Would anyone like to join me in training for a half marathon?

It was a thread on this board that basically got me through the C25K programme a couple of years ago. Lots of lovely supportive women pushing each other on.

Now, I've just started training for a half marathon that's at the end of May. I was a fairly confident runner before Christmas as I was doing 12k on my long run, even though I wasn't training with the HM in mind, but then took three weeks out over Christmas and seemed to lose all my fitness and go back to square one almost overnight Angry. Still not back at the level I was before then but at least I'm feeling enthusiastic again, running 4 times a week (8.5k the longest run so far, though) and I need a goal so I've started a 12-week HM programme and today is the end of my first week.

Is anyone doing anything similar who might like to form a virtual support group and get a bit obsessed together?

Oooh I hate that feeling Confused

Hello sunshine and welcome Smile

I have been a complete slacker this week - I volunteered at parkrun on Saturday, then flew off early Sunday for a work trip somewhere far too hot to run (and there wasn't really any down time anyway). Yoga tomorrow, parkrun on Saturday and a longish run on Sunday to look forward to.

Made it to the end of week 3 with an 80 minute slow run, decided to go a hilly off road route as the September hm is a bit hilly and I have my eye on a very hilly 15 mile trail night run in November. Was pouring with rain so I got very very wet. I am also a wee bit more tired as we got our rescue dog on Tuesday, so have added 2 substantial dog walks a day to my exercise routine. Surprised my legs haven't fallen off!

BlueChampagne · 24/07/2015 21:54

How's everyone doing Good? I coaxed my running mojo out for 7 miles in just under 1 hour (yeah, 2 sec under) at 6am yesterday when it was cool but sunny.

emummy · 26/07/2015 11:25

Just finished week 4 of training BlueChampagne with 8 hilly miles off road. All going fine so far although the legs were a bit heavy today. Possibly due to adding in exercising the dog to my runs - ran 5 miles of intervals yesterday then did 2 miles with her in am and 3 in the afternoon.
Have also signed up for a 5k off road at the end of August and a 15 mile night trail run in November. It has some very big scary hills in it, trying not to think about that till after September's half!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/07/2015 19:17

Hello everyone. Running mojo refound as I had hoped.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/07/2015 19:50

Sorry, posted too soon! We are on hols and as soon as I set foot on my old running route it all came flooding back. Grin

emummy · 28/07/2015 08:14

Great ohone! Hope you get some good running in and enjoy your holiday

thereisnofinway · 30/07/2015 15:40

I'm really sorry everyone I disappeared off on holiday straight after my HM so didn't get a chance to update. I loved it Grin I did it in 2.00.31 so I was really chuffed for that as my first one, but also a teeny bit gutted not to get under 2h. I really enjoyed the day, I achieved my main goal which was to run every step of the way (even the killer hill), and I've given myself a challenge to get under 2h in one of the two hms I've got left this year.

I have had 4 weeks of only doing 1 or 2 5k runs a week and am now back pounding the pavements training for the GNR. I did 8 miles last Saturday and boy did I find it hard.

emummy · 30/07/2015 17:31

Great result thereis, well done! The best part is that you loved it! I'm sure you'll get back into the way of it soon.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/08/2015 10:25

Brilliant thereis massive well done and great time Grin

I am still enjoying my holiday running. I haven't been going more than about 5 miles, as it's all off-road and I am finding it a good challenge for my legs Smile

JennyOnTheBlocks · 01/08/2015 18:40

recovered from VLM, now back in training for GER in October

anyone else doing this one?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/08/2015 18:43

Hi JennySmile there is another GERunner, but I think she is on the general running thread rather than this oneSmile

JennyOnTheBlocks · 01/08/2015 18:45

Thanks OhOne

how are you, did you ever get to Corby parkrun?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/08/2015 19:33

Really good thanks JennySmile and yes, I did get to Corby. It was a bit toich and go whether I would be able to make it so I didn't PM you. Will let you know if there is a next timeSmile

JennyOnTheBlocks · 01/08/2015 19:48

ack, it doesn't matter, just remembered you talking about it and wondered if you'd made it

smallish field, but perfectly formed Grin

MrsMook · 05/08/2015 23:11

I'm officially training for my second HM which will be in early October. I'm reusing my Women's Running plan that I found quite usable when I did my first last year.

Technically I'm in week 3. I had a bit of a go at week 1 but it was busy with the last week of term and preparing for going on camp which wiped out week 2. I didn't do any formal exercise last week, but in mitigation it was a very active week with my tracker on my watch picking up that I'd done over 100% of my recommended activity each day.

Week 5 and 6 will be affected by being on holiday- more camping, which means that sneaking off without a 2 and 4 year old could be problematic...

Anyway, I did my long run today. 60 mins easy run translated into 75 mins cross country with run/ walk intervals.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/08/2015 08:05

Morning MrsMookSmile welcome. You sound like you have a good planSmile
I did my longest run in weeks last night-7 and a half miles. Managed a pretty good pace out, but slowed coming back because it was mostly through fields in preference to being on the road, and I had to stop a few times to get my bearings.

emummy · 09/08/2015 09:39

Nice long run this morning, am up to 100minutes, 110 next weekend. Intervals yesterday was no fun, much prefer my long runs!
Welcome MrsMook, fitting in running with small children around can be tricky!

thereisnofinway · 13/08/2015 14:10

Wiggle have a sale on and it was my birthday recently so I have treated myself to some socks, a bra, a vest, some shorts and some 3/4s Grin 3 good runs this week (if you can call hill reps good!) which is just as well as I missed my long run at the weekend due to camping and forgetting to take my running shoes Blush I had such good intentions and had worked out a route and everything. I feel like I am underpreparing for the GNR though, and it?s only a month away now, so I?m really trying to work hard on my midweek runs instead of taking it a bit easy.

Is anyone else gearing up for a marathon next year?

Welcome MrsMook.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/08/2015 20:38

Hello thereis Smile I don't yet have anything booked for next year, but am seriously thinking about doing a marathon to mark my 50th year.

feetheart · 14/08/2015 11:58

I'm sneaking back on.
Bit of a day yesterday - got my number for GNR then found out that my accommodation has fallen through Shock I may be on the look out for NE MNetters with floor space :)

Training going well now as my mojo seems to have come back at a useful time. Did 9 miles last w/e when I got lost (and had to do the last 2 at a fair lick as was late to pick DS up Shock) Tired but happy as a week earlier I was struggling with any distance.

emummy · 16/08/2015 10:44

Hope you get accommodation sorted feetheart. Camping maybe?! At least the running bit is going well! When is GNR? My hm is Sept 19th, did nice long run up hills today, legs knackered but am feeling proud of myself for surviving 750 feet of climb!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/08/2015 20:03

Oh pooh feet that's a pain. I asked one of my parkrun friends (you have met her on some of our tourism trips Grin) if she was doing it again but unfortunately she didn't get in this year Sad. But glad you have your mojo back Smile

Well done on your hills emummy. You go a week before I do (and I think mine is quite flat.

Dragged myself out for 5 miles this evening. I decided not to run this morning because I wanted a bit of a lie-in, and had to be out by about 10:45 to collect DS1 from a party. Bad decision, because DH made a lovely roast lunch, I ate far too much and even 4 hours after I still struggled on my run Grin

feetheart · 17/08/2015 00:22

Thanks OhOne, looks like accommodation situation sorted thankfully.
Wondered if we would see you today as were up your way on our annual trip to pick wild plums in the country park - now have 4 boxes to deal with before going on holiday at stupid o'clock on Thursday Hmm

DS struggled a bit on Saturday as I think they went off too fast so he ended up with a stitch and his breathing was a bit all over the place. Luckily the man he was running with looked after him and they finished just under 30mins, which was the plan, though had stopped for a while and walked a few times.

Getting excited about Portrush on Saturday :o
