying or if it's just me.

onlywhenyouleave · 24/04/2016 21:40

Well I did the 20 minute turbofire workout that is the bonus DVD from piyo - I enjoyed it very much (knew it was my kind of exercise) but it was easy and I didn't feel I had really done anything Hmm it was 20 minutes but I always feel knackered after t25 so it wasn't a time thing! Have looked at the proper turbo fire workouts and they seem harder but I am very time limited in my workout options so the 45/50/55 minute options would be pointless! Shame Confused

disappointed I will PM you about the secret site Smile

T25 gamma is fab! More strength work which I prefer to the cardio workouts. The only exception is Speed 3.0 which is the same format as Speed 2.0 but contains every variety of burpee known to man Shock I don't even attempt it and just do Core Speed instead Grin

KatieKaboom · 25/04/2016 07:25

I've never done Gamma but tempted by talk of the burpee blast!

Did Sweat Fest (bonus DVD from Insanity Max 30) last night and feel a bit gulped. It's clearly just a test workout for the original Insanity or something- Tanya is there, there is all the midworkout stretching abd you don't even start properly till ten minutes. And there are waterbreaks every couple of minutes. Far too easy. Angry

Turbofire is the WORST for perkiness. I like Char herself and think the HIIT routines are brilliant, but couldn't handle that cheerleadery level of silliness every day.

Roastie, you can't be alone. Cotton Eye Joe was a huuuuuuge hit in the nineties and I remember being one of a huge hall full of country-hating teens doing the moves!

KatieKaboom · 25/04/2016 07:27

Gulped = gipped.

yumyumpoppycat · 25/04/2016 10:42

Katie where did you get the dvd - is it on basic IM30?

Only the turbofire workout on Piyo is not as hardcore as the HIIT ones on turbofire, I actually got mine around £30 and they refunded it due to missing parts but I got to keep it, I wouldn't pay more than £30 for it. I agree it is not the best for doing day in day out. I like the idea of shredding weight with it, and want to lose 8 lbs in the next 4 weeks but I do not like the idea of losing even more from my chest so in a quandary!

Did 22 HC resistance 1 this am, I hadn't done it for a while and liked the back to basics feel. I surprised myself by keeping pushup-ing without going to kness, albeit slower/less reps in the time and not v low. I then made a start on paul katami kettlebell abs which is also a short workout, but I was using a heavier than usual 6kg bell and hadn't had breakie so gave up towards the end. My Pullups haven't progressed much, I tried at the park yest and could only dangle so pull up assist is defo a necessity for me! I am sure my inner Sarah Connor will emerge soon though Grin

Roastie I have genuinely never tried line dancing, but tbf I am equally rubbish at throwing moves and choreography so you are one up on me! It is supposed to be really good fun isn't it, but not sure how it would translate to dvd without people to line dance with?

onlywhenyouleave · 25/04/2016 11:21

I am not sure about line dancing without a few drinks inside me Grin Grin

caitlinohara · 25/04/2016 20:32

Braved Plyo X this evening (I just did Cardio X last week because I was worried my knees couldn't take it!) and actually it was ok - hard, but not harder than T25 and with more breaks so it seemed more doable. Hope everyone else has had a good day!

Considering getting some form of fitness watch. I know some of you have had mixed experiences with them so I thought I had better ask for opinions. I'd like a heart rate monitor and calories burned, not that fussed about sleep and steps and syncing with my phone or whatever. Suggestions?
