This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

cinners! That cake is fabulous! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, congrats to your RDs Smile

I hope everyone has a good run? I was timekeeping today in foul weather, my hand was moulded into a stopwatch claw after an hour. Not fun, but my TK partner and I, who have bad form together got all the numbers in perfect sync!

MyBlackCat · 19/12/2015 15:10

Great cake cinnamon

I volunteered for the first time today, I was a Marshall near the end and wore my Santa hat and played Christmas songs from my phone Smile my hands are hurting from all the clapping I did.

Really enjoyable to see Parkrun from the other side. Will be doing it again soon.

steppemum · 19/12/2015 15:19

LOVELY cake.

didn't even try and wake ds today, he was truly crashed out.
dh and I went, it was a really hard run for me, the friend I normally pace along with was well out in front and I was struggling to keep her in sight. But was then surprised to see it was quite fast!

Friend was chasing the 35 marker, and I was chasing her... so 37:37 which is only 14 seconds off my pb.

I will be in ascot on boxing day, need to look up and see if there is a local parkrun.

HalleLouja · 19/12/2015 17:42

parkrun done. Badly but never mind. I think interval training on Thursday has killed them.

chutneypig · 19/12/2015 17:47

Fantastic cake cinnamon.

That's what worries me about timekeeping Thursday I imagine I'd be out of sync. Probably start panicking like I do in those visual field tests and accidentally pressing the buttons at the wrong time.

Marshalling is great fun, glad you enjoyed it MyBlackCat.

That's great steppe. Hopefully you can get in a spot of tourism at Christmas.

Today was definitely one towards the T shirt, course worst Grin but great fun. DD predictably completely overheated early on but the wind was a killer.

Great cake, Cinners!

Happy with my outfit, which got lots of positive comments today at Queens (though I've just been watching the Waterworks coverage on teh evening news....)

Wow, great pictures!

cinnamon lovely cake! Hope the barbers went well Smile

Melanie I keep forgetting to say that I have appliance envy every time you post pictures of you in your kitchen Smile Brilliant costumes for both of you Smile

Thursday hope you have thawed out. Well done to you and BlackCat for volunteering Smile

Well done steppe on a speedy, almost PB run Smile

Halle and chutney never mind, there is always next week.

chutney DS1 told me he wouldn't be coming this morning as it's 45 minutes walk from his house to the park. So imagine my surprise when he turned up - he'd blagged an overnight stay with a friend who lives nearby! I was quite tearful that he'd made the effort Smile. My friend and I ran most of the first lap together, then she shot off Smile. DS cheered me on as I went round for the last little loop. All three of us will probably do the Sheffield half in April.

Blatherskite · 19/12/2015 22:15

I was RD today for the first time in well over an year and managed not to balls it up! Grin

feetheart · 20/12/2015 08:00

Well done to all the volunteers, I love seeing parkrun from the other side - I was truly shocked the first time I realised that the super-smooth fast ones were just as shattered at the end as I was Xmas Blush

Love the outfit Melanie and may have to nick the elf quote when I wear my elf onsie on Boxing Day - 59 you have been warned Xmas Grin

Really warm day here, I have never seen so many runners stripping off enroute! As we are a 3 and a bit lap course I was 'cloakroom attendant' at the finish area for first few laps as the layers were pealed off!

Great run for DS who was paced to an overall parkrun PB. He was going for a Luton PB, and got that by nearly a minute, but in doing so took 27secs off his overall PB, set at St Albans which is a flatter course. Happy, happy boy Xmas Grin

HalleLouja · 20/12/2015 18:00

Well done mini feet. Mini Halle might be coming to do parkrun with me on BD. We will see.

MelanieCheeks · 20/12/2015 18:21

Chutney, we usually go with 2 timekeepers - so we check with each other just after the start to make sure we're running at the same time, and then at the finish line we check every so often that we have recorded the same number of finishers, and check that tally with the finish-token-giver-outer.

steppemum · 20/12/2015 23:17

well done mini feet!

chutneypig · 21/12/2015 07:02

Well done minifeet. There are few things happier than an boy with a PB Smile.

Maybe I should work my way up Melanie, I'm sure I couldn't mess up the tokens (famous last words!) and just get a better feel for it all.

Oh that's lovely fiftynine what a great thing for him to do. Such a nice surprise.

Excellent blathers!

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/12/2015 22:25

Well done minifeet Grin

It was indeed a lovely surprise chutney. The warm glow wore off when I started on the washing mountain and came home from work to an empty fridge Grin Wink (not really, he's a smashing lad)

feet DS2 has also deigned to consider joining us on Saturday - his rugby teacher has set him quite a tough fitness schedule to keep him going over the holidays Grin

Halle I have a feeling your mini is smaller than mine - hope to see you both on Saturday!

HalleLouja · 21/12/2015 22:39

Halle he is 7 and 3/4 if you ask him. I keep thinking he is actually 8.

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/12/2015 22:42
Grin

I managed to accidentally lose a year this year - I was convinced I was still 47, until I realised I will be 49 next month Grin

HalleLouja · 22/12/2015 11:35

Fifty so in just over a year you will be the first word of this sentence.

feetheart · 22/12/2015 13:14

No better age to be Xmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 22/12/2015 17:06

Our park is shut Saturday so we're taking Christmas left over and I'm getting tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Two rd's have gas camping stoves and are bringing a couple of large water carriers. I've seen a hot chocolate slow cooker recipe but how long after I've unplugged it to take it to parkrun do you think it'll stay warm? Anything else you can think of we should have?

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/12/2015 21:08

Hang on a year minute Halle let me get go grips with being my real age Grin

cinners I'd imagine that if you didn't open the lid it should stay warm for quite a while. It sounds like you and the other RDs are making a lot of effort, hope your runners appreciate it!

steppemum · 23/12/2015 22:38

Oh fifty, we are the same age! My birthday is feb and I will be 49.

I have now done 13 runs, and so have 37 to do in order to have 50 before \i am 50.

It is going to be hard going - average 3 per month, and with 3 missing for summer holidays, there isn't much room for manouevre!

MelanieCheeks · 24/12/2015 08:19

Can you get any extra ones snuck in over Christmas and New Year?

Keeping up my Serial Tourist certificate, I'm planning to run at 5 different events between now and 2nd Jan, though I understand it's only in a very small number of locations that running 2 on NYD will be possible.

As my elf headband doesn't stay on very well, today's task is to create a Brussels sprout crown to wear instead.

New age category for me next year!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/12/2015 08:40

We are starting at 10.30 nyd so I can run one at 9 and get to mine to either volunteer or run depending on what is needed.

feetheart · 24/12/2015 10:44

We are starting at 9am then some going to St Albans (flattish)and some to Tring (NOT flat!) I'm RD at ours then volunteering at Tring as DS wants to run it!!
There will then be a lunchtime meet-up at Tring's 'cafe' (pub/restaurant!) for anyone, plus families, who wants to recover with good food :o
