This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Wow Thursday that is huuuuuuge. Still a good time for being in such a big crowd though. I'm sorry I didn't get my act together better to come down, although I would have been in the 900's and we would probably never have found each other in among so many people.

When I went to lego's parkrun I was slightly late as I couldn't find parking. I had never noticed how many women fitted the descriptions we had given each other until I had to ask a dozen people if they were lego Smile. One of them even said "no, but you must be OhOne, because someone called lego asked me if I was you" Grin. Luckily she was waiting for me at the end. I was also late arriving at Blathers' parkrun (spot a pattern?), but as it was her 50th I just looked for the person with Cake at the finish Smile

Melanie hope your 100 goes well on Saturday. It's brilliant you have stuck to the 10/10 date - it seems months since you first said you were aiming for it. I've had two cancelled this year, as well as being marooned on holiday, and have volunteered a few times but I don't think I've missed any that I could have feasibly gone to. Still not in cinners' league for volunteering though Smile

Doh! Just went back a page and saw I addressed the HM plan to steppe instead of chutney.

chutney I am a person who likes a plan and some structure in my life Smile. I started running with C25K, and reckoned if that worked for 5K it would work for longer distances. I think a lot of running is psychological, and that following a plan gives you the confidence that you will be able to do whatever you need to - when I started C25K the very thought of running for 6, 12 or 20 minutes was impossible!

I don't think I particularly followed a plan to get to 10K - a lap of our local park at the time was 6 miles, which DH was regularly running, and one day I was just running my normal (shorter) run and thought I'd keep going and walk if I needed to - I ended up surprising myself Smile.

I followed a BUPA plan for my first HM, and keep meaning to follow a plan for the next one I do but life keeps getting in the way (i.e. I'm not prioritising running). I have done enough HMs to know that I can get round within 3 hours provided I can run 10 miles a couple of Sundays before the HM, although I have no doubt my times would be better if I trained more. You just need to tell yourself that it is a 10 mile run with a parkrun tagged on the end - and I tell myself the latter bit is perfectly achievable when I think about many parkruns I have done when feeling a bit tired/hungover/under the weather Grin.

I had a look at your HM plan Ohone!
It requires you to run 5 days a week though and that is not realistic, so I'll put it on the back burner for now and think 10k!

I used to do a standard 5k for most of my runs, but I am trying to make that 6 or 7 km as standard and then parkrun feels more manageable!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/10/2015 20:18

Sorry steppe I hadn't noticed that. I think the BUPA plan might only be 4 days.

The one in the Kara Goucher 'Running for Women' book is 3 times a week right up to marathon training. I've sort of followed it for the 4 halfs I've done as I really can't commit to anything more than that. I really enjoyed the book too unlike Paula's Nike advert book

chutneypig · 08/10/2015 19:36

I'm also a fan of a good plan ohone. The one I used really got me started for the 10k training although I did wing it toward the end becuase of holidays and work trips and just stretched the distance a bit each week. I'd have to do a long run on a Sunday as were quite a distance from our parkrun, so it's good to see one laid out like the one you linked to. I could probably manage two runs in the week. We'll see! I probably ought to see how Sunday goes first!

I might get that book too. I like a good running read these days.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/10/2015 08:29

No parkrun for me this week, got to visit my mil, no idea why sil planned it on a Saturday it's almost as if she didn't even think about parkrun Wink

ThursdayLastWeek · 09/10/2015 08:52

Outrageous cinnamon

MelanieCheeks · 09/10/2015 13:57

Oh dear Cinners, is there no way to do both? I'm visiting my MIL tomorrow too, but parkrun comes first!

I'm fine tuning my buns/ décor/ showstopper Wink. Have found the cutest little squirrel in parkrun colours in Cath Kidston, so he will sit on guard duty by the buns, before having a career change as a Christmas tree decoration.

feetheart · 09/10/2015 15:12

Cinnamon - appalling behaviour by SiL, do these people just not think Wink

I really hope there will be lots of photos Melanie Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 09/10/2015 17:08

It's a 2.5hr drive melaniecheeks and sil wants to be there 11, there is one on the way but nowhere to shower before we get there Sad

MelanieCheeks · 09/10/2015 17:23

Boo, hiss!

standingonlego · 09/10/2015 20:10

I remember that so well OhOne you were the first ever MN person I met in real life :)

Hope everyone has a good run tomorrow, there is always next week cinnamon

chutneypig · 10/10/2015 07:56

We need more bun photos Melanie but absolutely definitely squirrel photos. Enjoy it all, it's a special day.

Resting for tomorrow so no parkrun for us today. I don't thinks the DC are happy at missing the juniors as well tomorrow either. Not that they're parkrun addicts either Grin

Hope everyone who is running today has a great run.

MelanieCheeks · 10/10/2015 08:20

I've been working out the logistics of transporting buns AND dog in the one car. I have the tray half decorated, and will add the finishing flourishes once in situ. Photos will follow. The weather is being very kind - dry and windless, though chilly.

This morning's "where's Melly" selfie will feature my new barcode tattoo, wink wink, nudge nudge.

MyBlackCat · 10/10/2015 11:19

A good run this morning in sunshine - when I woke up it was very foggy and still is where I live but luckily Parkrun is 8 miles away and there was no fog there Smile I was 3 seconds slower than last week but I am achieving consistency. According to strava I ran the first mile sub 8 mins which explains why I was struggling at the end.

Next week will be run 25 for me so halfway to the tshirtGrin

ThursdayLastWeek · 10/10/2015 12:52

Can't wait to see the pics Melanie!

Well done BlackCat! Hopefully by the time you get to 50 they'll actually be handing the tees out - I'm still waiting for mine three months later. Hey ho, it won't fit by the time I get it Grin

I found out a fellow parkrunner is a week less pregnant than me - but there's no way you would know to look at her! I'm blaming the fact that she's younger, taller and it's her first baby for the fact she makes me feel like a heffalump dragging my leaden legs around.
But she is also lovely, so it'll be nice to have a sort-of-buddy.

I have ordered a much BIGGER sports bra and some over bump, proper maternity running capris so hopefully I'll be more comfortable from now on.

MelanieCheeks · 10/10/2015 18:42

Brace yourselves gels, here's

standingonlego · 10/10/2015 20:36

Love it melaniecheeks, lots of gorgeous runs and the cutest parkrun dog ever :)

standingonlego · 10/10/2015 20:39

London based parkrunners can you advise me on some tourism pretty please.

I will be in Kennington Friday night so planning to run a parkrun on Saturday morning....but which one? I was considering Bushey but it seems to be miles from where I will be and do not want to get up too stupidly early, but I am bamboozled by the choice.

steppemum · 10/10/2015 21:04

melanie that is an awesome video!

congratulations.

I have done 7 now, and at the rate I am going, I will be doing well to do 50 before I am 50!

Hmm, that has the ring of a goal to it. (I get to parkrun about 2 times per month and I have 1 year and 4 month til I am 50....)

MyBlackCat · 10/10/2015 21:14

Sounds like you will have it perfectly timed steppe

Great video Grin

chutneypig · 11/10/2015 07:50

That video was absolutely brilliant Melanie. How did the barcode tattoo go down?

You've got some gorgeous parkruns over there.

MelanieCheeks · 11/10/2015 09:30

more bun pics

I was amazed at the number of people who thought the tat was real Smile. Sadly, I can't keep a straight face, I'd be a rubbish poker player.

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/10/2015 09:36

Love that video melanie!
