This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Oh no steppe. How bloody irritating. I hope it's nothing major and some rest will help. Is there anywhere you can go for expert advice?

MelanieCheeks · 01/01/2016 17:36

Steppe, I know it's the pits to have to rest...but you NEED to if you want to be back running. Do get some advice, it could be any number of things.

Here's some pix from this morning - I think Minnie was the only dog to do the double, so I'm very proud of her!

I'm so impressed with everyone who managed two parkruns today. I'm very impressed with myself for managing just one! We are staying with friends up in Glasgow and found a parkrun that didn't start till 11am. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming but blimey those hills! In the introductory talk the guy said "welcome to the ten hills of Tollcross" which was fair warning. Lovely run but sore calves now

Blatherskite · 01/01/2016 18:05

Well, I worked out today that the last time I ran parkrun was November 28th and I've not run at all for about a month so I am pleased that I got round both courses today even if it was quite a bit slower than I'm used to doing.

Taking DS to parkrun tomorrow so will do a slow-ish jog round again and am then tail running at junior parkrun on Sunday. DH is back at work on Monday but the children are off so I might make it a rest day for ease. There is circuits on Monday night but that is a very hardcore session and I don't want to do too much too fast and hurt myself again. Tuesday's club run is supposed to be 7 miles at 9 minute miles which again, might be a bit much this soon so I guess after this weekend, it might be Wednesday and yoga before I do something else. I'm looking forward to the stretch out though.

Sorry you're injured steppe, RICE it, stretch it and hopefully it'll feel better very soon.

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 18:31

Oh no steppe you poor thing. Hope it is nothing too serious. So frustrating!

Had a lovely run at Luton with feet and her amazing crew of volunteers. One of my parkrun buddies wasn't going to run today, but had seen me posting in FB this morning and decided to come after all.

Then we went to St Albans - no parking to be had in the car park and in the streets around, but luckily my friend used to live there so was able to lead me to a parking place. We then had to run to the start Shock and got there just in time Smile. I also managed say hello to Halle and mini-Halle Smile

I had a hot bath when I got home but I was still so cold that I took to my bed for the afternoon. I still feel quite rubbish, I think it was too long in slightly damp sweaty clothes getting chilly. I've also got a headache, as I have stated my annual dry/no caffeine January.

cinnamon brilliant times for both of your runs! and BlackCat!

Hello Thursday 30 weeks already! Wow, that has gone quickly. Enjoy your waddle tomorrow Smile

Liking chutneyboy's style - did he get the trainers back? Smile

Well done Melanie thanks for the pictures!

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 18:36

Blathers well done for doing the double after so long off.

Hope the washer gets fixed sweet

I like the sound of an 11am parkrun reallyneedmoresleep Smile

steppemum · 01/01/2016 19:59

lovely picks Melanie, it does look a bit soggy!

Where is that with the long drive and big house in the background?

Can't believe you managed 2 back to back Blathers with no running for a month!

What is RICE? (or was that supposed to be ICE?)

MelanieCheeks · 01/01/2016 20:06

Rest, ice, compression, elevation.

That's my house with the big drive and the White House........not really, that's parliament buildings, where the Northern Ireland assembly sits, at Stormont. Lovely estate! But by gawd it was wet!

HalleLouja · 01/01/2016 20:31

Lovely to meet you fiftynine mini-Halle was most impressed with his efforts. Especially when we were driving and showed him how far he had run.

Basically running technique guy reckons with a bit a lot of training I could sort out the dodgy left leg when I run. It really is dodgy but is sortable.....

HalleLouja · 01/01/2016 20:32

I meant to say strength training.

Well done to those who managed to attempt parkrun this morning.

standingonlego · 01/01/2016 20:38

Well done everyone who ran singles or doubles today :) Respect!!!!

I left it too late to make it today Blush, but still went for a 4.5m run so not a total disaster. Plotting some tourism tomorrow en route Northwards.

Looking forward to sharing parkrun adventures and stories with you in 2016.
Will be great to catch up in person too Fifty/OhOne, blathers & feet and hopefully meet more of you for real :)

steppe hope you have a swift recovery and blathers do not push too hard too soon

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 20:50

Halle there are some good pictures of you and mini-Halle from today. He did really well! I didn't realise until the end that it was his first parkrun.

Hope to see you again soon lego Smile

Blatherskite · 01/01/2016 21:05

Melanie has it steppe, RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. It's the usual advice given to treat pretty much every running injury going and works in a surprising number of cases. It's the running equivalent of turning it off and back on again Grin If nothing else, it's a good excuse to sit with your feet up when you're feeling sorry for yourself Wink You should do 10 minutes ice-ing, 10 minutes off and repeat for as long as you want. It should get the blood flowing into the area which will help with swelling and healing.

Looking forward to seeing you more this year too lego, it's been ages!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2016 21:22

Sorry to hear about your injury steppemum but do rest, I know it's hard!

Well done to everyone, who's back parkrunning tomorrow?

MelanieCheeks · 01/01/2016 21:55

Volunteering tomorrow! Then grabbing photos and writing up my Christmas compendium blog.

Stormont results are in-attendance records 500, which I suspect means they ran out of finish tokens! But it is the largest parkrun ever in norn So it was pleasing to have been part of it.

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 21:56

I'm planning to run tomorrow at home cinnamon Smile

Blatherskite · 01/01/2016 21:59

I've just looked at the weather report and had second thoughts about being at home tomorrow!

Bed might be a better option!

feetheart · 01/01/2016 22:38

Lovely to see you again so soon 59. Glad you made it to SA, I did worry about the parking after you'd left us but wouldn't have been much help so am glad your friend was there.

SO impressed with DS today - he did a double on 5 hours sleep - us and Tring - his choice! He ran and travelled with a group from my club whilst I was RD (and take down crew) at ours then just watched at Tring - I made it across their foot bridge just as DS was passing so was able to cheer them on then wait at the finish. I now have one VERY, VERY tired boy who may not make it tomorrow :)

Rather concerned about the forecast as we have no cafe tomorrow so have organised a Pop-up one ourselves, could be a Blown-away and drowned one at this rate!!

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2016 22:49

Your DS is a marvel feet, no wonder he is tired this evening. I am tired, and I'm used to running that far. I think I must have also used a lot of energy trying to stay warm as well - I was quite wobbly this afternoon when I tried to get up from my bed, and haven't felt properly warm all day.

chutneypig · 02/01/2016 07:49

So it was minihalles first parkrun adventure? What a way start the year.

You're a braver person than me Fifty giving up caffeine. I'm doing well upping the water but coffee would be a step too far. Maybe I ought to cut down. DH did manage to retrieve DSs trainers but he said it was hard getting them out of the mud. They mocked me for buying an extra pair of my trainers on sale before Christmas but no ones laughing now. We've been frantically drying trainees for today.

Bet minifeet slept well, very well done to him.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2016 08:23

I had the same concern Boxing Day feetheart but all was well. It does look a bit blowy out of my window! Hope your ds isn't too tired today. Our 100 club 9 year old did the double too Smile

Hope your feeling better fiftyNineOhEight!

HalleLouja · 02/01/2016 10:17

Chutney it was his first and not his last as he wants a tshirt.

ThursdayLastWeek · 02/01/2016 10:50

Woop I made it around!
40 mins at 30 weeks Grin

feetheart · 02/01/2016 11:34

And on your course! Well done Thursday :o

DS was up and raring to go this morning though he did want to do a slow one! Ran round with his mate and their light-sabers (as you do :) ) I await the photos with interest :o

The heavy wind and rain didn't materialise and our Pop-up Cafe was a huge success with very little input from me.
Had a fab post on our FB page after today's run that made me a little teary, parkrun really is magic and I LOVE the community that it creates.

chutneypig · 02/01/2016 11:54

Glad to here you escaped the wind feet it would have been such a shame for the cafe. It wasn't as bad here as we feared but the course was as muddy as I've ever seen it. The thought of the lightsabres really made me smile.

I think the ten shirt is a great draw Halle I think it was all that kept DD going through her first runs. DS is on the downward trail to his 50th now so definitely excited by that.

Bows down at Thursdays feet. Faster than I managed without the passenger! Well done.

My slowest run yet, apart from Lanhydrock. But glad to get out, and motivated me to look at my training plans a little sooner than I as thinking. The DC happily chatted about their runs all the was home which made me smile.
