This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

My boobs have gone up 4 sizes in 19 weeks cinnamon!
And actually I was happy to buy some new bottoms as they were starting to get a bit see through anyways Grin

Buying new kit always motivates me for another week or two!

MyBlackCat · 16/10/2015 19:19

Feeling a bit gutted - tomorrow should be my 25th and halfway to a tshirt run. However I've got pain in the top of my foot, from googling I've diagnosed extensor tendinitis. It's come on really suddenly, felt it a bit walking yesterday, but today on some steps I am screaming out loud.

So it's looking like my 25th run will be delayed unless it goes as quick as it came. Off on holiday on Tuesday and was hoping to do a fair bit of running. I've not really overdone it recently so bit perplexed as to why and how this has happened Sad

sweetvparsley · 16/10/2015 19:36

I am a bit of a lurker on here but thought that I would break cover to commiserate with MyBlackCat on the problem with your foot and hope it doesn't keep you away from Parkrun for too long.

I too am currently on the bench, having broken my arm.

I am signed off work and am avidly scouring the Parkrun Global site and dreaming of far flung Parkrun trips that I might one day do.

I also find that looking at the Flickr pages of other courses is very calming and I think would make for good "slow TV".

I was intrigued to see at the K?dzierzyn-Ko?le course in Poland, a number of the runners do it bare-footed. I don't know whether its to do with some Catholic penance. Does anyone speak Polish who could enlighten me?

Blatherskite · 16/10/2015 21:47

Bare foot running is a fairly big craze at the moment. It might just be that they have a big group of them.

I have party nails ready for Luton in the morning. Just got to find some clean kit now!

MelanieCheeks · 16/10/2015 23:56

Where shall we go, Cracker?

I know, let's do the new one at Colin glen!

Oh that's interesting Blatherskite - is it your toe nails that you've painted?!

Hope your recent nornirn conquest went well Melanie.

Afternoon all Smile

Today was a hard one, I rolled my ankle along the first bit by the river which was annoying. I walked it off a bit, but I got bored so jogged the rest of the way, including a bit of a walk up the hill so my time was 34 mins.

I've put myself down for two lots of volunteering in the coming weeks, it's just a bit too hard to do every week.

How's everyone else?

cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2015 14:18

Slow and emotional today, I am finding I can't run on my own as it makes me cry but the dog stopped for a poo and I couldn't catch up, feel very daft running along in tears but got so much going on I think running releases it! 30:44 for me.

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/10/2015 15:16

Oh cinnamon Sad
Why so emotional? You poor thing

cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2015 15:23

A combination of things ThursdayLastWeek, life in general is hard at the moment, too many things to do not enough time. Lots of minded children including a 15month old which with a 6 months old of my own is exhausting. Financial stresses and my volunteering things (my own fault I know) needing more of my time than I have. Plus a dh who is working really hard at work and is stressed out so generally less supportive at home (I don't blame him at all) and I'm still worrying a lot over ds3's kidney even though he's doing very well, I worry about his future.

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/10/2015 15:26

Oh my lovely, no wonder you need company to run. It's good for getting time out, but it doesn't half give you time to worry about stuff too.
I'm sorry life is so stressful at the mo, I hope it's a case of things can only get better Thanks

MelanieCheeks · 17/10/2015 15:59

You're right, running does release emotions, but it's good to have that release valve. Hope things pick up for you. Flowers

Me? I was after the age category record at Colin Glen. As I was running through the very lovely autumn trees but very hilly paths I realised that there was a bunch of speedy blokes ahead of me - sometimes so far ahead I couldn't see them - but no-one hot on my heels. As we did 2 laps of the lake I could see the spread of runners, and reckoned I was the first female , so I ran my hardest to maintain position.

Crossed the line in 25.30, smashing the age category, and scooping my first ever First Female! Woohoo!

It helped that this was their 2nd event, so the big numbers had been there last week, plus there was another very popular race on at Dundrum today, where many many runners were attending.

Lovely finish to my birthday week Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 17/10/2015 17:40

Oh cinnamon lots of ((())) for you my lovely. It is probably doing you some good to let it all out. Such a worry about DS3, but he is doing so well and getting good medical care and lots of love from you, Mr Cinnamon and his DBs. And it's tough juggling work, little boys and all your extra stuff. But you are a strong lady and will get through it all Flowers

Hope your ankle improves Thursday

Well done Melanie you super-speedy star! I can't imagine going that fast Grin

sweet welcome! And do share how you broke your arm!

BlackCat I had a horrible foot pain last year - it came on in the night and when I stood up to get out of bed and put weight on my foot I almost passed out with the pain. My GP sent me for an X-ray as she though it was a stress fracture but nothing showed up (apparently this is not unusual). It cleared up after RICE-ing for a while, but comes back every now and again - the GP said that if not a stress fracture it was probably soft tissue damage. Hope you feel better soon - I was still able to cycle when I was benched with the poorly foot as it was non-weight bearing, is that an option for you if you need some endorphins?

MyBlackCat · 17/10/2015 19:48

Thanks fifty how long were you not able to run for? I've only been back running since April after over 12 months out with torn knee ligaments and can't face another lengthy lay off.

I'm off on holiday on Tuesday and was hoping to do some running in the sun, I'm hoping it settles by then. Frustratingly it didn't even start whilst running Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2015 19:53

Thank you guys, probably slightly over sharing Blush

Wow, fabulous MelanieCheeks! Great time and first female Star

steppemum · 17/10/2015 23:11

wow Melanie, amazing stuff!

Cinnamon hugs from here too. Well done for keeping up with the running in the midst of it all.

I had another pb today, really pleased, 38:06, so knocked 22 seconds of the previous one.

chutneypig · 18/10/2015 07:07

No wonder you're feeling emotional cinnamon. I thinks it's good if running helps get some of it out.

I am in awe Melanie and amazing week of achievements. Fabulous.

It must be easily done Thursday, hopes its feels ok today. You still beat my time - I'm sure that's a huge consolation Grin

Thats rough MyBlakCat, how frustrating. Especially coming out of the blue like that.

Welcome sweetvparsley. I like the idea of bare foot running but I think I'd be so worried about treading on some thing sharp I'd fall over.

Thats a really good chunk off steppe well done!

MelanieCheeks · 18/10/2015 08:09

Party nails, Blathers?

standingonlego · 18/10/2015 08:25

cinnamon big hugs to you. I think we sometimes all have so much going on in our lives it can feel overwhelming. I find running helps me cope by giving some time and space to process emotions, it is really important that we create a way to "decompress" rather than explode.

Some fabulous achievements on the thread, love to hear about PBs and that everyone is progressing.

fiiftynine / OhOne do not think I have said well done on the name change yet :)

I was in tourist mode yesterday and ran at burgess Park in London. I manage to drag a friend along too (since when did we all start bringing gym kit on girls weekends?). Given the amount of gin and Wine we had the night before I was delighted with my 27.16....exactly the time I ran at home run the week before. But the best bit was trying to keep up with a Dad doing a constant commentary to coach his junior (about 7/8 years old I think) to a new PB. He smashed it at 27.01.

sweetvparsley · 18/10/2015 08:51

Wow - some great stories.

cinnamon It sounds like you have everything going on at the moment, look after yourself.

My arm got broken when I inadvisedly braked too harshly and went straight over the handlebars of my road bike on a steep down hill.

I definitely won't be taking up barefoot running - I have had too much contact with the ground already.Sad

MelanieCheeks · 18/10/2015 13:49

My write-up of Colin Glen

cinnamongreyhound · 18/10/2015 21:32

You are all so lovely, thank you! Had a much better day today and feeling more positive Smile

Sorry to hear about yours arm sweetvparsley!

MelanieCheeks · 19/10/2015 12:44

Glad you're feeling a bit more positive - can we send parkrunnerly hugs? Smile

Anyone know any of the Manchester events?

cinnamongreyhound · 19/10/2015 14:03

Hugs are always welcome in this direction Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/10/2015 12:47

BlackCat I think I was out for at least a couple of weeks. I assumed it wasn't a stress fracture - the initial x-ray technician couldn't see anything and they told me I'd get a phonecall if the consultant found anything, which never came, so just went back when I felt ready.

Ouch sweet I never go fast enough on my bike to need to brake sharply Grin

Steppe you are a ROCKSTAR!

lego glad that Burgess worked out for you. I spent many an hour picking dog poo and broken glass out of the rugby pitch there when DS1 was little. One of my colleagues lives round there and runs at Burgess and tells me it i far nicer these days Grin

Melanie sorry, no gen on the Manchester runs.

And yes, (((hugs))) make the thread a better place.

Are we ready for this weekend? I am on my 11th day of no running Shock - crazy hours at work last week, busy weekend and crazy again this week. I am going to try to persuade DS2 out this afternoon for a run or a bike ride. All this rest should make me fly round on Saturday, no?
