This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

My running sucks at the moment. Not only have I not managed to make it to parkrun for 6 weeks but the soleus injury I thought I was over came back while I was running a half marathon at the weekend and forced me to run/walk the last 6 miles and post a PW :(

It's feeling OK now after copious amounts of rest and ice but I'm very worried about the trail half I have this Sunday as it felt OK before the last half too Sad

chutneypig · 28/09/2015 21:23

That sounds rough Blathers. I don't know anything about that type of injury, is there anything to guage how it is before the weekend?

How old is your DD Jessie? I'm guessing not too old based on the pram. Congratulations on your twins, it's an exciting journey. Mine are eight. They're very keen on parkrun Smile

JessieThom · 29/09/2015 06:33

She's 20 months so will just be two when our twins arrive, very exciting, and a little daunting! Lovely to hear that your twins are park runners, it's such a great habit to foster early, are they competitive with each other?

feetheart · 29/09/2015 06:57

That's rubbish Blathers, hope the rest sorts it out.

Jessie - I was just 2 when my mum had twins. I'm the other side of 50 and she still feels guilty about turning my singleton life upside-down. I don't remember it being any different :)

Ohone and Thursday - didn't realise that Saturday is parkrun's 11th birthday. Bushey could be busy Grin

chutneypig · 29/09/2015 07:01

It's the one thing they're not too competitive over everything else they are. DS started off much faster but DD has made huge strides at junior parkrun. At the main run DS usually runs with DH as I'm embarrassingly slow Grin and DD with me. They've all got PBs I can't hope to reach but it is fabulous to get us all out.

I'd not really thought till you asked that actually they're pretty supportive of each other running. While I was away they all did the main run together and DD got in under thirty minutes and DS encouraged her rather than grumping. Parkrun has done DS the power of good overall, given him a very positive focus.

JessieThom · 29/09/2015 08:10

That sounds lovely Chutney! It's so nice to hear positive stories about twins, I feel like I'm forever being told how difficult it will be and how they'll fight all the time, I'll need to be so careful to foster their individual identities etc etc etc... Clearly Park Run is the answer! Grin

feetheart · 29/09/2015 08:54

I think parkrun is the answer to an awful lot of things Grin

They come out with different personalities as far as my experience goes - DSis was the ultimate stroppy redhead though has calmed down over time and DBro is still the most relaxed individual I have ever met, even with 6 kids Shock
DS has 3 sets of twins in his 2 class year group and they are all very different personalities though they are all non-identical. Not had much experience with identical twins so not sure how much different that may be.
I loved being the big sister of twins as you got all the kudos of things being a bit different but didn't have to share a birthday :)

chutneypig · 29/09/2015 19:32

I found most twin mums were very positive, it was other people who told me life would be a living hell. Just what you want to hear! They do squabble but they're very fond of each other too. My dad is a twin too. Both sets are very different personalities. Their teacher did get them muddled up in their reports last year though - on athletics funnily enough Grin.

DD has nearly got her 10 runs in now, so when they do I'm going to let the school know so they can hold their t shirts up in assembly. A few of their school do the junior event, so I'm sure a few more could be enticed along.

How are you feeling today Blathers?

I didn't realise about the birthday either - too focussed on it being our home run's third birthday. Too busy thinking about cake Smile

JessieThom · 30/09/2015 09:14

Thanks Chutney and Feet; you're right that parents of twins have mainly been very positive - it's just everyone else. I was talking to a neighbour last night, she's 65 and is training for a marathon at the moment; I'm so impressed that she's taking this on now she's retired and said how I'd like to be able to do the same when I retire. She looked totally stunned and said "Retire?! You'll never be able to work again once you've got twins dear!" Outrageous! I really had to bite my tongue to force out an "Oh, we'll see..." and scuttle quickly inside.

Great idea about telling your DC's school chutney, hopefully it will encourage lots of kids to get involved!

feetheart · 30/09/2015 10:35

Oooo, cheeky mare Angry

I only found out about the parkrun birthday this week, it hasn't even been mentioned in any of the ED discussion groups that I've seen, so I think they must be playing it down this year. I remember turning up at St Albans last year and being 2 of about 8 who had made the effort to come in fancy dress Grin They aren't very big on themed events though :)

Blatherskite · 30/09/2015 15:53

Foot still feels fine - but then it felt fine before last weekend's half too so that means nothing Confused

Going to give it a test run tomorrow as I have 10k planned with a friend. Assuming that goes OK, I will do my first parkrun in 6 weeks this Saturday, then see my physio to have it strapped with KT tape and then run the half on Sunday. There's no way of really telling if it's going to be OK until I get there and do it really. I had yoga this morning which gave it a really good stretch (and wasn't painful) and will do another session on Friday. I think between the yoga, the tape, the shorter runs, massage and the rest and ice, I'm doing pretty much all I can do to ensure it's OK. You lot could cross fingers for me I suppose...?

Jessie I think sometimes people have this odd need to point out all the negatives when you are expecting. If it's your first they'll tell you how much life is going to change and how little sleep you'll get. If it's your second/third/fourth they'll tell you how much harder things are going to be when the new baby arrives. With DD everyone seemed desperate to point out to me how rubbish a December birthday was going to be and what a poor child she was! Ignore them. There's no doubting that twins won't have it's challenges but it'll have it's bonuses too and you'll be fine. Nothing to do now but embrace the situation and make it work for you. And twins!! How exciting is that!! Grin

chutneypig · 30/09/2015 18:31

Fingers are duly crossed Blathers. Sounds like you've done everything you can.

The comments get better when they're here. I had one lovely woman telling DS that he looked like the nice one. To be fair DD was giving her a death glare but still. And I manage to potter along at work even with twins and can't be doing too badly as they promoted me this week. Blathers is so right about people always finding something.

So far I've found runners to be very positive. Look at us lot Grin. Really looking forward to parkrun this week, not just for birthday cake. Although cake always helps.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/10/2015 17:56

I saw it mentioned somewhere feetheart but not sure where. What are these mulitple ed groups you speak of I'm only in one Sad

My mum is a twin, 3rd and 4th children and I don't remember my nan ever being negative. I babysit for twin girls too, they're lovely Grin

Blatherskite · 02/10/2015 18:55

10k went OK. My outer 3 toes went totally numb but at least they didn't hurt Grin

Been resting it since and have given it a good stretch out at yoga this morning. Will do parkrun in the morning to test it and am going straight from there to the physio to have it massaged and strapped. Then I've juist got to get round 13.1 miles of trail. Easy right!?

chutneypig · 02/10/2015 19:12

Numbs got to be better than hurting- with that positive attitude you can do anything! How trailey is the trail? Fingers are still crossed for you.

steppemum · 03/10/2015 12:55

first parkrun in ages and I got a PB!

38:27 which is I minute and 1 second faster than my last pb!!

I am seriously chuffed

MyBlackCat · 03/10/2015 13:24

Well done steppe I was pleased today too coz I almost got within 1 min of my PB and it was my third quickest time on the course Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2015 13:29

Good luck blatherskite!

Well done steppemum!

Lovely if a bit chilly parkrun today, average pace for me.

chutneypig · 03/10/2015 16:35

Thats fantastic steppe, well done. Bet you still feel fabulous.

And great too MyBlackCat.

I really enjoyed today, getting within sight of my PB. Even managed a sprint finish, so felt really good after.

It wasn't the warmest here cinnamon but I wasn't complaining on the second lap!

HalleLouja · 03/10/2015 19:23

No parkrun for me as doing the Willow 10k that Feet did last year. In fact I was still in bed when parkrun was finishing. It was lush.

Well done Steppe and Blackcat.

MelanieCheeks · 03/10/2015 22:48

Well done steppe!

I did my 99th today in Pretty darn good conditions at my home course. 2 mins off my pb, but it's my best time in a while, and with a hangover I'm happy enough.

feetheart · 04/10/2015 08:40

Well done steppe, great feeling.

So what are your plans for No.100 Melanie and does Minnie get a 100 shirt to match her 50?

Marshalling with DS yesterday so lots of shouting, cheering, clapping and some throwing of confetti as one of our regulars ran her 'Hen do parkrun' :)

See you at Hatfield Halle - there will be a few red Striders there.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/10/2015 14:53

Ooh Melanie, almost there! Well done Smile

Good work all! We had a beautiful park run yesterday and I managed to get DP to push the buggy so I got a reasonable time, which was nice. He was thrilled as it only slowed him down by 38secs he reckons.

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2015 15:49

I am bringing buns. Iced buns!

I have also made a video montage - I'll not say too much about it so's to keep the surprise element, but it covers all the events I've been to.

I am getting a barcode tattoo (it's a fake one but don't tell them that - I did ask the scanner yesterday if a tattoo would work Wink)

I have designed and ordered a T shirt, but it might not get here in time. It has a map of NI on it, and I will be sewing a button at the location of each parkrun.

As Minnie has not been to all the runs I have, she hasn't earned her 100 coat just yet!
