Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

Hi Cinnamon yes gites always fully booked for this week (although they've been pretty well booked since Easter) and for once the weather forecast looks good Smile it is often pants the half term week.
Off on my mini holiday now.

familygermsareok · 24/05/2015 08:15

Thanks Anglaise Smile

holmes yes, pacing is key for longer distances. I have a terrible tendency to start out way too fast on races and I have ended up really struggling and walking in hms before. I try and be very disciplined about my pace now and force myself to set off slowly and comfortably and it makes such a difference. You can always pick it up in the last few miles if you feel you have plenty left. I run at a pace that I can reasonably comfortably talk at for a hm and often chat with fellow racers running at a similar pace which is a great way to make the miles go by. And there is nothing wrong with walking up the hillier bits to conserve energy. Lots of people do.
I love the sound of your hm by the way. I much prefer scenic interesting races rather than busy flat road ones Smile

familygermsareok · 24/05/2015 08:17

Enjoy your break Anglaise. Hope you get your coastal running in Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2015 09:14

Enjoy your break Anglaise1!

I have pretty much one pace holmessweetholmes! Which makes my hm distance quite respectable and my 5k not so much! I think I'm just rubbish at pushing myself to the point where I'm too uncomfortable so I'm not suited to 5k really. There is a calculator online that gives you a time for other races based on one you know that you should be able to google.

emummy · 24/05/2015 11:54

Lovely slow easy run this morning in sunshine, ran past pipe band competition in the park, great fun! Loving tapering, feels like the pressure is off. Really looking forward to hm - by this time next week it will be done!

8.7 miles to add from yesterday (parkrun) and today (9k). Day 24 of Every Day in May. Done. My hip seems ok now. But had a sports massage and have spent lots of time stretching at the gym.

If anyone fancies sponsoring me the link is here to sponsor me.

1270.41

suzannecanthecan · 24/05/2015 17:31

11.52 from me
1281.52
my hip is quite a lot better too Halle
but my ankle feels weirdConfused
if its not one thing it's another!

familygermsareok · 24/05/2015 19:58

Woo hoo Grin Grin .
Another 10k PB Grin. Is a new local race, first time it has been held. Flat out and back mainly along a coastal cycle path although with a brief sandy section where the beach encroaches and a diversion around the edge of some football pitches. Not the most interesting and it was very windy, tailwind on the way out but headwind on the way back. Why do tailwinds never seem to help as much as head winds hinder Confused

And my friend has just texted to tell me I got a category trophy too, 1st female veteran Grin Grin. (Although it was a very small field, less than 150 runners I think. Still, I'm taking it!!)

Sorry about all the Grins but I'm feelin' good.

1281.52 + 6.2= 1287.72

familygermsareok · 24/05/2015 20:03

Halle you are doing really well, it is a huge commitment to fit 5k in every single day. And especially working through your hip problem. Only 8 more days to go, you are almost there Smile

HalleLouja · 24/05/2015 20:14

Family 7 days to go. Not that I am counting. I had to walk a lot of the sessions for a while and was this close to packing it >< but have through stubbornness stuck it out.

familygermsareok · 24/05/2015 20:37

Blush oops, sorry Halle, you definitely don't want to be doing an extra day! Grin
It is the achievements we have struggled with and found the hardest that mean the most. Knowing that you nearly stopped but made yourself carry on, well, I think that is really something to be proud of! Smile

runtothehills · 24/05/2015 20:50

Fantastic result family use as many Grins as you like, and I'll add a Star. Don't knock the first female vet, be proud you deserve it. Most of my local races only have about 15 females, but I still feel pretty awesome if I get a "top 5 females" result Wink. Are you in Fife? Can imagine some of the coastal winds can be pretty tough going running into, and totally agree about the headwind being tougher than you feel you deserve!

Excellent going Halie not long now. Suzanne sometimes you can feel you chase the pain around the body!

10 miles today, after epic PTA Spring Fare raffle stall fest yesterday was lovely to get out.

1297.72

suzannecanthecan · 24/05/2015 20:57

Suzanne sometimes you can feel you chase the pain around the body!

he he, I like to think that I am actually channeling it out of my body and into the earth, since it has progressed from left hip to left ankle

suzannecanthecan · 24/05/2015 21:04

1st out of 150 sounds pretty damn good!
If that was me Family I wouldn't be calling it a 'very small' field, I'd be calling it an enormous field :o

HalleLouja · 24/05/2015 21:08

Thanks family for the kind donation. Enjoy your post race high. You deserve it.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2015 21:19

Congratulations familygermsareok!

You're doing great HalleLouja Grin

Hoping to get out tomorrow but ds2 has gone to bed with a high temp and dh has gone up feeling sick so if I have a hideous night and dh is too ill to look after the baby I may have to skip it. After the couple of days I've had I need a run!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 11:20

4.9 lovely miles from me with my buddy and dogs Smile 1302.62

familygermsareok · 25/05/2015 14:24

Glad you managed to get out after all cinnamon. Hope your DH and DS are feeling better today.

Thanks runtothehills. It was along the Angus coastline, from Monifieth (just east of Dundee) towards Carnoustie. I think we gave the Fife winds a run for their money though!

Suzanne I would love to come 1st out of 150, but sadly that will have to remain in my dreams. That was the expected total no of runners, much less are in my category of female vets (age 40-49). Results have just been posted so I have proper figures now, I came 41st out of 122 total runners in a time of 47.15 , and first in my age category (out of 15). Before I get too carried away though, two runners in the female supervets (50+ ) came well in front of me.
I am still very very chuffed though Grin. I am a middle aged mum who couldn't run 500 metres 8 years ago!

I like the idea of channelling pains around the body and into the ground by the way, that made me Smile

Halle you're welcome Smile

4.85 gentle easy miles early this morning. Won't get chance to run till Thurs now so thought I would go while I could.

1302.62 + 4.85= 1307.47

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 19:04

Ds2 was fine, slept all night but ds1 and dh were up vomiting during the night familygermsareok! I slept 10.30-1 then 2.30-3, 3.15-3.45 and 4.30-7 so not great, combination of vomiting and feeding. Ds1 woke up at 7 and asked for toast and dh started to feel better around 1 but was happy to have the baby on his own while I ran despite feeling pants. Was pretty warm here by 9am but chilly now.

lastqueenofscotland · 25/05/2015 19:42

Oh cinnamon that sounds grim! Hope all better soon

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/05/2015 19:49

Hello all. I've been away since Christmas thanks to glitchy knee. Nice to be back. I'll add 9km / 5.6m

1307.47 + 5.6 = 1313.07

familygermsareok · 25/05/2015 20:29

Oh cinnamon, that sounds miserable Sad. You must have really needed a run after that night. I hope that's the end of it now!

Hi SqueezyCheeseWeasel, I hope your knee is all better now Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 25/05/2015 20:49

Let's hope so for the sickness, guessing feeding will carry on for sometime to come! Ds1 went through the night at 12 weeks and ds2 at 7 months so hoping ds3 is more like his biggest brother Grin

Neeko · 25/05/2015 21:04

Congrats on the PB, Familygerms. Well done!

Cinnamon. That was a rough night. Kudos to you for getting out and running after that.

Well done, Halle. You are doing so well.

Holmes. Very impressed by your 16k.

3.8 from me this morning. Have a uti which made it interesting. Have drunk a lake's worth of water today but it just isn't shifting.
