Would anyone like to join me in training for a half marathon?

It was a thread on this board that basically got me through the C25K programme a couple of years ago. Lots of lovely supportive women pushing each other on.

Now, I've just started training for a half marathon that's at the end of May. I was a fairly confident runner before Christmas as I was doing 12k on my long run, even though I wasn't training with the HM in mind, but then took three weeks out over Christmas and seemed to lose all my fitness and go back to square one almost overnight Angry. Still not back at the level I was before then but at least I'm feeling enthusiastic again, running 4 times a week (8.5k the longest run so far, though) and I need a goal so I've started a 12-week HM programme and today is the end of my first week.

Is anyone doing anything similar who might like to form a virtual support group and get a bit obsessed together?

I was thinking about you last night as I was running through said country park looking the plums and berries and wondering when you were coming Grin. You should have popped in for a cuppa Smile.

Have a lovely holiday, looking forward to your Portrush run report. And glad the GNR accommodation is sorted.

5 weeks to go till mine - eek!

I managed to run 17km yesterday , 10.5 miles. For the first time I noticed pins and needles in my hand near the end of the run. A quick Google seems to suggest that this is a result of my body diverting blood supply to the legs, and away from les important extremities.

Hello hello!

Sorry, this thread fell off my radar as I got a BFP and then the first trimester punched me square in the lungs! I decided to take the pressure off myself and stop training for my HM.

I'm able to do a 10k race tomorrow that I wasn't expecting, so I think I might see how I feel after it and if I am able to get a few longer runs under my belt in the next couple of weeks I might give it a go after all.

I hope you're all well!
I'll read back now Smile

emummy · 21/08/2015 19:57

Congratulations Thursday! Glad you're feeling better, good luck with the 20k. Hope the weather is kind. I have a wee trail 5k on Sunday

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/08/2015 08:41

Well I did my 10k in 1.07 which is not too shabby I don't think - it's a very hilly course and the weather was miserable. Mostly I'm just happy I did a race while pregnant Smile

MelanieCheeks · 23/08/2015 08:59

Well done Thursday! How was the weather?

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/08/2015 09:02

Thanks Melanie
Overcast and muggy at first, turning to rain, then heavy heavy rain! The last mile is under a lot of trees so I didn't get too soaked but it was so dark!
I'll be so glad when my parkrun/running friends know I'm pregnant - I really am much slower, and I make it look really hard Grin

emummy · 23/08/2015 13:54

Well done Thursday, very impressed! I definitely couldn't have run when pregnant!

ThursdayLastWeek · 26/08/2015 13:20

Ok I've given it a few days so I'm not caught up with post-run high.
I think I'm going to try and complete my first HM Smile
I'm planning an 8.5mile later.

It's 3.5 weeks away.
By then I'll have had scan, so my running friends will know to look out for me.
I ran a 10 mile race about 10 weeks ago, and have kept up smaller distances since BFP.

Do you think I'm mad?

emummy · 26/08/2015 19:57

You might be mad! If you're well, and the scan is ok, I doubt you'll have any problems, although I think you will probably be safe to take it at an easier pace. Perhaps check with your GP/midwife/ obstetrician for advice.

MelanieCheeks · 27/08/2015 15:44

I went to an organised session last night at the Mary Peters track. It was to meet the pacers - I joined the 2 hrs 15 mins group. And we did a few laps at target pace, which seems really feasible. The big thing, for me, is that mentally instead of going "Oh I can't do this, why did I ever sign up for it, I shouldn't be here"...I'll be with 2 very experienced and capable runners who will make sure we all finish safely.

I'll be running home after work tonight, which is 9 miles.

How are you keeping, Thursday?

ThursdayLastWeek · 27/08/2015 16:38

That's sounds really helpful Melanie - makes such a difference when you feel positive going in I think.

I ran 8.5 miles last night, which was fine while I was running. Left me in minor digestive distress most of the night though, which meant a bad nights sleep and in turn sickness this morning Sad nothing a nap didn't sort out though!

So I'm going to try a get a 10/11 miler in next week, and if that doesn't cause major problems I'm in for the HM on 21st Sept Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/08/2015 18:30

Wow Thursday that's great going. Well done!

My youngest is almost 14 so the advice might have changed since I was last pg, but at the time it was that it was fine to continue with stuff that you already did, but not to start anything new; be aware that ligaments softened so it was a bit easier to get injured (at the time I did martial arts which involved lots of kicking); and not to get too out of breath. I carried on with the martial arts (and tennis) until I was about 6 months and the bump started to get in the way and my teacher was terrified I'd do myself a mischief

I have completely lost my mojo and have barely run. Lots of other RL stuff going on to occupy mind and body, but will try to do 6-8 miles tomorrow. Talking to a friend who recently ran a HM on very little training, I think I will be OK on the day (it will not be the first time) but recovery will be harder than it needs to be Smile.

emummy · 29/08/2015 19:36

Hope you manage to get out tomorrow ohone, it's not always easy. I have 2 hours planned for tomorrow, looking forward to the break! When is your hm?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/08/2015 19:53

It's on 27 September emummy, loads of time Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 30/08/2015 19:44

Did everyone get out today? I had hoped to, but I spent all day with family - the BFP is out in the open now and no one said
'Omg, when will you stop running?' Which displayed much more modern attitudes than I expected Grin

Maybe get out for a fake parkrun tomorrow, then a much longer run in the week.

MelanieCheeks · 30/08/2015 20:21

Big dog walk today, hopefully a 10 mile run tomorrow.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/08/2015 21:38

6.4 miles here, quite slow as a fair bit was on grass/country park so a bit slippery, but I made up for it when I was on proper paths and pretended it was interval training

I saw two other parkrun regulars while I was out - so nice to feel part of a running community Smile

emummy · 30/08/2015 21:50

I had a lovely 2 hour run on country roads in the sunshine, really nice - as was getting some alone time in the middle of a crazy weekend! Ds' birthday party yesterday and his actual birthday is tomorrow, plus dd2 has been taking part in her athletics club championships this weekend - 4 hours yesterday and today!
It is nice to see other runners - I met someone running on the same wee road as me today for the first time ever, felt quite excited. Nice to know there were other people out at 8am on a Sunday!
And yes ohone you do have loads of time! Mine is on 19th September, so still a good while to go.

MrsMook · 31/08/2015 08:25

Back from camping. I took some running kit and squeezed in my barefoot shoes and actually did a couple of short runs. Better than nothing, and running on a beach was a gorgeous treat!

Back into running now. Had a good long slow run yesterday. Managed to keep my pace down and consistent. I kept to an hour. Not sure how long it should have been but I wanted to keep it manageable as I've had trouble being consistent in the last month.
During September I need to build up to 2hr runs. I did it a year ago but haven't done much beyond an hour since.

DH is working today so I've done a short fartlek session before he's gone out. I'm on a double loser otherwise as my Buggy Babes class is off!

ThursdayLastWeek · 31/08/2015 08:50

Sounds like a very productive holiday Mrs!

I'm having a seriously first trimester dip in motivation - I need to remember my runners high!

thereisnofinway · 01/09/2015 12:30

I did a lovely 12 miler (never thought I'd be saying that!) at the weekend, my last long run before the GNR on 13th. I'm quite nervous of all the people at the GNR I'm not great with crowds Grin

congratulations Thursday!

ThursdayLastWeek · 02/09/2015 20:44

Thank you thereis!

I too just did a lovely(ish) 12 miles - the thing with running slower is that I feel the cold more than usual when it rains! I was out for so long the weather changed a million times!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/09/2015 13:50

I am going out later this afternoon, hoping to do about 8 Smile

emummy · 06/09/2015 20:59

Managed 8 this morning, lovely day. 2 weeks to go!
