So, we seem to have filled up the 4th thread. Anyone want to join me here?

OP posts:
gerbo · 30/05/2015 18:04

Can I join?! I just finished week four today. Did anyone find the leap to week 5 tricky? It seems each week 5 run is different and ends with 20 mins I think of solid running Shock

Can I also as about trainers? Bought mine around three years ago, although never used them, so can't remember the cost...think they were around £25! What did you guys pay rightly for your 'proper' running trainers after gait analysis?? Worried it am be too much £ for us at the moment, but I'd like to keep running after the end of the programme! (Hopeful.....)

McButtonwillow · 30/05/2015 18:52

Good question gerbo I'm wearing a cheapy pair from sports direct but if I stick to this and become a long term runner would like to get a decent pair and have no clue how much to expect to pay.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 30/05/2015 20:05

I have a pair of Nike running trainers. They were only about £35 from Sports Direct.

However, my friends got into running and went to a running shop and had her gait analysed. They watch you run on a treadmill and sort you out with trainers to suit. Cost her £95 for those trainers but she reckons it's revolutionised her running.

PenguinsAreAce · 30/05/2015 20:29

Hello! Can I join?

I didn't realise there was a thread, but I have done W6R1 today and feeling fab Smile.

PenguinsAreAce · 30/05/2015 20:30

Gerbo -I've just finished week 5 and honestly it was fine. The first run was a jump, but jot as hard as it seemed it would be. The 20 mins was honestly fine. W6 is also 3 separate runs, I think landing up with 25 mins. Bizarrely I am now looking forward to that after W5.

vikinglights · 30/05/2015 20:43

I tried the NHS C25K+ stepping stone podcast tonight after finishing C25K last week...... my goodness that pushed me well up from my usual elderly snail pace, I only managed 25 muinutes running but still got a fair but further than I have been getting in 30 minutes....

I am however the colour of a beetroot and could barely talk when I got home after my cool down walk....

pleased I did it though

babybouncer · 30/05/2015 21:13

Can I join in? I've just done my first run from week 4 and am feeling pretty proud of myself!

I am thinking of getting some new trainers soon. I used to know someone who was very into exercise (and a PE teacher) and she was always very stern about the importance of good trainers and, because they become less supportive over time, buying a fresh pair every year if you regularly exercise a couple of times a week.

ditavonteesed · 31/05/2015 08:58

I am sat here drinkinga coffee and trying to convince myself that i should go out running. I need to go in a minute as the dc want to go swimming this morning. it will be day 1 of week 8 so a lovely little 28min run. Shock

Wiifitmama · 31/05/2015 08:59

I am also sitting drinking coffee procrastinating about my run Blush

Actually it's rainy here so I have decided to go later in the afternoon. I WILL do it! W4R1

Iggi999 · 31/05/2015 09:15

Starting week 9 today. Seems unlikely but I will give it a go! Have got a Fitbit now so will be interesting to see how it compares to using map my run. I think I'll need to continue to use both as I enjoy seeing the routes

AppleSnapple · 31/05/2015 09:28

Dita and wiifit you've just made me feel better... For the first time ever I've just skipped it Shock I will go out later today as I don't want to be off schedule but I just couldn't summon up the enthusiasm this morning!!!

ditavonteesed · 31/05/2015 10:09

sorry apple but I went Wink is lovely and drizzly here so didnt get too hot. 28 mins was no different to 25mins, I ended up running on the spot for the last minute as I had planned my route a bit wrong and ran out of space before I ran out of time. I am currently only going twice a week, I seem to be able to manage twice a week easily but 3 times makes me grumpy, so long term I think twice is the answer for me.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 31/05/2015 10:11

Come on Dita you are level with me. Go for it you will feel so good if you do. I did wk8r1 last night. Covered 4.4k in the 28 mins. Bloody ache today but so glad I went.

Keep with it everyone! Smile

ditavonteesed · 31/05/2015 10:12

I did 4.55k according to me fit bit, I have downloaded mapmyrun but I cant work out how to do it.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 31/05/2015 10:21

That's a great speed Dita, fantastic. I use Strava so sorry can't help with your running app. Only problem is I can't seem to run C25k NHS Laura app and Strava alongside each other so ran without her encouragement last night. Went ok though. It was all flat though Wink

ditavonteesed · 31/05/2015 10:43

I dont have headpphones in as take the dogs with me, so just have her shouting from my bag which amuses me.

AppleSnapple · 31/05/2015 11:26

Stunts try mapmyrun, it works ok with the c25k app. I have been suitably shamed, I WILL go out this afternoon I promise!

Iggi999 · 31/05/2015 12:37

Did wk9 run 1 this morning. Sticking my fingers in my ears during posts about speed - I need around 10 mins to run 1k, so won't be doing 5k I'm 30 mins anytime soon!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2015 12:46

Hi all, I did W6R1 this morning. I thought I'd get a few weeks under my belt before I joined the thread in case I bottled it and gave up. But so far so good, I find I look forward to the runs; and never thought I'd ever say that!

My app seems to be different from everybody elses; w6r1 today was 10m run, 5m walk, 10m run. Everybody seems to be up to 20 mins by now. My first 20 min run isn't until W7R1.

Wiifitmama · 31/05/2015 15:32

I did go in the end! The 6 minute run was not exactly a piece of cake but I am glad I did it. Drizzly and yuck outside but better than a hot day. Not looking forward to summer runs Shock

Wiifitmama · 31/05/2015 15:35

Thickandthin - my app is same as yours. It's called Ease into 5k.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2015 16:01

Thanks Wiifit, everyone else seemed to be on a different timescale, it felt strange. I saw your post saying you're on W4-that has been my hardest week, I repeated it twice. I've found it easier since then.

lbnblbnb · 31/05/2015 16:30

week 2 Run 1 today - in very drizzly weather, my running shoes were squelching by the end. Back to work tomorrow (I am a teacher), so got to keep it going.

AppleSnapple · 31/05/2015 20:11

Well, the guilt got the better of me and I went out in the end, for w7r1. As usual found the 1st 10 mins really hard and then it was fine. If someone could maybe just pull me along on roller skates for the first 10 mins I think I would be grand...!!!!

Anyway only one minor stop on the run when my phone inexplicably flew out of my left pocket and hit me on my right ear- I was looking behind me to see who was throwing things, I got such a fright- I must've looked like a right eejit!

Anyway, glad to have week 7 started. Managed 4.5k exactly in 35 mins. 5k in a reasonable time still seems quite far out of reach... For now!

AppleSnapple · 31/05/2015 20:11

Oh and I meant to say good luck to all for the week ahead.
