This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Now you lot have got me thinking about a Nyd double...leicester 9am then braunstone 10.30 looks like my best option. My more sensible local option is Daventry 10am. Will need to persuade DH and depends if we end up with NYE guests

FiftyNineOhEight · 30/12/2015 20:22

steppe you aren't doing 10K Grin You are doing two parkruns, with a break in the middle (pretend it's the usual week in between). Honestly, I did a double last year and it didn't feel like a 10K.

lego less thinking, more doing Grin think how good you will feel at 11:00 on NYD Grin

Blatherskite · 30/12/2015 22:09

I've not run properly for weeks thanks to a combination of illness, holidays and getting a tattoo which meant that I couldn't sweat for a fortnight! "Fit" is definitely not a word I'd use to describe myself at the moment! Still, the NYD double MUST be done.

Just had a meeting request for a Saturday afternoon in Exeter. I actually checked the local parkrun options before I checked the route Blush Still, I need to be down there quite a bit between now and March so I should be able to get a few more courses ticked off down there at least Grin

chutneypig · 31/12/2015 07:33

I like the idea of sleeping in running gear Grin. Go for it steppe. Are you still feeling stiff today?

I think it's the law to check parkruns before other travel details Blathers!

I'm viewing parkrun as getting me back into getting up before work next week. Triple hit of NYD, Saturday and tail running at the juniors on Sunday. I haven't run for a couple of weeks either, but I have been doing Jilliam Michaels workouts over Christmas so hopefully it won't be too woeful. Hopefully.

MelanieCheeks · 31/12/2015 07:56

Some of my running team mates are planning to join me at the 11 am one - I'm trying to get them to don some tartan ribbon too, so we can have a jolly team photo! Minnie seems back to normal, so I'm confident she'll be able to come too.

My home event put out a call for volunteers this Saturday, so I'll do that instead of running.

HalleLouja · 31/12/2015 09:20

I am no longer doing the double but will be at SA. Am doing some technique training at 8.30 tomorrow instead.............

FiftyNineOhEight · 31/12/2015 10:25

Blathers hope your tattoo is your parkrun barcode Grin

DH and I have just booked a weekend away as our Christmas present to ourselves. Little does he know that there's a brand new parkrun round the corner Grin, not that it made any difference to the choice of hotel, oh no

Hats off to you chutney for doing Jillian - I look at my DVDs sometimes (and look away again)

Halle hope to see you at SA tomorrow Smile. Technique training!?

feetheart · 31/12/2015 12:36

I've just found my New Year's Resolutions from last year:

Running resolutions for 2015:

  • Get under 26mins for 5k
  • Get under 60mins for 10k
  • Get our own parkrun up and running
(the last one might make the first one difficult Xmas Hmm)

Two out of three is not bad - the last one did make the first one impossible difficult.
So Running resolutions for 2016:

  • Run 2 parkruns a month
  • Get under 26mins for 5k
  • Get under 2:10 for a half marathon
Although all this will have to wait until I am actually running again! Hopefully I can start swimming and up the walking from next week.

Technique training sounds interesting Halle, I'll think of you as I set up the course :-)

feetheart · 31/12/2015 12:38

59 - we are meeting AT THE START tomorrow to try and start on time for the first time ever so people have time to travel between their chosen parkruns

FiftyNineOhEight · 31/12/2015 13:05

Understood feet Smile

Blatherskite · 31/12/2015 19:49

Tried a measley 1.5 miles this afternoon and it almost killed me! 10k tomorrow - and both courses are trail! - is going to be the death of me!

Assuming I survive, I'm planning on doing the same as cutney and attempting to start off my new year quest to retrieve my fitness with a double parkrun, followed by a normal parkrun on Saturday and a gentle 2k taking DD round junior parkrun on SUnday - actually, scratch that, I've just seen the roster and it is VERY empty so I'll be volunteering. There's currently no tail runner but I think maybe tokens might be more useful!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/12/2015 23:45

I'm intrigued why you can't sweat blatherskite or even if that's possible!

Hope everyone enjoys a great start to their new year. I bloody love parkrun!!!!

steppemum · 31/12/2015 23:54

well, I don't think I am doing a double tomorrow - looked at the map and chippenham is a long way.

But I will do NYD and then Saturday (may see if they are short of volunteers on sat)

In response to dh challenge this week I ran/will run
sun - 7km
tues - 10km
thurs - 5km
fri - 5km
sat - 5km

(which is one run more than him)

feel like a bit of a fist pump moment Grin

Happy New Year all.

running resolutions for 2016:
50 parkruns by feb 2017 - so aim for 3 per month Shock
under 30 minutes by next Christmas
run enough to loose weight

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 07:56

Good running steppe and good running resolutions too!

I'm up and about to head out to Luton - see you there feet!

Happy New Year parkrun chums, I love this thread Smile

chutneypig · 01/01/2016 08:24

I think tail running will be all I'll be capable of by Sunday Blathers. I'm hoping I don't have to do another humiliating sprint to catch up when people drop out. Thought DH was going to burst laughing, at least he's marshalling this time so not likely to see Grin

DD is all dressed and ready and sporting her new thermal hat, which she'll need, we've got the first frost for ages.

Nothing like a bit of competitive spirit steppe. Looks like a great plan.

I'm also aiming for sub thirty this year, to beat my 10k PB of 65 and do a half marathon. And the all important 50 milestone hopefully this year - number 24 today Grin

Happy new year and happy parkrunning everyone!

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/01/2016 08:47

Happy New Year friends!

Are you all off park running today? Lanhydrock just sticks to Saturday's over the festive period, and all my running friends are heading up brown willy in this dreadful weather later Happy to be upduffed Grin

I haven't run for 3 weeks! Oops. And now am 30 weeks pregnant, so I'm going to go for a waddle tomorrow morning.

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/01/2016 08:50

I love reading all your resolutions.

Mine last year were something like, get PB, get married, get upduffed so I'm feeling rather successful!

This year, my running aims are to get back to running in order to run a local 10k in August, and one of the harder 9mile mud crew runs in December. And to get back to within touching distance if my parkrun PB, which is 26.something.

Here's to us!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2016 12:34

30 weeks ThursdayLastWeek, where did that go Shock I remember your resolutions last year I'm sure getting 50 was one of them too.

We smashed our participant record today, 140!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we had one of the original 13 running with us with a golden barcode! Grin I did 26:40 followed by 27:38 which would be a fab 10k time! Our course is tougher as well as me being a bit more tired but I felt good today. So pleased we were so busy and I ran around Thetford with a tourist I'd never met before who then beat me at my home run but did come and say hello. Swapped dogs between so they've both had a run today. All I need now is to get some one from my family vaguely interested in parkrun!

MyBlackCat · 01/01/2016 13:36

Really pleased with my NYD double today, together they work out as a sub 51 10k which is way faster than I've ever run. My home course was run backwards today, can't decide if it was easier or not as we still had to go up and down the hills Smile I did a new course for my first of the day - 3 laps which was different, very flat but strange to be able to see the finish throughout. Will probably go back as it has PB potential.

Happy new year to everyone x

MelanieCheeks · 01/01/2016 13:45

Happy New Year!

Started at Comber, which was quite icy, but it's a fairly flat and mostly gravel course so it wasn't too bad. The other local one at Waterworks was cancelled due to ice - tough decision! My time was pretty decent at 27, but a minute off my PB here. I did run with the champagne bottle though, hope someone got pictures!
Then there were about 400 at Stormont. The heavens opened and it POURED! There is no shelter at this course at all, so we were soaked, and I didn't get many of my intended photos. I did meet lots of old friends, though, which was nice. The course was very muddy, and I just about got a sub-30.

Think I'll put my feet up in front of Sound of Music now.

chutneypig · 01/01/2016 14:45

That's brilliant cinnamon what a fantastic day. One of the original thirteen is quite something. I've not heard of the golden barcodes before.

Running backwards must be odd MyBlackCat and good to have found a potential PB course.

Liking your style Melanie hope to see some pics.

We had a great run at our neighbouring course. It was very muddy and DS managed to become detached from both his trainers. Luckily he wasn't running with me so I didn't have to deal with it. No PBs needless to say. Just hoping the rain holds off for tomorrow, the reports aren't looking good here.

steppemum · 01/01/2016 15:11

I am injured Sad Sad

turns out my stiff leg from the 10km on Tues was a bit more. It was pretty stiff/sore after Tues, but better by thurs, so I stretched well and did a slow 5km, and it was fine.

Then stiff/sore again last night. So this morning I stretched well and warmed up. It felt fine. So off I went on parkrun.
By about 2 km it was uncomfortable to run on, and I slowed right down, then it felt ok, so I finished, and once I stopped I realise that it hurt a lot.

Not sure what I have done, it is the knee, top of calf muscle and round to the front of the knee, hurts when I straighten it.
I have been sitting with an ice pack and it is a bit better, but hurts to walk on.

I am mightily fed up, I was hoping that my good running week was the start of good running 2016. I can't bear the thought of being out of action for a couple of weeks and having to 'start again'

grump, grump, grump.

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/01/2016 15:12

Well done everyone! If the weather was as bad everywhere else as it was here I salute you for getting out at all, let alone to do a double!

Well remembered cinnamon - I'd forgotten my 50 aim Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/01/2016 15:13

Sorry, terrible X post there steppe. Sorry to hear you're crocked. Hopefully it's nothing that a bit of rest won't fix Thanks

sweetvparsley · 01/01/2016 15:59

Oh dear steppemum hope you're not on the bench too long.

Well done to all of you that managed the double today!

I am hoping to run again tomorrow but am a bit wary because I have never run back to back days before as I am very prone to calf injuries so usually like a couple of days to recover.

My plan to run tomorrow may have been scuppered anyway because I put my favorite cold weather gear in the wash as soon as I got back this morning but the machine has got stuck and won't pump out. We're trying to drain it but are running out of old towels. I will have to hope that the weather warms up a little for tomorrow.
