This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

That's a good range of pacers steppe but I guess with more people there's more likelihood of volunteers. We have between 200 and 300 each week but sometimes it can take that long to get over the line, it's very random. Our start is quite narrow.

no PBs for my two on Sunday but we actually had a battle on for first place, which I missed as I was marshalling. DS is very close to his PB most weeks. DD was a bit tired from her 5k efforts.

Could be a busy parkrun weekend then steppe! There's no way I'd be allowed to run at the juniors. I'm still Blush at having to sprint past the parents when I was tail running with DD. Not my finest hour. I prefer the rest on a Sunday with a coffee and some energetic clapping.

Well done TRexingInSportsDirect!!!

Hope you feel better soon Blatherskite!

Nearly there HalleLouja! What are your 50 plans?

Who's dressing up for Halloween parkrun?

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2015 08:49

I'm dressing up! I have a dios de los meurtos costume, must dig out some face paints and practice a sugar skull. Minnie has a skeleton onesie, must fix the legs so they're not too tight for running. May take Cracker the squirrel with a hanky over him as a ghost.

There are several close by runs that have said "fancy dress!", I just need to choose one. I'm guessing it'll not be a PB day......

feetheart · 28/10/2015 11:12

We are - me as RD in my orange hi vis pumpkin and DS as a zombie once we have been through his wardrobe/been to the charity shop to find old clothes to rip up :)
I get the impression that our parkrunners like the themed runs - there was great support for our last minute 'Luton Town's first home game' parkrun, there has been LOTS of discussion about halloween costumes and much excitement about a Boxing Day parkrun which will also be fancy dress. We also have our ace photographer on duty on Saturday so I am expecting some cracking pictures Halloween Grin

steppemum · 28/10/2015 14:09

Ours is fancy dress, but I can't imagine running in costume!

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2015 18:32

Took the Minnster out fro a run this morning in her costume, so she gets used to running in it.

Here's the South Manchester report.

TRexingInSportsDirect · 28/10/2015 20:21

I'm going as a fairy this week! It's not very halloweeny, but I thought I could wear my normal running gear, but with a tutu and wings on top! My other idea was a surgeon - because scrubs look comfy for running - and a surgeon mask might be good for my running-induced sore throat! But the fairy outfit was cheaper! What's everyone else going as?

sweetvparsley · 28/10/2015 21:48

Grrr - I went on a trip to our local big city with my daughter who is on half term this week. One of my intentions was to visit the fancy dress shop but it had an actual queue outside it and bouncers to make sure the shop didn't get too full. I'm afraid that we didn't have the patience to stand around so I didn't manage to pick up an outfit. I will have to see if our local supermarket has anything suitable.

Blatherskite · 29/10/2015 21:23

I might just wear the t-shirt they gave me at the Spooky Sprint a couple of years ago as it has a ghost on it.

I've got to be fully zombied for Saturday night as I'm working at the Wicked 5 race and then I have a witch costume for RDing at junior parkrun on Sunday. Not sure I can be bothered for parkrun too!!

feetheart · 29/10/2015 22:36

Blathers - rather jealous about Wicked race. Really want to do it but can't justify abandoning family again :)
We were walking round the forest on Tuesday and thought it is a fab place for a race - lots of places to leap out and scare runners Halloween Grin

I now have a pumpkin RD hi vis vest and the cones that go on the top of the bollards look suitably spooky Halloween Smile

Blatherskite · 30/10/2015 13:58

I'm rather jealous of everyone running it too. I think I'm looking after race HQ so will miss a lot of the scaring.

FiftyNineOhEight · 30/10/2015 21:47

sweet I have been known to parkrun in my PJs and dressing gown for want of a better fancy dress idea. All went fine, except for when I had to walk/cycle past my local hospital on the way home, I think passersby thought I had escaped Smile

I am on tour tomorrow, probably to Cambridge unless I decide to take the Wimpole turn off on my way there Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 31/10/2015 07:04

I'm such a Halloween Scrooge, I can't be arsed to dress up!
We're going to a partt later and I've got some tights and a poundland mask - a token effort at best!

Have fun today everyone

FiftyNineOhEight · 31/10/2015 14:18

Grin Thursday

I went to Cambridge, couldn't keep up with the 30 minute pacer today (quite slippery underfoot and I'd had a late night). Bumped into a friend who was nordic walking.

I met another tourist who had a T-shirt saying "Shrewsbury park runner on tour" on the back - she said that she and a bunch of friends had clubbed together to have them printed. I thought that was rather a good idea Smile

steppemum · 31/10/2015 14:27

Hi everyone.
I had a good run today - with ds!!!! (he looked really nervous before we started0
He settled into his stride quite a bit in front of me and came in in 35:08, which he is thrilled to bits about as it is faster than my pb and he ran all the way, which he was amazed about.
he said how motivating it is to run with a crowd.

I am a bit fed up, thought I had a good run and my phone showed I had a time of 37:34. I knew it was about 10 seconds out as it didn't start first time when the siren went at the beginning. But only 10 seconds and all way round I was running a good pace.

But my time came in from parkrun as 38:08 Sad

dd2 is running tomorrow, in a witches dress apparently!

MelanieCheeks · 31/10/2015 14:49

Great outing to queens, lots of dressed up runners, and I even managed a pb!

I think my coach's core training might actually be working....

TriJo · 31/10/2015 15:05

Did Highbury Fields today, wanted to see how much I've slowed down at 20 weeks. Absolutely delighted with 27:56 - thought I'd be outside 30 minutes. Really enjoyed it too, feel less banged up after that than I did last weekend after running loads of hills in Hampstead Heath.

MyBlackCat · 31/10/2015 15:32

Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhh after two weeks of no Parkrun it was finally time to complete my 25th and halfway to a t-shirt run. As I like symmetry I set my self the goal of sub 25 on my 25th. Official time = 25:01 so close yet so far, a little bit gutted that I didn't start my sprint finish earlier Shock

It's good to be back though and I know what my goal will be next week Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 31/10/2015 16:40

Well done everyone!

As always Melanie I salute the effort you put in to parkrun! You (and the dog) look fabulous!

I believe oxygen sucking parasite baby doesn't like jiggling around too much (although it does plenty of its own accord) so braces itself on my bladder the very second I start to run Grin
I succumbed to walking, and had a push up the hill from a helpful zombie this morning Grin

A big turn out for us today too, a shade under 200.

chutneypig · 31/10/2015 17:59

Some great times here. Well done everyone.

Bit slower than I'd have liked but for the first time I didn't stop once. So felt very pleased. It was quite muddy and DS a fell over as people were going round a puddle. His leg looked a mess but ok once we washed him off at home. He was feeling a bit sorry for himself.

There wasnt a single person in fancy dress at ours - was quite surprised. Nothing as striking no as Melanie and her side kick!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/10/2015 21:02

I'm the same ThursdayLastWeek but no one else wanted to rd today and I felt you couldn't have a fancy dress run without the rd dressing up so I did.

Happy to give Cambridge or wimpole a go when you're next there FiftyNineOhEight ds3 has dropped his mid morning feed so I'm a bit freer now.

Well done to everyone who ran. Our 8 year old 100 club runner turned 9 today and celebrated with a 25:25 pb Smile

MelanieCheeks · 31/10/2015 21:25

Pah! Apparently we won the fancy dress pwize, but we'd gone! Ah well, the recognition is enough for me, thank you to my parents, my trainer, my stylist, my dog food supplier......

FiftyNineOhEight · 31/10/2015 22:27

cinners that would be lovely. I did google map the home > your parkrun > where I had to be at 11am this morning route but it would have added quite a lot on to an already long journey. But I will get to you one of these days, not least because I want to get on the 20 parkrun tourist list like Melanie and Blathers Smile. There's a newish parkrun close to my parents so I will find a reason to visit them over a weekend soon Grin

Well done chutney on running all the way - brilliant! Hope DS is OK.

I hope the zombie wasn't a scary one Thursday. Blooming babies. It's just brilliant that you are still going. And as for you TriJo, that's pretty much my ancient PB. Take a bow!

Good numbers BlackCat Smile

Melanie we all bow before you. Amazing costume - how did DDog enjoy running in hers?

steppe maybe the times were a bit off-kilter. Well done to mini-steppe. Hope DD does well tomorrow!

steppemum · 31/10/2015 22:59

Melanie, - love the way dog is also dressed up!.

There was a teacher from dds school as tail runner today. All dressed up complete with chains!

dd has got out her witches dress (not long fortunately) and hat. I have added a t- shirt and leggings underneath!
Apparently I am not allowed to run with her, but I have to come to the start and then take her hat, and then be 200 metres from the finish to give it back to her!
Ds is so chuffed with this morning, that he said he "might as well come and run junior parkrun tomorrow - its only 2k" Grin
I think I may have a little race on my hands

HalleLouja · 01/11/2015 05:05

Unfortunately I spent the day sunbathing and was far too far away to parkrun.

So my 50th will be at Barclay in Hoddesdon next Saturday Cinners. That will be my 8th different parkrun. Am aiming to do Grovelands before the end of the year too. Maybe 20 is achievable. Am thinking there are a few in Watford plus MK and north London. ....
