New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

Roastietoastiereastie your not reastie from the christmas threads are you?

RoastieToastieReastie · 14/04/2016 20:59

The very same yumy! Only I haven't got around to changing back to my regular nn since Christmas Blush .

yumyumpoppycat · 14/04/2016 21:10

{does a little curtsey} ;) My 10 year old still believes in santa thanks to your thread Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 14/04/2016 21:10

camel camel was the giveaway Grin

Purpleraindeer · 14/04/2016 21:12

Roastie - i can't believe how inaccurate your Fitbit is. Mind you - no way you could only have a hr as low as it was saying during a work out - unless you're Jessica Ennis perhaps??

Enjoy the new leggings Caitlin. I bet you work out extra hard tonight.

Did max out cardio tonight. Felt so much easier than it did a few weeks ago. Must be getting fitter! I even kept up with crazy Sarah on the jumps at the end. Saw gp about breathing today and immediately got sent to have tests on heart and lungs. Typically when I worked out tonight I felt OK. So now i feel like a massive hypochondriac! Blush.

caitlinohara · 14/04/2016 22:22

Purple Glad you're feeling better and hope crazy jumping continues! My new motivational leggings worked a treat - thanks again Eleanor! Randomly did Workout 7 from JM Body Revolution and nailed it, crow push ups and all. Did whole programme a couple of years back and although overall I didn't get great results, the odd workout from it is good. Have convinced dh to do Body Beast in order to use him as a guinea pig Grin

RoastieToastieReastie · 15/04/2016 07:41

Camel camel is great though yumy Grin I've done over half of my Christmas shopping for the year already!

Purple well done on the max out cardio. It's good when you feel like you're getting better at things. Hope the tests go ok.

Can I ask you all about potatoes. Do you eat potatoes? I have a very restricted diet and tend to have potatoes 3-4 times a week (sometimes more) but I'm wondering if this is hindering my food intake as I hear things about them converting into sugar more quickly than other grains. Thing is, I don't want to cut them out or else I'll be ridiculously limited with food, and I eat lunch at work three times a week (they provide lunch as a 'perk' of the job) and literally the only thing I can eat is baked potato, which I have with a bit of cheese and loads of plain salad.

Purpleraindeer · 15/04/2016 07:53

Christmas shopping?!! Shock

I eat potatoes, rice, pasta rarely. This is mostly habit as I couldn't have any of this when I was pregnant (gestational diabetes) so just stopped having them. I do still eat lots of carby stuff, particularly when I'm at work as there's nothing else (lots of travel in the uk and sandwiches on station platforms) so I'm an advocate of making your diet work with your life - if potatoes are all that's available then I'd eat them!

caitlinohara · 15/04/2016 08:22

Roastie I eat potatoes, but I am one of those annoying people who can eat what they like and my weight tends to stay about the same. I don't think that eating or not eating certain types of food makes any difference as long as overall you have the right balance of protein, carbs and fat and an appropriate number of calories per day (barring any intolerances). Theoretically though you could eat absolute crap and as long as you have a calorie deficit you would still lose weight, you would just feel a bit grim and not have much energy. If you'd said you were having a McDonalds for lunch x3 a week that would be a bit Shock but I wouldn't worry about potatoes and cheese.

caitlinohara · 15/04/2016 08:22

And yes, Shock Shock Shock at Christmas shopping!!!!

yumyumpoppycat · 15/04/2016 16:51

Roastie has an amazing christmas shopping thread every year I love it and usually start in September.

WRT potatoes I eat them but I my parents are irish so think I have some sort of potato eating DNA Grin Apparently potatoes that have been refrigerated are better as they develop resistant starch so potato salad is a good option but prob doesnt help wrt the lunch time baked potato. the things that cause my weight gain are grazing on toast, biscuits, chocolate etc, particularly late at night watching tv. The blood sugar diet is defo worth a read, there is a thread on the 5:2 section and a useful forum, the book is also cheap on amazon - this is the non mn forum thebloodsugardiet.com/ for more info .

I have been rubbish with exercise this week, sorry guys.

onlywhenyouleave · 16/04/2016 16:57

Afternoon Smile

Nothing to report here in respect of workouts Blush been away for a couple of days at a theme park with the kids. However, I have literally walked from 9.30-4 both days apart from brief periods of sitting on the rides. There were no queues at all so didn't even get rests while queuing!

Needless to say, my ankles (which are always dodgy) feel like they have been whacked repeatedly with a sledgehammer so am spending today resting them!

Re potatos, I am guessing they are probably a better source of carbs than pasta but have no scientific basis for this - I know all diets seem to use sweet potatos rather than normal ones.

Lol at Christmas shopping already Grin if only I was that organised! I do have one gift bought for the DC which is tickets to an event next January but that is extremely unusual for me. How do you know what your children would be into in 9 months time??

Purpleraindeer · 16/04/2016 20:18

Sounds knackering only!
Poppy - I had a look at the blood sugar diet thread. I really admire your willpower. Are you doing the full 8weeks? Is hard to diet that rigorously and exercise too as well as have a busy life so don't beat yourself up for workouts sliding a bit.
We had a Chinese takeaway last night. Tasted really weird and sugary and then I had a headache all day today. I feel like my v healthy diet normally has ruined my enjoyment of treats! Or I need to redefine treat.... Agility x this afternoon. I feel like an idiot doing it, but I do enjoy it - especially the big jumps!

RoastieToastieReastie · 16/04/2016 20:51

Thank you for the potatoes comments. Sometimes I have potatoes every single day in a week (not often though) so I'm just trying to make sure I keep it 3-4. I never really eat pasta or rice (rarely brown rice) and tend to eat oats or quinoa (although I do have brown rice in the form of rice cakes and rice puffs in breakfast cereal). I also have a slice of millet bread every day, which is very dark and heavy a bit like rye bread and nothing at all like normal bread.

Yumy thanks for the link and info to check.

Only I guess what DD will like! I got her a sylvanian families hotel about two years before I actually gave it to her and a bike a good year before hand too Blush . She's only five so thus far has been quite pliable to suggestions for what she wants for presents but I know it'll get tougher the nearer Christmas. I also do an advent calendar of presents wrapped with a number on each present and tend to get these gifts all in the January sales (they are things like Christmas based craft bits or Christmassy books which I find amazingly cheap out of Christmas time). I haven't got a main present in the loft for DD for this Christmas but I have got quite a few toys/books etc that will be for stocking fillers. I am a bit over organised in life in general which causes me a lot of stress, it's tough trying to be so organised!

Work is crazy hectic ATM and will be until the end of May I think so 22hc is working well as its short. Did resistance 2 this morning. I admit I'm getting a bit bored of the workouts after 4/5 weeks now. I'm wondering what programme to go back to next and thinking about insanity (I love to hate it as I hate doing it but love how it makes me feel after) or p90x, which I haven't done for a year or so and can't remember that much so might be nicer and I think I can do some of the weights workouts in the gym pretty easily to work it in with my workout routine.

Hope you're all enjoying the week end.

caitlinohara · 16/04/2016 21:51

Well I've just spectacularly failed the P90X fit test Blush. The sight of me hanging feebly from the pull up bar would have provided much hilarity, had I had an audience. Even my push ups were rubbish, since it insists that your chest touches a folded towel Angry. Roastie, Boobz and anyone else who has done P90X - did you pass the fit test before starting? Obviously I am still going to do it anyway Grin but just feeling a bit of a wimp right now...

Roastie if you are thinking of doing P90X again and need a buddy, I am starting Day 1 tomorrow. It looks evil.

yumyumpoppycat · 16/04/2016 22:39

My youngest dd is also 5 and loves sylvanians! One christmas I decorated a sylvanian house with fake snow and fairy lights etc and put some skating sylvanians outside it Blush was up v late that christmas eve. I think if they like collecting certain toys (or earrings in 8 yo dd1s case) it makes it a lot easier to guess and buy ahead. My problem is I don't have that much storage space. I am planning to cut back a bit this year famous last words

Caitlin I have a pull up assist which i actually got at christmas on an amazon lightning deals Grin and it really helps, I can actually do pull ups with it. Hope you enjoy p90x.

I haven't done 22 hc enough to get bored yet but can see how it is a bit limited compared to p90 workouts, I like it though and it is defo going to be a good set to have for those times when time is tight.

Purple I did the 8 weeks of 800 cals (more or less) just before my hol. My next target is dp's birthday mid may. I can't decide whether or not to do another few weeks of head down aiming for 800 cals a day until I get below 10 stone then aim to maintain and exercise and eat well etc or whether I should do the reverse and now focus on exercise and healthy eating for a few weeks, problem is II suspect I won't lose the lbs if I do that. I guess it shouldn't matter about weight but it does for some reason!

Have we heard from Boobz recently?

yumyumpoppycat · 16/04/2016 23:03

Right have decided I am going to try the 5:2 version of blood sugar diet this week that means 5 days higher cals but aiming to be eating healthily and 2 days at under 800 cals. This should mean I have no excuse not to exercise. fingers crossed - writing it so I do it!

RoastieToastieReastie · 17/04/2016 08:57

Yumy, no excuses now!! Look forward to seeing how you go on it.

Caitlin I can't remember about the p90x fit test I'm afraid, but I can't do a pull up to save my life. I use a chair that I stand on and do it, even then it feels hard Blush. Very interested in the pull up assist yumy as I've been debating getting one for yonks. Does it actually work then even if I'm complete weakling? I can't offer to start p90x tomorrow I'm afraid as I want to see hc22 through as much as possible. It's my first bb workout I'm doing in sequence exactly pretty much as designed, everything else I've slotted in bits here and there and never done the proper programme. Maybe that's why I'm bored of it. I quite like it when I do really bad on the initial fit tests as it means the improvement will be more obvious.

lavenderhoney · 17/04/2016 09:18

I am lc but I don't think its that. I have tested this theory over the weeknd but having some potatoes:) I'm going to see the GP as soon as I can and in the meantime fake tan.

I'm upping my hours this week which is good for the bank but not so good for running. I usually run between finishing work and pick up, and I want to run every day if I can , 5k being my target. I do t25 in the morning and insanity at night - I was thinking of asking a neighbour to babysit when the DC are in bed and I can rush to the gym and run, I don't think she'll charge much for an hour.

I also want to start doing Pilates again but quite frankly I don't know when. I have an awesome download which I can do at home but it seems impossible to squash it in.

caitlinohara · 17/04/2016 10:22

Wow lavender, that's quite a schedule!

Roastie that's the kind of positive thinking I need - crap now means better later. They should put THAT on a T shirt.

I too intend to follow this one to the letter - P90X Classic, no going 'off schedule' 5 weeks in like I usually do. I took my 'before' photos last night and tbh I look fine, I just have no definition, so I can't go too far wrong as long as my weight doesn't change drastically. I'm working today and can't concentrate because I keep thinking about my workout later!

Poppycat Thanks - I do have an assist band and had a go with it last night, I think I need to work on my technique though as I kept crashing my knee into the wall Blush Blush, honestly with that and everything else it was like an episode of Mr Bean in my garage last night Blush Good luck with your diet

Purpleraindeer · 17/04/2016 19:43

Lavender - you're putting us all to shame with that schedule! Remind me to never moan that I don't have time to fit in a 30min workout in front of you!

I've got the chin up assist (poppy made me buy it Grin) and it's great. I couldn't do pull ups using the chair - I couldn't seem to coordinate it and kept worrying I was going to fall off. Assist is loads better and I really saw progression as I lengthened it a tiny bit after every work out so eventually I ended up doing pull ups and chin ups unaided. I love them - makes me feel properly hard core - Sarah Connor style!

Max out power tonight. For the first time I got through the whole squat sequence without stopping including the holds at the end. My thighs were on fire! Am not sure I'll ever be able to do all of those push ups without a break tho. I'm always so thrashed I can't look at the screen but I can't believe any of the cast can get through that whole sequence either surely??

Weekend has gone too fast again. Sad can't believe it's nearly Monday. Have a good eve all.

caitlinohara · 17/04/2016 20:34

Purple - hats off to you, that is my ultimate dream (the Sarah Connor thing - not the squat thing. THAT is my ultimate nightmare, but well done Smile)

So... did P90X Day 1 - Chest and Back. I'm not sure I have ever actually used my chest muscles that much. I don't ever remember them feeling sore after any workout before. God knows what I'll be like tomorrow. I was truly appalling but throughout I just kept thinking - yes, this is exactly what I need to work on. Boobz if you are there, you were right all along.

RoastieToastieReastie · 17/04/2016 20:48

Caitlin, well done on day one. From memory I think I used to quite like chest and back as my postural muscles are really weak so it did me good.

Lavender you're making me feel such a slacker! Hats off to you for dedication.

Purple, right, I'm definitely getting a chin uo assist then, but I can't imagine I'll ever be able to do an unaided pull up. It's one of my exercise goals as is to be able to do monkey bars in a playground all the way along as I've never ever even as a child been able to do even one bar, my strength has never been good enough.

Well, bad news is DD is poorly so will probably be off school tomorrow and worse news is I think I'm coming down with it too so I'm tentatively hoping for a resistance workout tomorrow but will have to see.

lavenderhoney · 18/04/2016 05:44

Roastie, I would love to be able to just one playground monkey bar! I hang there and then drop:)

My schedule is as full as I can get it as I'm on my own with the DC and if one is poorly etc I have to abandon exercise. I used to do it a few times a week but ended up not managing a lot so now my approach is better as I don't get so stressed if I miss a session. I think it's quite hard to carve time out tbh.

I asked a gym instructor to show me exactly how to engage my core at the weekend. That was embarrassing! I've been doing it wrong ( sigh)

RoastieToastieReastie · 18/04/2016 09:13

Ohh lavender so what were you doing wrong/what is the nack with the core?

Bad news here as DD is off ill from school and I was up half the night with her too I'm just too tired and pathetic (and feeling under the weather myself) for a workout today. I'm hoping I perk up enough this afternoon and DD lets me do one then, otherwise I'll have to double up another day or something.
