725.12

Very busy week. Not had time to catch up with thread. Just popping on to add my 3.2.

Hope everyone is ok.

Anglaise1 · 13/05/2015 17:32

8.75 including lots of intervals today.
733.87

Sazorchard31 · 13/05/2015 19:19

aggressive the gobi looks tough! A old friend of mine who lives in HK has completed a couple of the racing the planet 250's. Oncredible accomplishment but I imagine they are so tough to train for and especially in your heat! I struggled running 6 miles when it was 15c here at the weekend, I think I prefer to run at about 8c.

Holmes I'd love to get to 8-10 comfortably too but only cover those distances I've been hm training. I would like to keep 6 as my comfy mileage but finding that hard at the moment, just out of practice I think! I can justify a 6 mile run to my Dh as only out the house an hrs any longer and I stArt to feel bad about leaving dh and dd at home. I'd feel better about 6 miles if I ran with a club, I'd love to join one, but like ohone I can't get home and get dd (5) to bed in time or guarantee that dh is home from work in time too.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/05/2015 19:48

10.08 from me.

Tried to run both ways but had to pull myself up a mile from home on the way back as i had the WORST stitch. I've never had anything like it, it was agony. Worse than when i broke my ribs a few years ago. Literally hurt to move even breathe in. It passed eventually as i hobbled home, but hurt so much it made me feel lightheaded and nauseous. Anyone ever had anything like that before i've literally never known anything like it.

Sazorchard31 · 13/05/2015 20:26

Are you ok now lastqueen?

2.5 from me...reading this thread motivates me so following a chocolate bar whilst I read I put my trainers on and burnt that chocolate off!

733.87 + 10.08 + 2.5 = 746.45 I think! Did it in my head!!

orangeflutie · 13/05/2015 21:00

Busy day for me today but managed to fit in a super early run. I went out at 5.45am which is very unusual for me! Pleased I went though as I fitted in 4 miles before breakfast and wouldn't have got the chance to get out later today.

Will now go and read rest of thread.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/05/2015 21:29

sazor I'm feeling better now i could still "feel" it if that makes sense till about half an hour ago.

Going to have an "easy" day and just run home tomorrow.

No idea what bought it on, had had no breakfast, and just some left over pasta with veggies at lunch so not like id been gorging and picking all day. Just frustrating as it was such a good run up to that point!!

Loueytb3 · 13/05/2015 22:21

5.1 from me today, it was a nice run in to work (part way - I get off the tube a few stops early). My back gave up on Monday and I was really worried that the run that morning had set it off. I struggled through pilates yesterday but today's run seems to have cleared it (for the moment). Physio tomorrow though as its an ongoing problem. My worst fear is that he tells me to ease off the running....

lastqueen I've had a stitch like that a couple of times, it really scared me. The only thing I could put it down to was too much to drink and running down hill seemed to make it worse. I had to walk as I was in so much pain and that had never happened before. It hurt for quite a while afterwards.

holmes I hope you find the running club good. I would really like to join one, not least because I live literally 5 mins walk away from one and they train down my road some nights. But the session times are too early as they are at DCs bedtime and DH is never guaranteed to be home sadly. The weekend runs are all in the morning and we have various activities for the DCs. I can't do parkrun for the same reason. I hope in a few years when they are older I will be able to join a club or at least co-opt some of the DCs to do parkrun with me.

aggressive I used to live in HK! (During my teenage years). Marathon de Sables is probably a walk in the park after training in that heat/humidity. There is a reason I only used to do short distance running while I was at school!

Those of you who are ultra runners - one of my friends (actually an ex) is aiming to do Comrades next year. It looks mad!

Someone asked me about purple patch? They are a running club which doesn't have weekly training sessions but they have events (I've been to one of them) and you get discounted entry to races. They apparently have a forum for members which gives training advice.

755.55 including the 4 from orangeflutie

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 08:12

Aww - shame you can't do Parkrun, Louey - still, one day maybe. The running club is only 5 mins away, which is good. It seems from their website that they do lots of off - road runs out in the fells. That's partly why I'm a bit nervous about whether I'd cope - lots of the runners round here seem quite hardcore because of the terrain you have to deal with if you are more than a 'pootling through the village' type runner. They seem to do lots of social stuff too, including occasional camp-outs and trips.

stilllearnin · 14/05/2015 10:29

A free jogging club meet in my local park so I might try that. Noticed they meet at the same time as military fitness people which looks a bit cliquey. Your local sounds lovely Holmes - I bet they do all levels as everybody has to start somewhere. Think how fit you'll be!

Anyway 5 from me today. Really did not want to do it but found a new circuit in the woods and I'm now glad I went. Thought I was pooling but shaved a good few mins off my last 5 mile trip.

760.55

stilllearnin · 14/05/2015 10:30

I meant pootling - pooling is probably not advisable

HalleLouja · 14/05/2015 10:49

For those of you considering joining a running club. I would go to a session and see what they are like. Lots of people don't come to the training sessions but are still part of the club. We do XC together and other races. I am really glad I joined mine.

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 11:49

A paltry 2.4 miles from me today, making 762.95. A slow jog through the village to a nice straight, flat path where I did some sprint intervals and a slow jog back.

I've had a reply from the man at the running club - he says there are some slower runners and anyway the faster ones loop back so that everyone re- groups and nobody gets left behind. Going to try a run with them next Wednesday!

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 11:52

stilllearnin - your jogging group sounds nice too. The military fitness... maybe not so much!

PoppyShakespeare · 14/05/2015 11:59

that sounds great Holmes, I think you will absolutely love it, miss mine a lot (although did a social run with them last week I can't face explaining about the overactive thyroid on training nights, it doesn't sound like something that should disrupt running as much as it does!)

2 this morning so 762.95 + 2 =764.95

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 12:08

Great - am looking forward to it but a bit nervous!
I'm really pleased at how well my HM training is going! Kind of surprised I haven't had any setbacks, since I had injury issues last time I tried to build up to that distance, plus I was a bit less fit when I started this time. I think maybe it's because I'm doing fewer runs per week (3 this time around, compared with 4 or 5 last time I tried), which is maybe allowing me to cope with the increasing mileage of my longer run. Does that make sense, oh wise ones?

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 12:10

Eek Poppy - is the overactive thyroid a real problem for running then? I know more about underactive as I thought briefly that I might have it (doctor Google strikes again Blush).

familygermsareok · 14/05/2015 12:23

8.5 this morning. Ran to the shop for the paper and picked up some rolls as well. I quite often run for the paper (and maybe a creme egg Wink ) but have never tried rolls before. I did think they might be breadcrumbs now, but they have survived very well.

Louey thanks for info re purple patch. It is an interesting concept. I like the look of the weekend running camp.

Good luck with the running club holmes, sounds promising Smile

764.95 + 8.5 = 773.45

PoppyShakespeare · 14/05/2015 12:27

even paula Radcliffe herself struggled to run when she had it, and hers wasn't bad enough to need treatment!

I'm finding it so demoralising I am tempted to stop altogether but haven't been helping myself much by reducing meds too soon etc (scared of it going underactive) Confused

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 12:34

Thanks That must be really tough. Impressive that you haven't just given up! Is it a case of waiting until your meds are at the right level to stabilise it, then regular checks to see if they need tweaking?

PoppyShakespeare · 14/05/2015 12:38

it's a case of getting it stable and then removing or destroying (radioactive iodine) some (or all) of it which sounded horribly drastic but is starting to feel like a good idea! Then just take thyroxine if it goes underactive but that's the bit I'm scared of, it sounds horrible

holmessweetholmes · 14/05/2015 13:01

Ok so there is light at the end of the tunnel then? But a risk of it getting worse before it gets better?

Has anyone seen that 'new way to lace up your trainers ' thing which is all over FB atm? I just tried it and it's ace!

PoppyShakespeare · 14/05/2015 13:10

yeah there's light it's just all incredibly long and vague and uncertain and annoying

grumpy!

suzannecanthecan · 14/05/2015 14:39

773.45+

heavier rain than anticipated + a jacket which was not as waterproof as expected

very cold Suzanne who was going to carry on and do the planned 12 miles but decided to play safe and not risk the stress of getting much colder than I can handle.

I had to lay in a very hot bath for a good half hour before I felt out of dangerBlush

suzannecanthecan · 14/05/2015 14:47

I hope your thyroid is stable soon Poppy, in many ways not knowing is the most stressful thing because you cant make a plan of action or have a definite point in time to aim for
