This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Oh, and we have one fast male who occasionally chooses someone to run with and pace them to a PB. He's promised to do that for me , although my target time of 24.15 is a good bit off the 26s I've been running lately.

(The age category record stood at 23.57 for some time, and I had that as a feasible target, until last week, when a runner on her birthday ie just new to that age category absolutely smashed it down to 21.40........)

HalleLouja · 04/10/2015 19:49

Feet lovely to see you earlier. I see you managed to sneak in under one hour -- just. Thanks for adopting me. It was lovely to see W too. He's so sweet. Managed 56.46 which is my second best 10k time and not actually that much slower than Whipsnade.

Hoolit · 04/10/2015 21:19

Hi, I've been reading with interest getting tips Smile. I've only been running 3/4 months but with a bit of pushing and encouragement I did my first park run yesterday.

It had some short but steep inclines which was hard as all my runs have been flat but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back and improve my time.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/10/2015 21:51

Welcome Hoolit Smile and congratulations on your first parkrun

As you will discover, parkrunning is vey addictive!

Halle well done - you were well under an hour, hardly sneaking under with over three minutes to spare Smile

Melanie looking forward to your montage Smile

Jessie not sure if we have said hello Smile congratulations on your twins. My grandmother was a twin, and she also had a set of twin brothers (great granny ended up with six children from four pregnancies - there were two singletons as well Smile). It wasn't your DH who was in second place at my parkrun while pushing a buggy yesterday? The man in question lapped me coming towards the finish, and zoomed round the corner (with the buggy on two wheels, it's quite a tight turn down to the finish Grin)

Well done steppe that's a massive leap forward Smile

Well done BlackCat as well Smile

I had a fairly speedy-by-my-standards run yesterday, completely unexpected as I was suffering with a combination of the after effects of a new yoga teacher on Friday and I accidentally ended up with a a bit of a hangover Blush. We have started having breakfast (as well as our usual coffee) on the first Saturday of the month, which helped Smile

Ohone feet had literally seconds to spare. Apparently a few people had to pull out as they got stung by hornets from a nest in the middle of the path. It was almost like a cross country run.

Hoolit · 05/10/2015 06:49

Thank you OhOne

There was a couple of runners with buggies and they were running at speed! I was in awe Smile

Already looking forward to my next one but not for 2 weeks but I have some practice runs planned.

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/10/2015 07:41

Hello everyone, I'm being a pain and marking my place to catch up v soon

steppemum · 05/10/2015 08:55

welcome hoolit, parkrun will soon become a staple part of your life Grin

Is blathers around? wondering how your foot is/was and how you got on this weekend??

cinnamongreyhound · 05/10/2015 10:04

I'm in awe of anyone running with a buggy JessieThom!

Hope it was good at Hatfield feetheart and Hallelouja. Some of our parkrunners ran it. They met at our parkrun and are now best of friends and call themselves the blister sisters (and now a mister too!). I see you did well, congrats to you both Smile

Those are some plans MelanieCheeks! I'm getting there slowly 83 runs now but 44 volunteering so that really doesn't help the cause!

Welcome and well done Hoolit!

JessieThom · 05/10/2015 10:34

Thanks OhOne. :) I don't think it could have been him as we don't have a two-wheeler buggy, although that does sound awesome!

Cheeks all your fun plans sound great, particularly the barcode tatoo, I think I'd like one of those... It's amazing what you can do with a good pacer too, best of luck!

I'm planning to get fitted for some new trainers this week - feel like my tread is very different with a growing belly pulling my weight forwards. Hopefully new shoes will help me keep park-running for longer. :D

steppemum · 05/10/2015 10:58

I am in awe of all your pregnant runners and running with buggies.

At our parkrun this week was a lady with a baby in a sling on her back. I was pretty impressed.

feetheart · 05/10/2015 12:52

We cheered in the Blister Sisters Cinnamon, thought it was a great name Grin
10k with added jeopardy curtesy of the hornets - my running partner was on that side and her squealing alerted me to something going on but my dodgy eyesight meant I didn't see anything. Luckily none of our lot got stung but there were quite a few at the end with icepacks on their heads and necks Shock

Ohone - you occasionally have some very quick buggy runners don't you?
We have one pretty quick one who I realised was wearing this year's London Marathon finishers t-shirt when her baby was no more than 10 mths old Shock although our most impressive one came in as first female finisher AND was visibly pregnant ShockShock

Hoolit - welcome to your new obsession Grin

GladysTheGolem · 05/10/2015 17:02

Can I join?

Did my first park run this weekend, will be alternating with DH, aside from weeks he's working so hoping to get to 1-2 a month. Long way to my 50 shirt!

I'm doing a 10k next month, signed up for a HM in Feb and am down for the ballot for new places at the Brighton M. If not will be doing another one later in the year....only been running 11 weeks, well and truly got the bug.

feet that's amazing! steppen, interesting idea with the sling, hmm, our DD is 10m.

cinnamon, wel done on volunteering at so many!

Blatherskite · 05/10/2015 17:59

Yay! My HM went brilliantly. I ran parkrun on Saturday and it was stiff but not sore or numb and then went straight to the physio to have my foot massaged and taped. I was nervous at the start but soon got into a good rhythm and ran the whole thing (the last 3 I've had to walk for parts) and was completely pain free. I even knocked 21 minutes off last week's HM time!! Still another 11 minutes to go before I'm back to PBs but it feels like a huge step in the right direction. I raised and iced it last night as it felt a bit swollen and it's fine today. Not sore or stiff at all. Really hope this is it 'fixed'.

Absolutely LOVED that half too. Tissington trail. It was ALL very slightly downhill and so beautiful. Already entered for next year Grin

Hoolit · 05/10/2015 20:00

Thank you for the warm welcome Smile

Gladys you sound like you are well on your way signing up for hm and contemplating a sling too!

Blather sorry if I've missed it but what happened to your foot? Sounds like it's been a painful road.

Does anyone else park run at Whitley Bay? It's a lovely route along the sea front but I confess to not noticing too much as I was concentrating so hard!

Do you all run regularly in events besides the parkrun? I'm thinking of signing up to a 10k but think I need a bit more practice.

Blatherskite · 05/10/2015 21:06

I strained my soleus which is the muscle that runs up the inside of your calf from the arch of your foot. Walking was fine but being up on my toes to run was absolute agony. I did another HM the weekend before last and ended up run/walking in tears from the pain and frustration. It was so good to just be able to run.

Hoolit · 05/10/2015 21:39

Bloody hell hats off to you doing a hm like that!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/10/2015 22:10

I haven't recently Hoolit as I had a baby in April but I have done once 10k since then and I'm doing one in October. I've done a few hm but I don't have the time dh who's happy to have the baby both mornings of the weekend to do a long run Sunday so would have to miss parkrun to train for a hm or try to do a long run one evening Sad

Blatherskite · 05/10/2015 22:45

Thanks Hoolit but with the pain gone it was just a case of keeping going.

I run quite a bit in term time. Once or twice a week normally while the kids are at school and DH is at work. Plus parkrun on Saturday's obviously Wink I also do yoga a couple of times a week as I find that getting properly stretched out really helps stop me getting injured...usually at least. I think I damaged my foot running silly distances after doing very little training while the kids were off for the summer. Trying hard to get back on it now they're back at school but the injury hasn't been helping.

steppemum · 06/10/2015 09:14

I have only been running since April. I run through the week I try and do 3 times including parkrun but I have missed a lot of parkruns.

I haven't signed up for anything else yet, dh is running a hm on Sunday and having watched him train, I am not sure that is within my reach just yet. I would like to do a 10k.

I really want to do colour run though, the one where they chuck paint everywhere, but dd wants to do it, and she isn't going to be running 5k any time soon, she has done a couple of junior parkruns but walked most of them.

chutneypig · 06/10/2015 18:47

Blimey - lovely to see the thread so busy!

Welcome Hoolit and Gladys. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of you - as the others have said parkrun is very addictive. I've only been doing it this year, so not as far down the path as some here with some very impressive totals. But I'm definitely addicted.

So glad to hear it went well Blathers, wonderful after all your efforts. Lovely bit of the country too.

I aim for three runs a week but I'm very slow so it takes a while to get any distance covered. I've got my first 10k on Sunday. I've been thinking about a HM next year but am a bit concerned about factoring in the training time. I've looked at some plans but always get thrown by trying to adjust them for parkrunday. Has anyone seen any that do work that into it, to make my poor head hurt less?

Gait analysis sounds sensible Jessie. It might be worth looking into some bump support for later on, I think I saw them when I was pregnant but was definitely not doing any exercise! The underside of my bump got very sore later on, the weight of DS no doubt. He squashed his poor sister.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/10/2015 22:53

chutney if I'm following a plan that asks me to run more than 3 miles on a Saturday I run to/from parkrun (it's only just over a mile each way for me and I usually cycle).

I'm running a 10K on Sunday - I did the same one last year so have a time to beat. And will be on tour on Saturday at one of the Norfolk parkruns, probably Blickling or Catton as they are closest to where we are staying.

Welcome to Gladys and well done Blathers. Don't like the sound of your hornets Halle and feet!

steppe this HM plan is mostly 3 miles on Saturdays Smile. I used their full marathon plan for my one and only marathon and it got me round in one piece Smile

Thanks ohone, that's incredibly useful Flowers. There's so much information out there, real life experience is such a help.

ThursdayLastWeek · 07/10/2015 07:36

Hello everyone!

OMG Bushey is a world apart from Lanhydrock!

I ran the first half with my sis, then the second half alone and recorded a time of a little over 30 mins - made me wish I'd left my sister behind Wink
I came 894th. Jeeeeeeeeez there's a lot of runners there!

Hope you've all had good weekends, welcome hoolit and gladys!
