So, we seem to have filled up the 4th thread. Anyone want to join me here?

OP posts:
thewavesofthesea · 16/03/2016 09:11

So I entered a 10k yesterday......in July. Thought it would be reasonably achievable. I hope....

W7R2 today for me. Running and exercise is keeping me sane (ish) at the moment.

thewavesofthesea · 16/03/2016 09:13

And welcome runningbug! It feels good to get past that first 20min run. You can do it!

runningbug123 · 16/03/2016 09:28

My massive issue is needing the toilet every 5/10 mins. I do drink a lot so I have cut down my intake and have started going out earlier so I'm not drinking as much before hand.

It's a nightmare and I'm struggling to find events with toilets during the route.

Any advice from anyone with the same issue?

cherrytree63 · 16/03/2016 09:44

Late to the thread...I've been doing c25k with a local running club that runs beginner courses. Started mid January, struggling to run for a minute.
I can now, very slowly Blush run 5k in 37 ish minutes.
Got my 1st Park Run this Saturday Shock!

thewavesofthesea · 16/03/2016 10:59

Enjoy the first Park Run cherrytree ! I did my first last week, in about 37 mins.

Did w7r2. Felt fine at the end so carried on until I had done 5k, took about 40 mins. So I think I may leave Laura behind next time. Can't quite believe that I can do this now!

runningbug123 · 16/03/2016 11:06

Dreaded run of doom completed and no toilet trips! Result

I timed my minute miles and it's 14mins40 so that's something to improve.

The next few podcasts seem to be taking a step backwards so tomorrow I'm either going to repeat the 20min jog or move onto 25mins as I really to get the distance under my belt now as the 20mins took me 1.5miles so only about half way plus I'm on a treadmill not road. Argh, well a achievement non the less

cherrytree63 · 16/03/2016 15:34

running I have bladder problems too! Mainly in the mornings, I seem to need to wee several times up until about midday, then I'm fine.

Stellar67 · 16/03/2016 16:47

Good to hear everyone is going well. My knee is not getting better. Luckily I have an expert friend who is meeting me tomorrow at the gym to look at what we can do.

Sisterelephant · 16/03/2016 21:28

Just found this, can I join?

I've just completed w5r2 and will do the dreaded r3 in a couple days!

I've signed up to run 5k in a few months, something I've always wanted to do, I'm looking forward to it and enjoying running. I run around my local park, it was daunting at first but there's lots of other runners so I don't feel like a loser!

I've been getting sore knees my last few runs, not unbearable but feel like it could lead to real pain, any ideas how to prevent it? I'm running off baby fat and have about 2
Stone to lose.

KeepOnPlodding · 16/03/2016 21:40

W8R3 completed this evening although I've done it over about 10 days rather than a week. Felt ok, can't quite believe that I'm moving onto the final week and potentially 'Life Without Laura'.

Cherry I'm also planning to do my first ParkRun on Saturday. I actually registered 12months ago (2015 New Year's Resolution that didn't quite happen Blush) and I am a bit nervous. I'm fairly certain that I will be at the very back but hoping that it's as supportive and friendly as everyone says.

Stellar67 · 16/03/2016 21:50

Sister I have had knee trouble. Don't try and run through it. Because that's left me out for a week. I have done yoga and getting quad and knee exercises tomorrow from sports therapy friend.
Also RICE helped me the first few days.

Boozena · 17/03/2016 09:54

W4r1 done this morning, was a little anxious but so proud that I've done it. The 5 min runs felt like about an hour lol.
When I get paid at the end of the month I'm going to hit SportsDirect for some proper kit- don't quite feel the part in my bleachy joggers and husbands jumper. Are running leggings the best option? I'd prefer to stick to joggers if I can hides the wobbles
I saw some nice looking running jackets in Aldi too if anyone's been looking!

peasareevilcreatures · 17/03/2016 10:04

I haven't been on for a while as hadn't been feeling great and definitely lost the momentum after my 20 minute run.

I still need to start week 6 properly but yesterday I went to the gym and ran for a mile non-stop on the treadmill, took me 12 minutes to do it though. Gave me a bit of confidence to get back on the program soon. A third of the way to 5K.

Kilmeny · 17/03/2016 14:48

I thought my feet were knackered but I've got some spongy gel insoles for my trainers now and it feels so so much better. Did week 7 day two today and feel amazing now. I really couldn't run upstairs without wheezing in January.

runningbug123 · 17/03/2016 16:54

I've had a break through today and actually jogged 32mins non stop. Yesterday I was dreading 20 so I am super proud although just as the app says run for 30 I've not hit 5k. I'm actually just under a mile short so time to step it up.

Re: joggers/leggings to poster below try them all on. I was adamant I didn't want leggings as I have massive thighs but the joggers all seemed far to low rise and hated the seamlines in the crotch area so I ended up buying leggings. I feel a utter tit mind you but a long tshirt helps. I opted for some USA pro ones and there quite high wasted too so I'm not tugging them up every 2 seconds.

Kilmeny · 17/03/2016 17:57

I got the karrimor ones from
Sports direct, about £15. Really comfy.

Boozena · 17/03/2016 19:42

I'll try them on, thanks for the tips. I think a long t shirt would definitely be the way to go if I went the legging route.
After my running success today I've just scoffed pizza hut and a chocolate éclair Blush if only I could get my eating under control I might actually see a difference to my body!

cherrytree63 · 18/03/2016 00:33

I'm always starving after running! Hmm.

Rinceoir · 18/03/2016 10:10

W4r1 done. 4km including my walks/warm up and cool down. Found the second 5 minute run really hard, I live on a hill so end up running uphill at the end no matter what route I take.

KeepOnPlodding · 18/03/2016 12:21

Well done Rinceoir I deliberately turn right at the end of the road so that I do the uphill slope first and the downward slope on the second half. It's barely a slope not a hill but I'm not brave enough yet to do it the other way round!

Anyone else feel compelled to 'jog' the last couple of minutes home past the neighbours' houses just so that if you're spotted it's running not walking? Blush

JellyJ · 18/03/2016 13:53

W5r3. On Wednesday I found 8 minutes hard and today I've actually managed 20 minutes (albeit level and down hill). I can't quite believe it. This programme really does seem to be working!

Well done to all of you on your achievements this week. I think of you all while I'm running and it keeps me going :-)

Cherry, I don't feel starving after running but I usually feel I've earned a nice big piece of cake, which perhaps rather undoes all the good work!

PhilMckrakin · 18/03/2016 16:24

I did it I completed week 9 yesterday and I can't quite believe i've done it. Half considering a park run tomorrow but a bit scared. Well done everyone who is running it gives you such a sense of achievement.

I have found that even if i've had a rubbish run, find it really hard or can't do it at all, the next time I go it seems much easier so the programme must be improving my fitness levels even if I don't realise it. What i'm trying to say badly is even if you feel rubbish after a run don't give up. Smile

Kilmeny · 18/03/2016 18:00

Well done Phil, you must feel amazing!

KeepOnPlodding · 18/03/2016 22:09

Well done Phil - that's fantastic! Grin

Are you planning to keep running?

Stellar67 · 18/03/2016 22:30

It'd be a good idea to start a new thread....
