This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Brilliant video and blog Melanie - I may be taking notes for our 1st birthday in 6 months time :)

Lovely parkrunday for us - HORDES of volunteers as it was the local Baptist church's take over (they do it once a month :)) and in a week where positive images of a British Asian woman from Luton were all over the press our first female home was a local woman running in a hijab Grin

chutneypig · 11/10/2015 12:39

Can you imagine going through the pain of a tattoo only to find it didn't scan Grin.

Sounds fantastic feet.

Finished my 10k and wasn't last Grin. Aside from 'D'S announcing to my friend that he wanted to go back on the climbing frame after DH finished as I'd be another 15 minutes. Actually managed 66 minutes and a 5k PB to boot. Must up my game at parkrun.

Teawaster · 11/10/2015 17:37

That video was great Melsnie . Congrats on your 100th run. I do Bangor every Saturday and did Comber once but your video made me realise there are some lovely other spots in NI . Love doing Bangor though

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/10/2015 17:55

lego my London knowledge is not what it was (is a while since I lived there), but you could probably get to Burgess Park, Dulwich or Crystal Palace quite easily from Kennington, but you'd need to catch a bus as none of those are on the tube.

I will read the rest of the thread properly later Smile

Bushy is definitely worth making the effort to get to- it's such an experience! Otherwise, crystal palace is easy to reach, and is a lovely route round the park.

Tea waster, I'll give you a shout next time I'm heading for Bangor! Next week will be the new one at Colin glen ( and I think I stand a chance of beating my age category time!), the week after I'm for Manchester.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/10/2015 19:00

Melanie well done on your 100! and great blog, buns and doggy Smile. I feel a MN parkrun tourism trip to NI coming on!

at cinners' SIL Smile. What a thoughtless woman she is.

I waved to you cinners as we went past the sign for your country park on Friday night and again on the way home today Smile. I also liked the change to the sign for Thetford Ranges - someone has added an "O" which really tickled me.

Well done BlackCat that is a super-speedy first mile!

lego you can add Brockwell to the list I posted before. All those parks are my old manor, DS1 learned to play rugby in Peckham Rye and Burgess Parks, we used to go to a mini train thing in Brockwell Park and the dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park, and I spent more Sunday mornings than I care to remember in Dulwich Park. All pre-parkrun though.

steppe you need to start marking your calendar Smile.

Brilliant feet Smile.

Well done chutney I did a 10K today as well. DH finished before me and was waiting for me and said he was amazed when I turned up as quickly as I did Smile

OP posts:
Teawaster · 11/10/2015 20:25

Do that. Should be fun. We are in the same age category!

chutneypig · 12/10/2015 07:06

I was taking any amazement as a compliment, of sorts ohone! In complete contrast to my weeks of training and working up to it, DH hadn't done any training other than parkrun and then ran the whole 10k in 56 odd. My official time came in at 65.30, goodness knows where the extra thirty seconds went but not complaining Grin. And I definitely had a few walk breaks! Even better I have a spa day booked for today.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/10/2015 22:33

Haven't seen that sign OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I would have waved back if I'd known. How was blickling?

My team said they missed me Saturday.

We're doing a New Year's Day parkrun at 10.30 Grin planning to run bury at 9 and then volunteer at ours. Or if we have plenty of offers do the double. 83 currently and so want to make it to 100 by the end of summer next year. I'm RD Boxing Day and we're not doing a Christmas one.

JessieThom · 14/10/2015 10:51

Yay! Well done to all - what a great parkrunning week! :)

I ran painfully slowly last week but was very happy to get round as I turned up feeling shattered. Thinking of volunteering this week and having a walk afterwards instead but not sure if that's just a cop out and I'll never run again at that rate...

I've never (bad parkrunner alert!) volunteered before - any recommendations for a good task to start with; all the marshalling slots are gone, but I could perhaps timekeep or scan barcodes?

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/10/2015 11:09

I like barcode scanning the best and timekeeping the least, but that's just me.
I haven't ever handed out the barcodes but I would like to Smile

MelanieCheeks · 14/10/2015 17:06

I like timekeeping best! Partly because it's all the excitement of the finish line, cheering everyone right across the line. And also cos we have a back-up timekeeper so if things go wrong there's a second machine. On scanning duty - it HAS to be right.

If scanning was done indoors it might be more pleasant in the cold. Fingerless gloves, is all I will say.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/10/2015 20:20

Personally I find timekeeping less stressful than scanning, too much pressure from waiting runners! Tokens is reasonably stress free but either way you should be given full training on what to do if something doesn't quite go to plan Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 14/10/2015 20:39

Hello - this is 010203 with a new 10K PB Smile

Cinners Blickling was good thank you, not quite as fast as my previous visit. And it was their 96th event and my 96th run, so that tickled me (it was luck that it happened that way, not judgement!). It's a lovely course and you really feel out in the open, a nice change from running in a neatly laid out Victorian park in the middle of town.

I like marshaling, scanning and tail running, I don't like funnel management and I've never time-kept. Token giving out is good too Smile

chutneypig · 14/10/2015 21:33

Nice PB Fiftynine Smile.

I've marshalled and been tail runner, but at our junior event. Tail running involved a very inelegant sprint in front of the waiting parents. Not my finest hour. But I think would be great at the main event. Timekeeping scares me, scanning bit less. But tokens sounds like a good bet.

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/10/2015 22:10

Nice new name 59!

MelanieCheeks · 14/10/2015 23:06

Way to go 59!

HalleLouja · 15/10/2015 08:57

Ok I have been out of parkrun action the last few weeks but am back on it on Saturday.

Well done fiftynine. Did you do a pb dance??

cinnamongreyhound · 15/10/2015 13:13

Not sure I can speak to you under this strange new face FiftyNineOhEight but fabulous pb!

Quick poll for you all, I am going to be RD on Boxing Day as I don't want to ask my team but I don't want to end up with too few volunteers so qu1- is it too early to ask for help for end of Dec? and qu2- how many of you will be attending a parkrun in 26th Dec as runner or volunteer?

chutneypig · 15/10/2015 20:38

I reckon you'd need to ask pretty soon. I'm sure people will have a broad idea of whether they'll be at home or not. And we'll be running at ours if it's on, or equally would volunteer if needed.

Blatherskite · 15/10/2015 22:32

Going to Luton this weekend!! Looking forward to some cake :)

FiftyNineOhEight · 15/10/2015 23:44

The Luton cakes are excellent Blathers. I would join you but we have something at DS2's school so I won't be parkrunning anywhere this weekend.

I did a PB shriek and gave DH a sweaty hug, since it was he who told me I'd PB'd Halle

Cinners I think I will go back to my old name soon. I would start making for volunteers soon. I have to admit that I haven't thought about running on Boxing Day yet, but we will be at home so I suppose I could either run or volunteer if I wanted to.

FiftyNineOhEight · 15/10/2015 23:44

making = asking obvs Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/10/2015 08:42

I don't think there's any harm in putting the feelers out cinnamon - I'm the kind of person who would be able to tell you what I'm doing (well usually, this year I'm waiting on other family members).

TBH I'd be happy to commit to BD to get me out of stuff with family members Wink

Well my new ginorma-bra and maternity trousers came yesterday. They were v comfortable for my penultimate Pilates class last night, I'm looking forward to trying them out tomorrow morning Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 16/10/2015 16:43

I was very lucky that my bump was very high so I wore my normal leggings until the end ThursdayLastWeek and I didn't change bra until after I had him either.

Think I will wait until mid week as my RD for tomorrow has just had to ask for an additional marshal so don't want to confuse matters!
