New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

It has occurred to me that the reason I didn't find t25 that hard by the time I finished it was because I wasn't actually trying hard enough. Now I'm actually doing proper squats/lunges etc it's rather more of a challenge Blush

caitlinohara · 29/02/2016 17:04

Well, I am feeling smug because I've done Total Body Circuit (albeit with modified cardio) today. All push ups on knees, and even that was hard. It's going to take me years to be able to do pull ups isn't it? Dammit.

How is everyone else doing?

EleanorAbernathy · 29/02/2016 17:43

I still felt totally ugh on Saturday so didn't do my work out in the end - it's been a bit of a tough week at work so ended up consolling myself with gin and kittens instead.
Finally got back on it today - just done Max:30 Cardio challenge - was nearly sick more than once but finished it! I've decided to do a whole week of Max:30 if anyone fancies joining me :)

Jacksterbear · 29/02/2016 18:31

Hey guys, sorry have been awol for ages... Still been exercising (not quite as much as I'd like but still around 4x pw)... But life v hectic so not much time to keep up with thread. Hope you're all doing well; going to go back over the thread now to catch up! Smile

Eleanor I meant to say before, kittens is possible the most inventive excuse for not doing a workout I have ever heard! Full marks!

I am psyching myself up to do Abs Intervals at some point this morning but I really need to start packing for house move. Right now I am faffing about on MN and doing neither.

EleanorAbernathy · 01/03/2016 15:33

Ummm.... when I said I was doing a whole week of Max:30, I forgot that when you go a couple of weeks with no exercise at all then jump straight back in with a Shaun T workout there's at least a day after when you can barely move!

So I'm doing a whole week apart from today, and spending tonight smothering my calves in tiger balm Grin

caitlinohara · 01/03/2016 16:56

Grin Eleanor admire your honesty!

Purpleraindeer · 03/03/2016 20:12

Hi jackster. Good to see you. Am glad you're ok. You're doing well to be exercising 4x per week if life is crazy. Don't beat yourself up about the work outs you miss.

Eleanor - I agree with Caitlin - the kitten excuse is very creative! Hope your legs are ok now. I did cardio challenge tonight. Hadn't exercised for 3 days (not had that many days off in a row since July!) so was hating it after 9 mins but really got into it by the end. That last circuit with chair squats and punch/tuck jumps is horrific. Urgh. I did manage to max out at 27mins tho so was pretty pleased (chair squats killed me!). Will do sweat intervals next as still resting my shoulder so prob too many press ups in tabata strength.

Caitlin - did you do ab intervals?

Boobz · 04/03/2016 03:42

Hello Jackster - welcome back!

Am in NYC - did Insanity Max Int Circuits on Weds, 21km run along the Hudson river this morning and have a Barry's booked for tomorrow.

#Feelingvirtuous.

Purpleraindeer · 05/03/2016 18:10

Well done boobz! How are you finding routes when you're away from home. Isn't getting lost a bit of a worry? What was nyc Barry's like? I bet there was more enthusiastic whooping than in London!

Sweat intervals for me tonight. Is the max30 I've always found hardest and actually felt bearable today. Woohoo! Off out for dinner with DH tonight too. Has been a long tiring work week so I need this. Yay!

yumyumpoppycat · 05/03/2016 19:14

Have a lovely time out with your dh Purple Smile Wine

Boobz I was wondering the same what is the NYC Barry's like! PS how has your return to work been?

Hi Jackster great to hear you are still getting in the workouts, are you still homeschooling?

Caitlin - I did TBC today ... it was really hard! TBF I havent exercised all week Blush

I am doing a low cal blood sugar diet but I am not losing weight at an amazing rate tbh. At the moment I am at the lightest I have managed since having dd3 (5) but I have got to this point several times (every summer it seems like!) then put weight back on so I really need to plough through and lose another 10lbs at least for this to be different.

Jacksterbear · 05/03/2016 20:57

Hey all. Boobz I like the sound of your Hudson River run! Are you away with work or on hols? And yeah agree with others that I imagine a U.S. version of a bootcamp to be cheesier than in London!

Purple hope you're enjoying your night out.

poppy well done on getting down to that weight - now don't let that effort go to waste!

Home schooling is going well; am likely to be doing it for the foreseeable future. It has ups and downs but on the whole is not as awful as I feared!

I've had a good exercise week (spurred on by a weight gain of a few lbs after much gluttony last week for DH's 40th Blush). Have exercised every day, including today doing a 2.5 hour Combat session which was a charity fundraiser. Great fun, awesome atmosphere, with much whooping, and "hee-yah" type yelling on the punches and kicks! GrinGrin

I plan the routes on mapmyrun.com before I go out, and tend to run in one direction for x miles and then just turn around. Still managed to get lost coming back though, as turned too early on the grid system so my last mile is a bit slow!

NYC Barry's was fun but I think the London instructors a bit more hardcore at the shouting part, and the changing rooms were tiny!

Was a work thing. Am back in the swing of work now but I do feel like i am treading water a little bit until I go back to London in August.

Well done on everyone's work outs, especially your 2.5 marathon Jackster that is impressive! Think you are mad to do home schooling - would drive me insane. I love the little blighters but I pray for the school holidays to finish every time (they are back tomorrow after 2 weeks off.. gnashes teeth).

So now that 2 x ski holidays and 1 x work conference is over, I am back to sticking to the schedule religiously until the actual marathon - 5 weeks today! I have my hardest week next week: a 5m, 10m and 20m run, as well as P90X Legs and Back, various Insanities and a couple of Ab rippers. Am strangely looking forward to the 20 mile run, as I ran so easily in the US that I am hoping I can sustain that speed for 20 miles to get an idea of how I will fare in the actual marathon.

Need to tighten up what I eat though - have piled on some kg with the ski holidays and work conference food/after work drinks. In fact I announced to DH today that I would go alcohol free until after the marathon - think I might regret that impromptu promise!

Purpleraindeer · 07/03/2016 07:30

Poppy - fab on the weight loss. You must be pleased! Can you take some photos or buy some clothes or something to motivate you to stick with it?

After my night out with DH on sat I noticed my dress had crossed over the boundary between 'close fitting' and tight. Oh dear. Weighed myself this am and have put on a bit of weight. I keep having flashbacks to all the crap I've been eating! Will try to watch it this week.....

EleanorAbernathy · 07/03/2016 10:09

OK I haven't been doing really well here - my abs are screaming to be let back out again from under the squishy bit!
I couldn't actually walk properly until Friday last week (bloody Shaun T and his leg stuff!) then had too much family stuff to do over the weekend - so I am now trying AGAIN with my week of Max:30 - no excuses!

Just kicked off with Cardio Challenge again - I warmed up with some treadmill intervals first and did extra calf stretches after just to make sure I have working legs tomorrow!

I'm also going to be following the Body Coach month 1 eating plan this week for a bit of damage limitation! It's basically two low carb meals a day and some carbs in the meal after exercise. Having a bagel as my Max:30 reward. :)

caitlinohara · 07/03/2016 17:12

Hi all, was doing really well and then had a bit too much champagne on Thursday night to celebrate exchange of contracts on new house Blush so had a day off on Friday ... which also happened to be ds2's birthday and we went away for the weekend as his present, so had Saturday AND Sunday off as well Blush Blush.

Did Ript Circuit this morning though and it was fine. Modified some of the cardio (man I hate cardio) and the push ups (still can't do the feckers) but used some heavy (for me) weights for the rest and it was ok. Need to do a lot more strength workouts though. Had a look at P90x3 again but I still can't do the Fit Test so I am shelving it for the time being. Moving house in just over a week so need to put my energies into that for now.

Well done to everyone else! Purple it's hard not to eat crap when it's cold though, isn't it? It's bloody freezing here today and I had to restrain myself from eating half an entire sourdough bloomer.

Boobz · 07/03/2016 20:10

Caitlin I really would recommend doing P90X (the original) first - it's much easier to get into, I think than P90X3 which I gave up on after about a week (and I am P90 fanatic!)

I fell off the food wagon on Sat and Sun too, but fasted today so feeling much better now. Have also put on a bit of weight Purple - despite logging all these miles, so I really do need to watch what I eat for a bit as I want to be light for the marathon.

Was supposed to run this morning but realised I left bloody trainers in NYC!!! And then i couldn't get my music to play on my iPhone either (and I can't run without music) so gave up and did Max Interval Plyo instead. And then this evening I did a 25 min ab work out with DH from his freelitics work outs - am going to feel that tomorrow I think! Bought some new trainers and a funky head/sweat band to keep my headphones in my ears (they always pop out but could manage to keep them in with a beanie but now it's too hot in Rome to run with a hat, so am going to have to do the McEnroe look ha ha).

So 9 miles tomorrow, 6 the day after that and then 20 miles on Friday - the longest run on my schedule. Eeek. Might eat some porridge on that day.

Purple for your marathon training, what did you eat before the long runs and what did you eat in the few days before the actual race?

caitlinohara · 07/03/2016 21:38

Boobz It's the time issue with P90X for me. I just can't commit to 60 mins plus every day. Wish I could. I'm hoping that a few more weeks of T25 will get me fitter and stronger and I will tackle P90X3 then, but I have to admit I am not blown away by the workouts I have watched so far. There seems to be more cardio than I was expecting, dammit. Angry

Boobz · 08/03/2016 15:15

Yes that's why I swapped to Insanity, because of the time that is needed for P90X - it was fine when I was on mat leave but too hard to fit in around work and kids. P90X is not that much cardio at all really, 2 out of 6 work outs a weak I would say, and the Kempo one is not really all that cardio compared to Insanity (can't really remember P90X3's amount of cardio).

Was supposed to run this morning but got into a big debate about finances with DH which went on and on, so did an Insanity month 2 during lunch break instead. But will defo go for a run tomorrow - will do 9 miles if not raining.

EleanorAbernathy · 08/03/2016 18:18

My extra warm-up and stretching seems to have worked and I have fully functioning legs today!

I went for a 5k run as my warm-up today then Tabata Power - I was feeling very unfit about 5 minutes in but managed it. I was channelling my inner baby elephant for the power jumps at the end.

Purpleraindeer · 08/03/2016 20:50

Hi all!

Did tbc tonight. Have decided to do a t25 week for a change. Wow. Tbc is a very efficient (or do I mean evil?) work out. My abs are tired! I like that the exercises change over quickly tho so that way whenever something is absolutely hideous (lunge/squat things) you know you only have to hang on for a short while before it changes. Speed 2.0 tomorrow. Yay!

Boobz re nutrition pre marathon I carb loaded for the 2 days before and then had something high carb before all my long runs and race itself. I also did long runs with energy gels to get used to them as they can make some people feel sick. In the race itself I took a gel at 5,10,15,20 and 23 miles. Google marathon nutrition and you'll find loads of advice. It's worth taking tho - my DH doesn't believe in any of this stuff and has majorly crashed in every marathon he's done at c22 miles. I wonder why???

Glad it's going well Eleanor. I love/hate the power jumps at end of tabata. They make me feel hardcore!

Purpleraindeer · 08/03/2016 20:52

Caitlin - if you want to minimise cardio on p90x3 I think there is a 'strength' programme option? Definitely less cardio overall in it than t25 - and Tony's cardio is much less cardio-y (is that a word?)

caitlinohara · 08/03/2016 21:46

Well done purple. I know what you mean about it moving on quickly, but when you're moving on from those bloody 180's into burpees into pike ups, it just feels like a more cunning method of torture... that said, I'm doing it tomorrow Grin

I had a look at the Mass version of P90X3 but it reckons you should do the Classic programme first, so I might at least start with that (eventually) and see how I get on.

Glad your legs are working now Eleanor!

Purpleraindeer · 09/03/2016 20:58

Speed 2.0 tonight. I love it. it's so fast. Whenever I start it it feels like it's on fast forward!

Boobz - what is the freeletics thing your DH is doing? did he get a personalised program? Does he like it?

onlywhenyouleave · 10/03/2016 07:11

Morning Smile I am an old member of this thread but I stopped exercising and stopped posting Blush think I might have had a name change since so you may not recognise me anyway!

I have started T25 again this week - going back to the start and working through the 10 week programme again.

I completely lost focus and motivation for a few months, have piled on weight but I can't go on. Was struggling with doing exercise after work so made the decision to get up at 5.15 and do it before I get ready for work. Am on day 3 and it is working so far - I love that it is done and dusted and not looming over me all day Grin

Did TBC this morning - I remember how much I hated that workout! Having to modify quite a bit as well but I expected that. It is still not as bad as the evil burpee-intense Speed 3.0 GrinGrin

Glad that you are all still here and I am going to read the thread and catch up on what you have all been up to.
