This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Trex I promise you that having this thread to report to is marvellously motivating!
Good luck tomorrow!

HalleLouja · 23/10/2015 21:27

59 next week I am in Cyprus then I am supposed to be doing Barclay on 7th.

Trex don't blame us if you get addicted.

Blathers get well soon.

steppemum · 23/10/2015 22:12

welcome Trex, be warned you will get hooked.

I did my first on June and I ran all of it, but at the slowest possible pace, and it took me 42 minutes, so you will be fine at your speed.
I was so embarrassed being so slow, but everyone was so lovely and supportive and encouraging, so I came back!

Last week we had a dad and his daughter running.

She wore a shirt with a big arrow pointing at her dad 100 parkruns today
He wore a shirt with a big arrow pointing at her saying 1st park run today. They went round very slowly, at her pace and everyone who went past made a nice comment to them, it was fab.

There was also a runner in trekking sandals, but very battered and well worn, not much more than barefoot. Our course is very gravelly, it must be very painful to run.

I ran 10 km yesterday, first time ever, feeling very smug, but also feeling very achy, dh has warned me not to expect a pb tomorrow, I will be lucky to get a good time. So now of course I really want to prove him wrong!

feetheart · 23/10/2015 22:23

59:08 - I have made malty chocolate chip cookies at DS's request :)
It could be an 'interesting' parkrun as I had a text this evening from a runner saying that work in the park may mean we have no access to the boathouse so no signs, arrows, cones, loud hailer, hi vis or finish funnel Shock I will be bringing garden canes and string just in case!!

TRexing - enjoy :)

Happy running/volunteering everyone.

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2015 23:02

feet DS2 claims to be keen...we will do anything for a choice chip cookie Smile

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2015 23:03

choc

steppemum · 23/10/2015 23:16

ds has announced he will come and run with me, and try and get round the first loop as he can't possibly run 5k!

It remains to be seen if he makes it there in the morning!

chutneypig · 24/10/2015 07:30

Have great runs today everyone, especially Trex. You'll love it.

Hope it's not too complicated for you feet.

Hope DS enjoys it steppe. The first parkrun I did was with both DC (in for a penny in for a pound). DD did the first lap and DS finished, even though we'd planned for them to stop after one. And well done on the 10k, I couldn't believe it when I managed it last month and it felt great.

TRexingInSportsDirect · 24/10/2015 10:33

Well, I did it!! I ran loads of it as well. I did much more running than I thought I would. But I did get lapped by lots of kids and old people, haha! I thought I might be sick at one point, and thought 'I'm never doing this again' in fact I half thought I wouldn't finish this time, but I did. I might even do it again next week.

There were loads of people there, it was fucking weird! Loads of people in running gear appearing from all directions, from cars, walking, some even ran there - to do running! It was like an athletic zombie apocalypse. Everyone was nice, I mostly spoke to the people with dogs I mostly spoke to the dogs.

How do I find out my time? I signed up for text notification, but I haven't had a text, or email.

Thanks so much for your encouragement everyone!

TRexingInSportsDirect · 24/10/2015 10:57

Update: I got a text. I came 136th. I think there were about 150 people running. I did it in just under 34 minutes which I am amazed by (although I really, really did my best, and then some)! Feeling pretty smug with that - yay!

ThursdayLastWeek · 24/10/2015 11:07

Well done TRex! That's a smashing time!

We all half drowned down here, but most of the barcodes and both the scanners kept it together - about 20 names on the manual entry list. Much better than we expected given the conditions!

sweetvparsley · 24/10/2015 11:45

Fantastic TRex You should be really proud of yourself!

Like you, I used to be amazed at the number of people who run to Parkrun until I realised that starting with an easy walk then jog on the way there means that it isn't such a shock to your body when you actually start the race run.

In my post prang return to Parkrunning, there was a theme. It was my 20th ever parkrun, I was running at a course which had its 20th week and I was the 20th woman to finish.

FiftyNineOhEight · 24/10/2015 13:35

Good numbers sweet I like it when that happens. I recently ran my 96th while away from home at what turned out the be the 96th event for that parkrun and was very happy!

Massive well done TRex now you have to go back next week!

I thought I was quite fast today, but turned to to be 2 minutes slower than last time I ran at home. Oh well. There's always next week Smile

feet sorry we didn't make it, DS2 was unrouse-able this morning and it looked so miserable out that I decided that if I was going to be wet and cold on my way home I'd rather have a 10 minute cycle than a 35 minute drive. But the coffee club is keen for another trip to see you all soon Smile

chutneypig · 24/10/2015 15:01

Excellent Trex great time. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'd not thought about paper bar codes in the rain Thursday. Sounds a challenge. I thought it was going to tip down just before we started but I held off.

How did it feel sweetparsley?

I'm holding on to the always next week FiftyNine as well. OK first lap but the second....... Anyway DD was thrilled. Lovely shout out at the start, she ran the entire way and smashed over a minute off her PB to come in at 28 odd. Which reminds me, must email the team to says thanks for the mention.

Blatherskite · 24/10/2015 15:14

No parkrun for me as I woke up feeling horribly dizzy thanks to what I'm increasingly beginning to think is a sinus infection without the snot.

Glad you went Trex. parkrun is a little like a lycra-clad flash-mob :)

HalleLouja · 24/10/2015 15:18

Well done Trex!

parkrun no 49. Tick. Really lovely course at Oak Hill. The cafe looked lovely but I didn't go so will be back soon.

sweetvparsley · 24/10/2015 15:59

Thanks for asking chutneypig. My arm actually feels more comfortable when running than it does when I am walking as it no longer straightens properly. It feels very "heavy" if I have it dangling at my side. I managed to put in a respectable time but was about 90 seconds off my PB.

sweetvparsley · 24/10/2015 16:02

Oh I meant to say Blathers, sorry to hear that your bit of tourism didn't come off today. I hope you are feeling better soon.

steppemum · 24/10/2015 23:20

well ds didn't make it, I discovered him playing on his phone at midnight, so he was still flat out fats asleep when I left.

Technical problems mean we won't have any official results until after junior parkrun tomorrow. But my phone says similar to last week (which was a pb) so I am happy especially as the 40 marker kept over taking me, so I was going WTF (in my head) and over taking him back!
It was chucking it down, so veyr cold and wet at the end.

Well done Trex can't believe your time for a first run not jealous at all really no not me

chutneypig · 25/10/2015 06:14

That's good going sweetvparsley, it must feel very strange.

How are you feeling Blathers?

Fingers crossed steppe. Do you often have markers at your run?

Well we're up bright and early - no danger of oversleeping for juniors today!

TRexingInSportsDirect · 25/10/2015 09:27

Thank you everyone! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I will go back next week - it's Halloween fancy dress! Well done Thursday getting out there in the rain, that's dedication!

parkrun is a little like a lycra-clad flash-mob YES!! I knew it reminded me of something - that's exactly what it was like!

FiftyNineOhEight · 25/10/2015 09:50

We need to remember the lycra clad flashmob line for our next thread total Grin

Hope the junior parkrunners run well today Smile

steppe phones get handed in here at bedtime after a couple of 3am incidents over the summer holidays Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 25/10/2015 09:50

I meant title, not total.

MelanieCheeks · 25/10/2015 20:31

Well done trexing, great first run!

I was outrageously hungover at south mancs, but did get round, and cracker the squirrel was featured in their write up.

steppemum · 26/10/2015 21:58

5908 - phones are left on charge in the living room at bedtime, and books are handed in at lights out!
Unfortunately if I forget to check it is there it sneaks upstairs. He has been known to hand in the 'wrong' book too so he can go on reading!

We all went out running this morning, well, dd1 on her bike, dd2 ran 2.7 km (7 years old) and ds (aged 12) did 3km, he was very pleased, didn't think he could run so far, so he is planning to do 5km with me on Sat. dd2 wants to do junior parkrun, and for a change we can actually make it. I am not allowed to run with her apparently as I am not fast enough Hmm

To the person asking about markers, we have 20 min, 27 min, 30 min, 35 min and 40 min every week. But we have about 500 runners, so a bit of organisation is needed. It usually takes me 30-40 seconds to get to the start line, so parkrun times are always 30 seconds slower than elsewhere.
