Hi all, I've just realised I maxed out our thread by posting the 1000th post earlier so I thought I should start a new one!

Hoping you all find me here...

Hello all. Chemo done which was fine but my HB levels were very low so I had 2 units of blood yesterday. I did a Barry's bootcamp this morning and I basically ran off the treadmill - I did 12.5mph sprints in both the "treading" sections of the workout, which is the max speed of the machine. I felt like I had been part of the doping scandal - everyone should get a couple of units of blood to get PBs in the Max out times!

Speaking of which, I am getting confused - is there more than one work out with "30" in the title or are you all talking about the Insanity Max 30 workout I keep saying I'm going to buy but then never do?

Barry again tomorrow - 6am ugh! Which will be 3rd this week. What with P90X on Monday, that means I am 4 out of 5 days worked out this week before the weekend, which is good considering weekly chemo has started to take its toll a little bit. Am hoping I still workout over the weekend even though I will officially be on holiday at the beach (I know it seems like I am endlessly on holiday atm)....

What does NSV stand for?

Does anyone live in London btw?

Boobz · 20/08/2015 23:32

Oooh that website is fun Edmund! I have just read one of her Insanity reviews and it's quite funny and very true

Eg one for Insaity Pure Cardio

EdmondDantes · 20/08/2015 23:55

Boobz- Glad you like it. It appeals to my childish thinking.

I am seriously impressed by your dedication. Hope chemo is going well.

No idea what NSV means.

Why ask about London?

Purpleraindeer · 21/08/2015 07:16

I love that website ed. it was her reviews that made me get max30 in the first place. I did t25 first as I started from a 0 fitness base as is basically not exercised in 3yrs of pregnancy/breast feeding. I was also 9wks post c section so was a bit worried my tummy would split open again! Even now I find that if I have a heavy abs work out my section scar gets sore. I guess that will never change

Boobz - you are like princess Beatrice with your hols! Sorry the chemo is draining you. You seem to be ignoring that and working out anyway tho - that's mental toughness. Ha ha re your blood doping. I'm not London based but I work there. I really want to do a Barry's class to give it a try but I have limited opportunity to go out after work as I need to get back for the kids, so when I do get the chance I've been prioritising going out for drinks with friends. Grin

Rest day today. Hooray.

Purpleraindeer · 21/08/2015 07:17

Oh and I read the thing about calorie
Deficits with interest. Did I read it right that one option was a 1000cal per day deficit???? How the hell do you do that???Shock

Sarahlouboo · 21/08/2015 07:45

Exactly Purple, how?!

NSV stands for non-scale victory such as running up a hill that you couldn't before! I learnt that on here!

How much more chemo do you have to have Boobz? Lol re the blood doping!

EdmondDantes · 21/08/2015 09:47

Boobz - I googled Barry's as I wanted to know more about what everyone was chatting about. I see there are two studios in London. Now I understand why you were asking.

spookyskeleton · 21/08/2015 10:33

An NSV can be something that shows a change in your body/fitness rather than focusing on your weight. So being able to fit in something that you couldn't before for example Smile

Have read all the T25 reviews - I wasn't that impressed tbh. I prefer reviews from less fit people as she clearly sailed through all the workouts. Maybe that is because I am a 'less fit' person Grin also it annoyed me that she had to do her make up and hair before being photographed Confused

maybe I am just being grumpy??

EleanorAbernathy · 21/08/2015 13:21

Hello everyone - 3 more Insanities to go! (and the fit test!) Would it be wrong to get a pizza to celebrate when I finish? Grin

I've ended up a day behind as my shifts on Monday and Tuesday meant I couldn'y fit it in - so I switched Sunday and Monday round and had Monday as my day off instead.
Then I went for a run on Tuesday - Insanity has actually made me faster! I'm normally a really slow 10:30 minute mile runner (my excuse is it's quite hillly here) and on Tuesday, my first outdoor run in a few weeks, I averaged 09:24 m/m!

Whoever asked about the heart rate tracker - I use a Fitbit Surge which is great for running, you can also get the Charge HR which also monitors heart rate but doesn't have GPS. It's a bit iffy on Insanity type workouts though -always seems to read a bit low. I don't think it likes all the jumping around -so I've got a Polar chest strap too which is more accurate - I just love looking at the graphs afterwards. :)

I love that Dumbbells and Diapers blog, I've been reading it before each new workout to give me an idea of what I'm in for! I wouldn't let anyone near me with a camera when I'm working out though - when I've glanced it the mirror my face is always bright red and slightly twisted in agony.

I wish my body coach plan would hurry up (they've said I'lll get it by the 28th at the latest - that's AGES away. I've joined a couple of the Facebook groups and people keep posting all their delicious looking food and I want some too!

Sarahlouboo · 22/08/2015 07:47

Eleanor - I want your body coach plan to hurry up and arrive too Wink! I am really interested to see how you get on. And I think one pizza after completing Insanity is allowed...I really struggle to find treats or rewards for myself that don't involve food! I have also improved running time since doing beach body workouts. Very satisfying.

Boobz - I think we are all talking about insanity max 30. I would be interested to hear what you think of it if you ever do it.

For the first time ever last night I stopped a workout at 17 minutes! My heart just wasn't in it and kept getting interrupted and I was hot, bothered and pissed off! It was the Friday fight one. I read up on im30 afterwards and some people were saying it is shorter but harder than insanity. Purple- you have done both, how do you think they compare? Anyway I have had a word with myself now, I going to keep doing it but use a modifier and keep going if I have to. I wouldn't have thought twice about modifying when I first started out but I have never really had to modify on cardio before so stupid pride was getting in the way. Back to it today!

yumyumpoppycat · 22/08/2015 12:47

Purple ...my exercise dvd buying is a sickness ;)

Sarah I can totally believe IM30 is harder not that I have actually tried Insanity it is very intense day in day out 5 or 6 x a week . I have a free untried copy of turbo fire Blush and I think they say in the booklet the High Intensity workouts should only be completed c 3 x a week with the lower intensity workouts intermixed....there are actually quite a few rules listed I might look into it a bit more.

Kettlebells done yesterday and prob again today or slim in 6. Spooky Grin it is a bit retro ;)

Eleanor thanks re watch advice, does the polar strap help with insanity style workouts? I am leaning towards Polar brand but they are not so good for all day tracking Confused

My NSV Dp thinks I seem less wide (whispers) have actually gained weight though :}

EleanorAbernathy · 22/08/2015 19:23

Let's see if this works, I just did Max Interval Plyo with the Fitbit AND the Polar, and screenshotted the graphs from both!

I think the Polar is a lot more accurate on this sort of workout, for example the Fitbit said my heartrate was 124bpm during power jumps which was clearly lying Hmm

The bit where the Polar stops all together is right after the warm up, don't worry I didn't ACTUALLY die, just ran off to get a fan before the stretches and lost the bluetooth signal!

The two monitors pretty much match each other is I'm running, or resting, I just don't think the Fitbit likes all the jumping around and waving arms about.

Beachbody THREAD 2 (Insanity, T25, etc)
EleanorAbernathy · 22/08/2015 19:25

Forgot to point out, the first pic is the Fitbit, the second is the Polar. Big difference in calorie burn between the two - 300 on the Fitbit, 467 on the Polar - that's more than half a Kitkat Chunky! Grin

Purpleraindeer · 22/08/2015 19:49

God Eleanor - that bpm says it all! I'd take the calorie burn that allows you to have the extra half of kit Kat chunky!

Sarah - Friday fight is hard. If it's any consolation I maxed at c17mins for 3wks running so it's a hard bit - isn't that the evil burpee lunges? I personally think it gets easier after that so its worth trying to push through but it feels really disheartening when you just can't go on. I've only done 3 insanity work outs but I do think the Friday fights are much more intense than insanity. The benefit is it is over more quickly tho!

I did Friday fight 2 tonight. Haven't done it for ages and had forgotten what it was like. I maxed at 6mins!! Felt a bit crap about that until I saw that all the crew had too. They totally kicked my @rse today tho - I just could not keep up and was broken by the end! Ed - you asked me which move I hate - it's one armed burpees. They're evil.

Poppy - I love your dh's compliment. That's exactly the sort of compliment I get from my DH. Once he told me my hair looked lovely and flat. I think he meant smooth?! Mine told me that I look a bit too muscly today. Blush

yumyumpoppycat · 23/08/2015 00:44

Ah ok if they match each other during the non jumpy bits that is probably a good sign that the Polar is accurate. Also we are talking Insanity here - that must burn more than 300 cals!

Jacksterbear · 23/08/2015 17:05

Hellooooo lovelies. I'm back from hols. Did 9x workouts in 2 weeks, plus canoeing, hiking, and swimming. All good. But also lived almost exclusively on cheese, baguette, wine, crisps and chocolate = not so good.

Have just caught up with the thread and will be back later to properly join in the conversation - just a quick check-in for now!

Purpleraindeer · 23/08/2015 19:54

Hi jackster. Sounds like a great hol!

I felt pretty good today as I thought I was pretty close to my goal of doing Friday fight 1 and tabata strength all the way through. I then checked back on the thread. Sadly, the goal I put down was to do the whole of Friday fight 2 and all the press ups in max out strength! I think I may still be some way off that..... Shock

Hope everyone has had a good weekend

Sarahlouboo · 24/08/2015 06:47

Poppy - less wide! I'd take that as a compliment Grin. My DH once told me on a night out "whatever you have come as, I like it!". Bless.

Purple - yes it was indeed the evil burpee lunges the that did it for me! Thank you, if you find it hard then that makes me feel a bit better.

Jackster - glad you had a good holiday and that's fab on the exercise front. Hope I can exercise at least my usual 5 times in the week we are away. We are going to Greece and it still looks mega hot but if all else fails I will do lengths of the pool. I would quite like to get on the treadmill too and do some Tabata training - if any of anyonr knows a good but simple routine that I can remember then let me know?

So after my fail on Friday, I did t25 speed 2.0 on Saturday and I really went for it and nailed it Grin. Friday made me really question why I am exercising - I love it and I want to keep challenging myself but I came to the conclusion that I don't want to be making myself feel sick and stressed out so I am going to keep doing IM30 a couple of times a week but mix it in with other workouts . Hopefully that way I can build up. Hope you all have a good week.

onlywhenyouleave · 25/08/2015 14:16

I am a very regular poster on here but have name-changed due to all the security issues going on - don't want to say who I was but I am hoping you can all work it out Smile

jackster glad you had a good holiday. I am so impressed that you worked out on holiday - I literally sit on my arse for the duration of my holiday eating and drinking Blush

Sarah if you check out the body coach on YouTube or his FB page, he posts very simple HIIT workout videos (literally 4 exercises that you do in rotation for a set period of time with a set rest in between) so you can maybe write these down in a pad. I have also seen some FB posts by someone called Emily Skye which are of a similar nature to the Body Coach.

Right, am looking at targets going forward - my aim is to be a size 12 at Christmas which I think is doable based on my progress over the last couple of months. I think I have finally found a way of eating and exercise that works and which is sustainable. Have dropped from pushing a size 18 to getting into size 16's very comfortably so not the fastest so, thinking about it, maybe a size 12 by Christmas is unrealistic??

Boobz · 25/08/2015 21:39

Can you give me an idea of how many kg that is to go from a 16 to a 12 size? If 2 stone or less, then I would say yes, as long as your are strict with diet.

#1 (Mon 3rd Aug) 59.5kg
#2 (Mon 10 Aug) 58.2kg (1.3kg down week on week)
#3 (Mon 17 Aug) 57.5kg (0.7kg down week on week, and 2kg down in total)
#4 (Mon 24 Aug) 56.5kg (1kg down week on week, and 3kg down from total)

YumYum and Purple - can I convince you to do a Barry's w/c 31 Aug in the Euston branch with me?!

onlywhenyouleave · 25/08/2015 22:15

Mmmm difficult to say as I have no scales and refuse to weigh myself anywhere but as a rough estimate, I would say maybe 3 stone would get me to a comfortable size 12. So, 42 pounds over approx 15 weeks - yep unachievable Wink

I need to rethink my target...

EleanorAbernathy · 25/08/2015 22:33

I've finished Insanity! I don't actually think I look much different, although the diet has gone to pot the last couple of weeks! I DO feel generally firmer and stronger and fitter though, and weigh less than when I started - so I'll take that!

And - my Body Coach plan has arrived, the food looks amazing! I've decided I'm going to start it next Wednesday when I'm next off work so I have plenty of time to menu plan etc. I've already cleared out the fridge to make room (Mumsnet was down ;) ), freezer and food cupboard tomorrow! Grin I'll be doing it alongside Max:30.

I'm just going to try to stay generally healthy until then.

Purpleraindeer · 26/08/2015 07:30

Only - I read your post and thought 'no problem' re that loss as somehow I had forgotten that it is now August! Wouldn't 1.5lb per week be a realistic target? Also if you're exercising too you'll tone up and havr more mass in less volume so you might find that you drop dress sizes faster than you think.

Eleanor- fantastic, well done! I bet you feel proud. So many people start insanity and don't finish (there's definitely no way I could do it!). Grin

Boobz - I'd love to do a Barry's but my DH is slammed at work so I need to be home in the evenings. I will in the future tho - I'm totally intrigued!

And - achievement from me - I got thru the whole of Friday fight 1 last night! Admittedly I was a bit slower than them on some of the moves in the last 5mins but I dug deep and kept going so I'm really pleased. There is no way I could have worked harder. I needed a 5min lie down at the end Shock

onlywhenyouleave · 26/08/2015 07:42

purple yes, 1.5lbs a week probably is realistic which would get me to a size 14 - if I wasn't tall, it would not take me 1.5 stone to move between sizes Confused

eleanor huge congrats on finishing Insanity! Are you doing the body coach exercise or just the food part with your own exercise?

Jacksterbear · 26/08/2015 09:22

only, it sounds like size 14 is a realistic goal - and would still be pretty great progress.

Eleanor wow, well done, what an awesome achievement. Flowers

And purple well done too. "there is no way I could have worked harder" - you can't ask for more than that! I have to say I can rarely say that about my workouts. Blush

Sarah, totally get what you mean re questioning exercising, and I think it's a very wise conclusion that you need to mix it up so it's not all horrific and miserable! I get it into my head sometimes that if it's not truly unpleasant, it's not worth it - but forget that the main reason I got into exercise to start with was for mental health benefits, not the physical ones. So the enjoyment factor is important too!

On which note, I am having a hip hop abs week - not particularly difficult but kind of silly and fun!

Boobz well done on the progress. What time are the Barry's workouts? If there are ones in the middle of the day (term time) I could make it. But from what you've previously said I think you go v early morning which wouldn't work for me.
